The Quest to Be Strong and Athletic

back is feeling better … hopefully i will be back at 100% soon

I know the game is still going but I can’t believe the cowboys are trashing the eagles two weeks in a row.

Sunday jan 10

good day today.

Started the day off with early church (i have not been in years so it was kinda weird, but it is good to be going in the right direction again)
Then i had an awesome brunch.

trained a 3 4 and 5 … All female athletes which is fun. I would much rather train females than males. i find them much easier to work with and coach. once the figure out they are not going to turn into man beasts they really get into it.

then i lifted upper rep day. I have a massage tomm and i have learned over the years I can’t do both on the same day so i lifted today

rep upper body day

120 lbs dumbell stability ball press

second set with pause

third set 100’s
X25 (shot)

heavy pull downs wide
4X12
paired with 3X12 plate raise standing

chest supported rows
3X8
took some weight off
x20

pairedX3
kneeling scare crowsX20
one arm cable tri ext
hanging knee raises

looking forward to getting some much needed massage work.

Got massage work today I am feeling great.

it was so sad the local police school was in the gym working out today. watching grown men one after another get crushed by 135 and less was so sad. To pass the pt test you have to do a press starting of the chest with 60% body weight and do 20 push ups … how sad

I remember a time when the police where big and strong

No lifting today. i have learned over the years I can not lift after a massage. Sometimes i need up to 2 days off training depending on how beat up I am.

Helped a friend with his squat tonight. he is getting ready for a meet in march. Kinda got me excited and thinking about competing again.

If I do decide compete again I am going to keep my weight under 250. One of the reasons i stopped competing is my weight was getting out of control and i felt terrible.

in this busy world when is the last time you sat down in a quiet place and cleared your mind and just be still.
It sounds easy but it is not, in fact it can be quite painful in a good way

Jim

had an awesome day at work today I am so lucky that I am doing what i love to do. not too many people can say that

training
wed jan 13th

well today i decided to shoot everything to hell. I like to throw something in comp different every so often just to shock myself and i did just that. Two weeks ago Molly decided she would try Strength Training, Bodybuilding & Online Supplement Store - T NATION

so i thought i would give it a shot

I used
275 for the bench for 21
405 for dead 21
add 25 for pull ups for 21
and curl 135 for 21

the idea was to go through as fast as possible I did it in 14 mins and just about died lol

I was a nice change up and i look forward to improving on my time. My lungs were the limiting factor

Jim

Doing what is right, can be very painful at times.
The peace of mind that eventually comes from it, truely is beyond understanding.

Then we decided to do some crazy stuff

4x12 keiser row static hold at top

paired with kneeling scarecrows3x16

2 sets of push ups with 200lbs of
Chain till failure

Trunk twist

Good

We’d Jan 20tth

After watching Molly and some of the crew the went up to mike Robertsons place. I decided to start to do alot more foam rolling and to declare war on my low back. There is a spot in my left glute that will just not let go ( from car wreck) so i decided to get a small kettle bell and sit right on that spot. It hurt like hell but I pressed on just sitting on it after 20 mins it finally released

My back felt amazing. Now the great readjustment begins the next day the other side of my back was tight. As my body adjusts to months of being a certain way . So the next couple weeks will be focusing on getting things right and balanced out some. I have been doing the warm up specific for weightlifting From asses and correct and it has helped big time.

Feeling better everyday

Friday 22nd lower

Lifting with Mollys bf

I am very impressed with how far he has come on his squat in a short period of
time. Everything is starting
to fire right. All is good

My back has been readjusting all week
so I pulled 10 singles with 315 working on form and squeezing glutes and getting everything firing right. By the 10th set
I felt pretty good

We then did

tempo pull throughts 3 down 1 hold 2 hold at top

One legged back ex

One legged leg press

Ab wheel

Monday Jan 25th

I had a massage Monday afternoon when I usually lift. I only
had 20 mins to train so this is what I did:

275 extended set bench
28reps
20 sec rest
7 reps
20 sec rest
5 reps

Kroc row knee on bench
100 dumbell 60 reps

Done

Had and awesome massage. She noticed a big difference from all the rolling

Tues Jan 26

One hour of foam rolling and warm up and strech

decided to try Texas push up challange
do one push up hop to feet
back down do 2 hop up repeat till 10 push ups

I did it in 40 seconds

Wed Jan 27th
body still adjusting
rolling and strech in am

Pm one of my buddies was fling powler sprints so I joined in we did 20 40 yard sprints
I then decided I would do some
pull ups
scare crows
tri extentions
dumbell curls
and some shoulder stuff

finally all
caught up lol
today I will be doing more rolling and streching. I will see
how I a feeling tomm …

My lifting partner on Fridays got his Olympic shoes in this week. He is all excited lol

Jim

hah good stuff Jim. On the Oly shoes… Fuck yeah! I love squatting in them. Today I did Oly squats (fucking phenomenal form) for 340x2, pretty easy stuff. I’m looking forward to 405 in the oly squat, cause it looks so badass.

Q: what the hell is the Keizer row/shoulder press?

and wow: “Kroc row knee on bench
100 dumbell 60 reps”

that’s some insane endurance, straps or not. Nice job. Most I ever got with the 100s is 33 reps. My core gets a huge workout out of that too.
