So wait, your back is messed up, but you still curl? That only will make your back problem worse, let alone the fact, that you probably have crap form, so you’re working more back than biceps when you’re curling.
Good job.
Dumbass.

This is textbook troll/internet douchebag:
Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the missing link!
LOL, this whole thread makes me laugh, everyone is soooo touchy about etiquette!!
Every time I have wanted a power rack and someone was curling in it… I simply asked them nicely to curl elsewhere so I could squat. Each time this has happened to me they said “sure man” or something similar and moved on.
just ask them to move instead of getting so pissed off. It works fine.
TS, do yer thing, but don’t be surprised when someone over a buckfifty wants to do hers, and politely requests to use the equipment for what it was intended
I’d sooner take a dump in my car than curl in the power rack.
power rack is for power lifting. it is a safety device, not a device of convenience. I guess i wouldn’t kick a person in the sack for doing it, but they had best get out of the way when anybody wants to use the things for the appropriate exercises.
FWIW…I don’t do curls.

There are so few squat racks at my gym that it really pisses me off when people can curl anywhere but take up the one area of the gym that I need to get my workout done.
Use a damn bench press then put it on the bench and pick it up and curl it if you don’t want to dl such a small amount of weight from the floor. Their are tons of benches at most gyms compared to a squat rack. He was doing 135 which is a huge amount of weight for curls but absolutely nothing for dl.

Four guys. About 20 years old each, probably like 170 pounds each where ALL curling dimes, 2.5s and he bar in the squat rack. I openly made fun of them from a few feet away. They pretended not to hear me.
They made me sad in humanity. Especially since my gym is busy. I mean it being attached to a highschool. A highschool with you know sports teams and stuff.
Last week 3 of the PLers i train with helped a young lady learn to squat in the squat rack with the bar then worked up to 65, 85, then 95 lbs. It took over an hour. It delayed us all from squatting. She wasn’t a knockout and she was there with her husband who was so frustrated we offered to help. We didn’t ask her name or make fun of her, just taught her to push her knees out and butt back and keep her sternum up. They thanked us and left.
It was fun.
Now if they were doing curls with the same weight or even more we wouldn’t have been so nice about getting held up for an hour.
Bar weight has no bearing on power rack use.
The Exercise you are doing does have bearing on power rack use.
Honestly, and you can bash me for this but it is my opinion, If the gym’s power racks are relatively empty, then there’s no problem with curling in the squat racks… especially if you do what some of the people I train with do, like curling with 135 pounds and whatnot…
But if the power racks are busy, then definitely, reconsider as courtesy and for the benefit of others using the equipment.
I agree with most people it’s a courtesy issue. The times I have done it there were more plates on the bar than people in the room. I have to say that the overall demeanor of the discussion is just the type of thing I never saw in the Testosterone Nation a few years ago. Oh well tragedy of commons is almost inevitable this day and age.
Maybe some people who curl in the squat rack do so to not take up space elsewhere in the gym, since the rack is usually hardly used at all…

Haven’t seen that one in a while. High time it was polished off and used!

and if you read my other post man i got a bad back so technically my curl is actually around 50 percent of my deadlift. [/quote]
If you were doing curls in the rack in my gym, i would throw you out. Because it’s my gym.
Of course, I would never have invited you anyway.
Hanley said it well enough, just use some consideration. Many people bitch about this because so many people are so inconsiderate in regards to standard gym etiquette. As more main stream people have started training, we see more of this stuff.
Back in the day this behavior was pretty uncommon. The only people lifting were the more hardcore and athletic types. And believe me, there wouldn’t be any doing curls in a rack. Half the time there weren’t any racks. You just picked up a barbell and curled.
If power racks were common, curling in the rack would have gotten you a beaten or some serious ribbing.
how shameful
so much space…so little weight…such shitty form…
I’m gonna say troll. Defending squat rack curls AND shadowboxing in the same thread? There’s no way. This thread should be combined with the Vegan Musclehead to create the greatest troll job in history.

I like the way you think!
That would be awesome.

Lol… My training partner shot that video. He’s managed to escape from his college gym to the powerlifting one I train at now!!

+1 That is good stuff right there! When I was a young’un older lifters took the time to help me all the time. I now return that service when asked, or if I see something which is dangerous or unintentionally done wrong.
Kudos Jack!

I agree, my philosophy is to help anyone who is making an honest effort. You never know when you’ll get some good partners out of the deal.
it really depends on what situation your in my oppinion. if nobodys there then go ahead and curl in the rack, who the fuck cares. most gyms dont have many racks, and when theres alot of people there lift the weight off the floor. if your gym has a hell of alot of racks or you train at home go ahead. i dont see why some of you guys say its ok if you curl 135 pounds, thats not even much at all and anyone could pick it up off the floor

Exactly, these fags on here are just rambling saying shit they dont even understand, they just want to fit in with the crowd and bash people for no reason, if some1 wants to squat, shoulder press, curl, rack pull w/e let them do it who the fuck cares. Im going to do what works for me.
And for you guys that are bitching that their is not enough racks in your gym, Then quit working out at CURVES and join a real gym.
