ALRIGHT HERES MY RANT. In EVERY single strength article i read they all talk of some little kid interfering with their training by doing some curls in the powerrack. Whats so wrong about this? EliteFTS.com - Barbell "Kroc" Curls - YouTube
Everyone who i talked to is against curls in the rack but they believe 21s do wonders for arm strength. well 21s (there are many versions) are basically 7 reps near the botom portion, 7 reps mid to lockout and then 7 at the top portion. a better way to get more out of this exercise would be to change the power rack pins on each portion of the lift. this way you can increase weight poundage.
Some of you might believe Dave Tate’s “curls are for girls” philosophy. Well let me ask this. IF this is the truth then why are so many westside lifters having bicep tears?
heres an article of a westside lifter proving my point http://www.elitefts.com/documents/strongman_training.htm.
The main point of this was for people not to neglect curls and to try and convince people to open their eyes and not believe everything they hear. Just some things to think about.
What is being said is that they shouldn’t be done in the powerrack because only an inconsiderate shit would hog a rack for an exercise that requires maybe 20-30% of a persons max deadlift to be picked up from the ground to perform.
You’ve COMPLETELY missed the point. You might wanna change your screen name so people don’t hold this against you in future.
(i aint matt)… naw man i dont care what anyone thinks … im here to speak my mind if you dont like it thats ur problem dude… What im saying is if a guy wants to do some curls then let the man do some curls dont bash the guy. in a gym people are entitled to use what they want even if you dont agree with it.
Your the type of dude in highschool that would ask a kid to leave a bench press because he benches 100 as a max vs ur 300? am i right?

Surely you’re Matt, because you posted up the video as proof of when curls in the powerrack are ok. I mean, it’d be stupid if you couldn’t actually do what he was doing and tried to use it as a justification for curling in the powerrack.

No, I’m the type of guy who’ll stay in the gym spotting and loading all day to try out help out other lifters.
Once again, no one is saying don’t do curls. They’re saying stay the hell out of the rack. How hard is that for you to comprehend?
Here, I’ll say it again…
Do curls. Do them in the gym. Do them with a bar, or with dumbbells, whatever. Pick them up from the floor and curl.
Don’t do them in the rack (unless the gym is empty). If you do them in the rack you’re blocking it off from use by someone who might actually need it. Ya know, for squats, rack pulls or presses of some sort. The sorta shit that isn’t 20% of your max deadlift and can’t be picked up off the floor.
alright man 2 vs 1 lets go. to t3hpunisher basically what ur saying is i have to bench press above everyone else to speak my mind on bench pressing? You can learn from anybody you dont gotta be the strongest guy at the gym to give advice and that guy is not always right, which was my point.
to hanley yeah man i got it dude i didnt want this to be some crazy debate man. first off noone uses the rack at my gym and secondly like i was saying for the 21s doing the curls in a rack can be benefical. but yeah i got ur point

Matt, I imagine you can greatly bench more than me, you don’t need to hold that over my head.
I agree with you though, if you pay your gym fees, you should be able to use the equipment in any way you want. I don’t have any chairs in my home, so after my workout, I sit on the preacher curl and read for 3 hours. I then eat my lunch off of the bench press, and play soccer with the swisss balls for a couple of hours.

Alright man i didnt mean for this to be some stupid debate and i understand all ur points. ANd hanley u said no1 is saying curls are bad but in my origional post i was saying how dave tate disagrees with curls. And the article i had explained that.
to the t3hpwnisher in the above quote your trying to say i cant use that as an example if i cant do the same amount of weights?Dave tate has a 600 lb bench press so no1 should question his ideas then? that goes to my point which is for every1 not to believe everything that they hear. the point of the forum is to have different ideas and opinions. Happy holidays!

No, I’m not saying that at all actually, but your strawman is cute. I’m saying it’s stupid of you to use a video of Matt when he’s clearly the exception, not the rule. The “curling in the squat rack” complaint is geared towards the 150lb twigs with no idea of how to train occupying a valuable piece of equipment with an exercise that is worthless for them (given that they have no training methodology whatosever to their madness) and prevents other people from training effectively.
Lets use your own counter argument. If the amount of weight used is not relevant, why did you not post this video

The message should be the same, no?

NOW I AM STARTING TO GET PISSED OFF wtf is wrong with 150 lb twigs u shit cant you see my name is buckfiftytrainer. now listen here…wtf why would matt be an exception because he curls alot of weights? listen man… .omfg this is pissing me off. wow… i dont even know wtf to say… whats the difference if someone curled 20 lbs in the squat rack vs someone rack pulling 50 lbs? either way your going to get pissed off right… Plus like i said i understand ur arguement of some guy curling in the rack and you want to bench. Im in and out of the rack in 5 mins tops… thats better then some people who take 20 minutes rest in between sets and go for a 1 rep max and try to get everyones attention. and who cares if its different then mainstream views? If power rack curls works for someone then why stop them.
this went far away from my main point of the post… the shit that pisses me off is every1 bashes someone for doing curls in the rack. some people need to do curls from the rack who have bad backs like me. and probably most people on this site think that curling in the rack is stupid or w/e. who cares? i do stuff that most people find unusual. You think when i shadow box in my gym people find that normal? or when i use my neck harness. I honestly dont care about what everyone finds normal. but curling in the power rack is a really good bicep exercise, try it next time
buckfiftytrainer wrote:
and if you read my other post man i got a bad back so technically my curl is actually around 50 percent of my deadlift.
Ladies and Gentlemen, it looks like we have a troll from FantasyFeeder.com.
Curling in the squat rack is like parking in a handicapped spot.
Sure, you can do it, but it’s extremely rude. Just because all the handicapped spots are open doesn’t mean you can park there because it’s convenient. If you have a need for that spot (or curl more than 135 lbs) then it’s allowed.
