The Kai Greene Thread

I am a firm believer that your mind is the most anabolic supplement around, and if you don’t believe you can accomplish something, you never will.

Here is an interview that took place hours after he placed 4th at the Mr. Olympia this year, in the middle there is some footage that has already been posted, but for the most part it is new.

cool interview in italy. talking about posing and the art that is bodybuilding.

Actual part 2^^^

I gotta say, i am a big fan of branch and cutler. I was very happy to see them finish so high at the last olympia. But the more i hear Kai speak, and the more i learn about who he is and where he has come from, the more i respect him.

I can feel the enthusiasm he has for bodybuilding through his voice, he seems excited to talk about bodybuilding in most of the interviews and videos i’ve watched so far. I don’t hear that kind of enthusiasm from most of the other bodybuilders, most of them sound alot like Cutler, machinelike would be how i would describe it. Not a bad thing imo, but it certainly is refreshing to hear someone like Kai talk about bodybuilding.

X, you are right, Kai greene certainly is a very interesting bodybuilder. I especially like how he uses his mind and the positivity that he has. Starting now i am pulling for this guy to win.

I’m a big fan of Cutler and Branch as well, but admitedly, you can just sense Kai’s love of training. He truly realizes how lucky he is to have reached this point, and you know he’s grateful for the opportunity. You can’t help but like the guy and want him to do well.

I’m sure I mentioned it somewhere already, but when he showed up at the '09 NYPro (as a spectator), so many people were hanging outside the venue before they would let us in, and Kai was just talking to everyone for easily over an hour. His enthusiasm was almost tangible.

Kai doing his best LL impression:

Pretty amazing how fluid he is at his beastly size!

I was watching that at work with the sound off and during the segment where he’s throwing punches with that red hood and boots, the first thought that popped into my head was that he looks like some kind of superhero.

Just to throw this out there. I think in everyday life, most large people we encounter are obese and so I think one tends to associate large with slow / non-athletic. But fat just sits there and is pretty useless. These guys, even in the off season, are carrying a lot of muscle mass. Muscles drive movement, fat does not. So i’m not sure that it’s really so surprising these guys can move themselves quickly and gracefully if they wanted to. They must be pretty in touch with their bodies to develop them to that degree.

Exactly, that enthusiasm is so infectious. As you said you just love that rags to riches story that he has, and how humble he is about everything. That is so rare to see in today’s society in general as well.

Has anyone seen the new Kai DVD? Just got it today tranining scence are intense to say the least.

I’ve seen this comparison photo before, but every time it impresses the hell out of me.[/quote]

It’s heavily doctored: it’s an ad for Carnivor protein and they’re trying to take the credit for his size & conditioning improvements. Anyway, not to take away from Kai – he’s a beast! – but that’s basically a photoshop to move product.

Sorry to spam here but I think what makes Kai so impressive – aside from physique – is his emphasis on the intellectual/spiritual aspects of bodybuilding which preclude the physical aspects that everyone is so instantly focussed on. He’s always insisting that you have to get your mind (your focus, and imagination) engaged FIRST, and the body then serves the intellect. He’s correct, and it’s just very odd that it’s taken this long for someone to say that. It’s why there are so many haters out there IMO, because such a statement seems effete in the macho ethos of bodybuilding.
