Agreed, you will get used to it.
Remember too, that entitlement works both ways, and just because you bust your ass and demonstrate a level of competence in your general life above the normal, doesn’t make you any better or more deserving. Actually it does, but don’t start getting a big head or acting like your hot shit, because other people feel the same way about their activities and some of your habits probably piss them off as well.
There is nothing wrong w/ girls going to the gym to hit on guys either. In fact, I would be for far more of it. A slap on the ass and a ‘looking good hot stuff’ after a heavy set of squats would be awesome.

I dont think he figures hes better then everyone else, just some people piss him off; as they do to me and you and as you pointed out we do to them.
I do fully agree on a hot chick slapping my ass after a heavy set of squats, if every workout ended with a blow job then I’d never leave the gym.
Kirk Karwoski said it best “Am on a mission. Dont be in here talking about how many chicks you banged on saturday night at that keg party while am in here training. I said it a million times. And if I told you twice a 45 came flyin at you. WOOSH(throws plate) Shutup.”
This is what I want to tell people when there hanging out around the squat rack.

It’s difficult not to people watch, especially when someone is being lame or a girl is hot or a big dude is picking up really heavy stuff. But no where in any workout plan does it say “stop what you’re doing and people watch for two minutes.”
Feel me?
Grudgingly, you have a point. Doesn’t change the fact they suck. But point taken.
I don’t think he has a point. Watching people doesn’t involve me changing what I’m doing one bit. In between sets, I’ve got nothing else to do besides drum along to my music, watch people, and count the seconds until my next set. It takes no effort or concentration to realize when people are fucking around and get annoyed by it…especially if you’re a cantankerous person to begin with.
After a few sets of squats the other day, I went to get some water. When I got back to the squat rack, two guys and a girl who were intermittantly using the standing calf raise machine that is next to the squat rack were having some kind of fucking pow wow essentially in the squat rack. I politely asked them to move, yet they acted like I was somehow inconveniencing them. The fuck? I’m so sorry that I lacked the forsight to think that my squatting might get in the way of your dog-fucking.

I’ll start out by saying that I haven’t met all my goals and don’t have the body I want yet. But then again who does. Is anybody ever happy? Having said that I was extremely pissed off in the gym today. I saw two people, a man and woman (I’m assuming a couple) take a slow walk on the treadmill while watchig TV and do maybe 10 minutes of light weights (Lat Pull downs and leg extensions mostly) and then get ready to leave.
I was curious so I asked the guy how long he had been coming there since I had just joined this gym. He said six months but he was thinking about quiting because it isn’t working for them. I am a very timid person for the most part but got the balls up to ask, “Is that typical of your workouts?” He said, “Yes.” “So you aren’t rehabbing an injury?” He said, “No, just trying to lose some weight.” Seriously? No results? Of course not! Can anybody out there tell me what the hell wrong with people?!?
I may be a bit lazy some days and not work out as hard as I should but I literally beat myself up about it the next day at the gym to try and make up for it. I am soooo tired of the girls who come in the gym and do nothing but talk and try to hit on guys and the guys who are only there to try and appease their girlfriends or boyfriends or whatever. Do it for yourself and no one else. I think those girls and guys give someone who is trying a bad name.
Like the chubby girl at my old gym who after six months had visably lost quite a bit and toned up. The funniest thing I ever saw was a guy trying to hit on her and her response being, “I’m busy.” She always busts her ass and isn’t there to mess around. The people I’m pissed at are the poeple who seem to have endless amounts of time to waste. My time is precious and I barely find the time for the gym so I make it count. I hate the people who don’t.
Oh wait I forgot the Old Guys who trying to talk to you when you are in the middle of a set of deadlifts and get annoyed when you don’t answer. Maybe the new gym will be devoid of those guys? Just maybe.
Anybody else feel this way?
You’re being too hard on yourself and others IMO. I say this because that fat couple’s failures bother you, and other people’s actions seem to annoy or embarass you. Do you know how much weight you could take off your shoulders by simply accepting those around you?
It’s that the socializing always tends to be in the way that’s annoying. If three people are hogging a piece of equipment for 10 minutes because most of their time is spent chatting, and it’s stopping others from using said equipment, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to get annoyed.
I rarely lift in a civilian gym(except lately - on leave), but when I do, I usually don’t run into too many problems with other people. Like someone else said, maybe I have a ‘fuck off’ aura about me. Ipod helps too.
In my experience(not to be a dick), if you are squatting a lot of weight(more than your average gymgoer, at least), most people will not offer to ‘correct’ your form.

x2.
Once I get 4 plates on the bar, I start getting the ‘I bet he isn’t going to go all the way down’ looks. Once I get 5 plates, I will literally have people stop what they are doing to watch me squat. The couple times we have gone to 6 plates, people talk about it loud enough to be heard.
I haven’t had anyone there tell me how to squat, ha.

In my gym when I deadlift more than 4 plates people are checking me out. I remember last year there was a guy, the only one who ever did it in my gym, who could deadlift 5plates (wow! lol), when he did it 15 people gathered around him and started cheering and supporting him. Everybody was like ‘‘yeah’’ or ‘‘Oh my god!’’. It was really excessive.
he doesnt train there anymore but I have seen him and he’s training with light weight now, didnt got past 5plates.
lol I will be pulling 5plates in about 2-3 months.I wonder what is gonna happen. If I pull more than 505 I am my gym top deadlifter ever lol. I am already the best squatter (3,25 plates lol again). Oh no correction there is a guy who does quarter squat with 405
Beside of that I have noticed that some female who are as old as my mom are trying to pick me. I don’t give them the chance.
I know exactly what you mean, fuller. I’ve just started as a trainer at a local gym, and I’m trying my damnedest to make it more hardcore.
I’ve already had a client that wanted to start up with some personal training. He had back surgery, and he’s almost done with his PT, but he gained a LOT of weight during that time. In one half-hour meeting, I had to explain to him that:
The band thing that he’s wearing around his lower belly will not help him “sweat out the fat.”
Why we use weight training, and not enormous amounts of cardio to cut fat.
Why diet is so crucial to fat loss.
That, yes indeed, squats and deadlifts are the most beneficial exercise for many reasons, and that they are safe to perform.
Fortunately, I’ve had tons of experience in retail and with dealing with people well, and I got him to see my perspectives on things. Really, he was happy to have someone so knowledgeable to talk to.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that failure in the gym can simply be the result of ignorance. People don’t know what they don’t know, and they often go about their ways never thinking to touch a squat rack or to put some effort into it, as obvious as that is. Some people would also probably just love to hear from another person that knows their stuff, since it’s so hard to sort through what fitness information is good and what’s crap.
My gym has changed incredibly in the last 2 years. Nowdays, about 10 times a year we have special “days” at the gym, like “members’ day”, or the club birthday (etc).
I shit you not when I say on these days the staff are costumed taking PLATTERS OF LOLLIES AROUND, there’s a DJ playing in this relatively small gym so loud that I can’t even hear my own ipod, in combination with other stupidity that is mindblowing.
Oh yeah they also have free chicken and pizza on those days, as well as chips on the front table (there’s also some fruit & nuts to be fair) … still I can’t believe it. I literally have to actively suspend my disbelief in order to preserve the little faith I have in humanity
The gym is a ‘Genesis’ branch in Melbourne. I’d advise people from Oz to be wary before signing up.

Worry about the shit you can change. Accept everything else. Life instantly becomes 10000x less stressful when you decide to do this.
Anytime I am in the gym it’s around the 6-9 AM period. Every group in that time frame I cannot stand. It’s all old men talking really loud and old women who don’t do shit.
But I just don’t pay attention to them and spite everyone by grunting really loud and pushing and pulling weights like no ones business, because it really isn’t their business, and what they do with their free time isn’t mine. I care about getting huge and being in great physical shape while your average gym goer is concerned with how long they can peddle the bike for an hour whilst talking to their wife. I guess there isn’t much else to do when you’re 80.
