He had ended his career in 1999 after losing to Wlad for the European championship. Yesterday, he made a less than stellar comeback against Brian Minto (TKO in the 6th).

Cool, thanks for that. I also see Corrie Sanders is coming back, the guy who brutally crushed Wlad in 2 rounds.
I remember that. To me, it was one of the greatest upsets I’ve ever witnessed.
Sanders defeated Colin Wilson on the 24th of November if I’m not mistaken, TKO in the 2nd. I bet Wlad would love to have him in the ring once again.[/quote]
i doubt wlad will rematch sanders…a stylistic nightmare for klitschko…who is easily hit by that straight left sanders throws, and has a china chin to boot…too dangerous.
Too bad his fight against McCline yesterday had to end in a TKO after the third due to injury.
As far as I know, Valuev was seen ahead by two of three judges at that point, but McCline put up a good fight and in my opinion, he even was the more active and aggressive of the two.
Damn, I want those hours of sleep back I wasted waiting for that “fight”…
Good bump. Hatton’s fight was just as boring as Valuev’s. Wlad will pop Ray Austin’s head just like Brock’s, then I pray to God we see a unification fight. Vitali is going back the gym this week to see if his body can handle a comeback. That should be interesting if anything materializes from that.
Bring it back baby! It looks like Wlad did as expected and shattered Ray Austin’s face without even throwing a right hand. Just as impressive, though against a much more dubious opponent, was just how good Sultan looks when he comes into a fight giving a shit. He probably has the best hand speed of any of the heavies.
I kind of find it funny that when Wlad crushes the Ray Austin’s of the world all the commentators call it a joke, but when Mike Tyson did it in the 80’s he was a wrecking machine of epic proportions. Whatever, hopefully this Wlad-Valuev fight goes down but with Don King in the mix who knows (why won’t you die already, Don?). Right now I’m super pumped about Briggs-Ibragimov after seeing Sultan get in shape again.
what is wlads mental state going in against a guy he used as a punching bag for 4 rounds, only to gas out and get ktfo in the 5th?
how prepared is brewter after the long lay-off?
no way am i predicting anything on this one.
but IF wlad wins, i think he will destroy ruslan and sultan and unify a few of the alphabet soup titles.
anybody heard any buzz about peter/oleg?
btw, total agreement about the comment about wlads victory over austin, i think anytime a HW champion puts his title on the line against another trained HW, he should get credit. in the land of 6-4 6-6 240-260lb giants, it only takes ONE LUCKY SHOT to lose your title.
also, anyone heard any news about hatton/mayweather? could this actually happen?
holey shit! what a one sided beating. i did not see a single punch landed on wlad by brewster. i really like brewster too, we as fans could do a lot worse than a guy like him as our champion. but wlad looks unstoppable right now. i have NO idea who he fights next, shit, does anybody(unless it is some journeyman with nothing to lose) even want to fight him now?
I think we can start talking about Wlad’s jab as one of the best ever. He looks unstoppable right. Chagaev-Sultan is a great first step towards unification, let’s hope we get Klit-Maskaev and things will finally look good.

That fight was like watching a baby seal being clubbed to death. It was almost comical. Wlad knocked out Brewster with one hand and a broken middle finger!
You know, I really don’t know what to say about the heavyweight division except that it certainly has been stagnant. I also remember hearing that the next great American heayweight champion was lurking somewhere in the NFL. Seeing that boxing really doesn’t pay as well as the NFL, I can understand that statement.
As for the Klitschko brothers, I don’t know. Wlad is almost certainly going to unify the titles, and become the world champ.
Wladimir is certainly a great boxer. On the other hand, you seldom see his opponents applying serious pressure on him. Either it’s his ability to control the fight early on, or most of his adversaries have a bad gameplan. His chin is his weakest link, whereas his jab is his best tool.
Wlad has had the unique opportunity to learn under former east-german coach Fritz Sdunek, who emphasized a strong jab as the main strategic weapon (as most GDR coaches did). Now, he learns under Emanuel Steward and can pick some more north american styles of boxing.
I think it’s really the strong jab most north american heavies just aren’t familiar with, especially bruisers like Lemon, which gives Wladimir a distinctive advantage.
The heavyweights don’t thrill me anymore… Klitschko just owns everyone.
What I am waiting for is Hatton-Mayweather… I don’t think Pretty Boy will be able to duck the Manchester Banger so easily… and who here wouldn’t love to see that bastard get throttled?
The win over Castillo on a Mexican liver punch was pretty convincing, even though the cocksucking announcers gave Hatton NO credit for it.

The HBO boxing crew cracks me up. They are such a cluster fuck of crusty old bastards, between wife beater Lampley, the lush Merchant, and the punchy and questionably dense Lewis. I usually enjoy their commentary a lot, but they do pick favorites and try to push them hard. Merchant’s fawning over “The big, beautiful body” of Wlad is more than a little creepy.

LOL.
You know, some fights they are dead on, and others you just say, “What the fuck are they talking about? Are we watching the same fight?”
Valuev vs. Bergeron. While I could see Valuev winning a tight decision, 118:111 twice and 117:111 is a joke.
Valuev has a new trainer and obviously tried to adopt a new style. I guess at 34 years of age and with less than three months of time with Zimin, what he displayed was all that could be expected.
I’m sceptical that we’ll be seeing him as a world champion again. On the other hand, the competition is very limited as well…
