Wlad-241 Brock-224
Refreshing to see two HW’s show up in fighting shape for once. Wlad is a machine and always comes in looking good, Brock slimmed down a bit and looks in the best shape of his career. Should be a good fight. Wlad by KO in 6.

i will be watching this one tomorrow.
i just watched a special feature on brock on HBO, though i am a fan of wlad, i will not be too disappointed if Brock wins.
why? i think he could be good for boxing, good looking, educated, well spoken, charismatic, a gentleman, and an interesting story on how he became a pro boxer.
this one is a win-win for me.

Look, I agree that Margarito is by far the biggest threat to Floyd at Welter and that a DLH fight is just about money. Hell, DLH hasn’t really been a relevant fighter in years. It’s the same reason that everyone still wanted to fight a clearly shot Tyson. His name brings both money and recognition.
That being said I don’t think for a second that Floyd is afraid of anybody, including Margarito. Floyd has immense talent and an even bigger ego. I don’t think he’s ducking anybody. Floyd is just doing what’s best for his career at this point and that means DLH. If given a choice I’m sure Margarito would rather fight DLH too.
The fight with Baldomir was what his 3rd at welterweight? His first two
were against Gatti and Judah who aren’t really true welter’s anyway. So
sure Mayweather took the path of least resistance in order to get a title in the division and give himself better bargaining power. What was he suppose to do, jump up in weight and fight the toughest guy in the division in his first fight? Remember Floyd was a lightweight not long ago.
If Floyd leaves the division without ever fighting Margarito that will
be a disgrace, but I don’t think Floyd?s afraid of him. I think it has
more to do with Margarito’s promoter Bob Arum, who used to promote and no longer gets along with Floyd. As far as turning down 8 million?maybe, maybe not. Promoters make big offers to fighters all the time, but they usually put in some kind of ridiculous catch so that afterwards, when the guy turns it down, they can run around saying that this guy is ducking my fighter.
Hopefully, Floyd and Antonio do eventually get it on, and when then do,
I expect something similar to when Mayweather fought Coralles.

you make some good points, and good argument, but i still feel that mayweather is ducking Margarito, and IMHO, both(Margarito and PBF) are staying the hell away form Paul Williams.
a tall hard hitting southpaw, now come on, why would they not want to fight him? LOL

It’s amazing what Brock has done considering he went pro at a time when most pro’s were already in their peak years. Brock is a good guy, for sure. Both of them are curteous professionals so I won’t be bummed either way.

haha, you missed by only one round!
good call.
my view on the fight:
good fight. Brock is the goods, not a pretender. he came in with a good game plan. he is hard to hit and counters well, which made wlad cautious early. he did a great job early, landing solid body shots, then closing the distance quick getting inside the bigger mans range and tying him up, all the while keeping his hands high.
it worked for 4 rounds, i actually had it even or maybe a slight edge for Brock.
in the fifth, wlad opened up his left jab, and it is no pawing jab, his jab is a weapon. the announcers counted 15 unanswered hard snap-your-head-back jabs by wlad in the opening minute. he threw 57 jabs that round, landing about 40% of them. he ended the round with a couple of hard right hands which hurt Brock and earned him some respect. Brock was not as willing to come in and throw body shots after that.
a clinch in the 6th resulted in a head-but, with wlad getting a pretty bad cut over the left eye. this seemed to light a fire under wlad, and he came out in the 7th throwing a left jab which he doubled up with a hook, and followed with BIGH rights, every one hurt Brock, and the last one floored him hard. Brock went down face first(always a bad sign) and got up at 8, but was still on queer street, and the ref stopped it.
i hope Brock does not get discouraged, he is a good fighter, and IMHO still beats a lot of the top 20.
next i would like to see Briggs wlad, but i doubt it will happen. we will see.
Nicely summed up by heavythrower.
Wlad definitely is the best heavyweight at present and if he has the mental stability to deliver only roughly what he is capable of, I don’t see anyone beating him in the near future.
Brock put up a good fight but as it happens so often, the dominant fighter again managed to turn his game up a notch when required while the underdog was going full throttle already and had nothing to add.
By the way, I second the Briggs call.
yeah, as i said on another forum, Wlad/Briggs would be a good fight. with Wlads “chin” (don’t get me started on that bullshit) and Briggs big heavy hands, it will be exciting to watch. plus Briggs is well know here in the states, and especially in new york, and he (Briggs) has the personality and mouth to really promote the fight and make it entertaining. And it would be a step in unifying the titles.
I don’t want to get optimisitc here, but I honestly think we will see either Valuev-Wlad or Briggs-Wlad next. Now that Don King has two belt holders, he’ll be a lot more willing to pawn one off to the Wlad machine. Either fight would clearly be the biggest fight in the HW division since Vitali-Lewis. I know Briggs hasn’t done a manadatory yet (Sultan is his number 1), but I’m sure they could make an exception. Wlad is clearly the biggest payday out there right now which gives him the money lever.
Brock is an excellent fighter. HT summed it up nicely, but Brock DID bring the right game plan and did well to execute it. I had the fight 38-38 going into the 5th.
speaking of mandatory, i heard on another site that Ray Austin has been named Wlad’s next mandatory. anybody can confirm this?

The rankings that I’ve seen have Austin ranked #2, with the #1 spot vacant.
Also, I read today that Oscar/Floyd is a done deal for May 5th.

I believe Austin has to rematch his last opponent who he drew with, the #1 spot is still vacant.

Holy shit, Mayweather-De La Hoya at 154 lbs. This will the biggest fight in a long, long time. They’re saying it might close in on 2 million PPV buys, which would certainly fatten the wallets of both of them. The best fighter in the world against the most popular, should be insane.
Barrera-Pacman III tonight. I’ll be at watching UFC 65, but I’ll be sure to record this one or flip back and forth during Rogan and Goldberg’s pointless between round blathering. Don’t know a ton about either of these guys, saw their second fight, but I love the Pacman and will take him based on what I’ve been reading.

This fight could go either way. Last fight Morales was drained from making weight and faded down the stretch. I like both guys but I’m taking Morales in the rubber match.

You know, I think I’m gonna stop making predictions.

LOL. The best is when you go to all this trouble to make a choice, explain your choice, and confidently pick the round of victory. Then your girl friend walks in the room, points to the other guy and says “I like the color of his shorts, he’s going to win” and sure enough, she’s right. I watch boxing alone now.
Does anyone remember Axel Schulz?
He had ended his career in 1999 after losing to Wlad for the European championship. Yesterday, he made a less than stellar comeback against Brian Minto (TKO in the 6th).
Here’s the video (click on “Runde 1” for round 1, “Runde 2” for round 2, etc.)…

Cool, thanks for that. I also see Corrie Sanders is coming back, the guy who brutally crushed Wlad in 2 rounds.
