The Acne Thread

I’ve tried nearly every prescription cream and oral antibiotic for acne treatment as well as pro-active, clearasil, and all the other stuff you’ll find in the aisles of CVS. I’ve been on Accutate twice and I’d rather not go on it again. I’m washing my face and I’m not eating the crap diet that most of my peers do.

So, any unorthodox ideas on what works and what doesn’t? Anything I haven’t heard of before? I’m sure anything posted will help out more people than just me.

I have the same problem I a shit load of money for my dermatologist appointments.

I am prescribed:

Accutance (Roaccutance in the UK)
Panoxyl - face wash
Dermol 500 - to use as shaving cream and moisturiser.

I am sure you can get these or equivalents in the USA.

Acne is an inflammatory response to bacterial infection. A topical drug will kill the bacteria or help heal the infection but will NOT prevent acne. Large amounts of fish oil or an equivalent of 8-12 grams EPA and DHA daily WILL act to mitigate acne inflammation and dermatitis in general.

The problem I had was my diet. Although you are eating clean it can still be the type of foods you are eating that are causing the acne. You can try something my brother tried that worked wonders for him.

He went on a microdose accutane course. I mean it was about 2.5-5 mg. Also Milk and foods like potatoes, rice, even fruits that raise insulin can be contributing. When your insulin rises to high your body produces more sebum which causes acne.My brother is completely clear now.

I on the other hand never had bad acne, But once I cut milk from my diet along with things like fried foods, I cleared up. I get all my carbs from veggies and 1 cup of oatmeal a day. I keep my fruit intake very low.

well your shaving habits can affect acne. Make sure you shave often and lightly.
also, sun and chlorine works wonders.

Radiation is the enemy. Sun will only worsen your case. Don’t listen to this and get plenty of sunscreen, vitamin A and fish oil.

I find Erythromycin & Zinc Acetate lotion to be very effective. I have tried pretty much everything except accutane.

why do you not want to go on accutane again?

Not speaking for Scott but it is a very strong medicine:

More common accutane side effects may include:
Conjunctivitis (``pinkeye’'), dry or fragile skin, dry or cracked lips, dry mouth, dry nose, itching, joint pains, nosebleed

Less common accutane side effects may include:
Bowel inflammation and pain, chest pain, decreased night vision, decreased tolerance to contact lenses, delay in wound healing, depression, fatigue, headache, nausea, peeling palms or soles, rash, skin infections, stomach and intestinal discomfort, sunburn-sensitive skin, thinning hair, urinary discomfort, vision problems, vomiting

Special warnings about this medication:
When you first start taking Accutane, it is possible that your acne will get worse before it starts to get better.

If you are a woman of childbearing age and you are considering taking Accutane, you will be given both spoken and written warnings about the importance of avoiding pregnancy during the treatment. You will be asked to sign a consent form noting that:

  • Accutane is a powerful, "last resort’’ medication for severe acne;
  • You must not take Accutane if you are pregnant or may become pregnant during treatment;
  • If you get pregnant while taking Accutane, your baby will be at high risk for birth defects;
  • If you take Accutane, you must use effective birth control from 1 month before the start of treatment through 1 month after the end of treatment;
  • You must test negative for pregnancy within 2 weeks before starting Accutane, and you must start Accutane on the second or third day of your menstrual period;
  • You may participate in a program that includes an initial free pregnancy test and birth control counseling session;
  • If you become pregnant, you must immediately stop taking Accutane and see your doctor;
  • You have read and understood the Accutane patient brochure and asked your doctor any questions you had;
  • You are not currently pregnant and do not plan to become pregnant for at least 30 days after you finish taking Accutane; |
  • You have been invited to participate in a survey of women being treated with Accutane.

Some people taking Accutane, including some who simultaneously took tetracycline, have experienced headache, nausea, and visual disturbances caused by increased pressure within the skull. See a doctor immediately if you have these symptoms; if the doctor finds swelling of the optic nerve at the back of your eye, you must stop taking Accutane at once and see a neurologist for further care.

Be careful driving at night. Some people have experienced a sudden decrease in night vision.

Some people taking Accutane have had problems regulating their blood sugar level.

You may not be able to tolerate your contact lenses during and after your therapy with Accutane.

You should stop taking Accutane immediately if you have abdominal pain, bleeding from the rectum, or severe diarrhea. You may have an inflammatory disease of the bowel.

You should not donate blood during your therapy with Accutane and for a month after you stop taking it.

holy shit. thats ridiculous.

Thanks CantStop. Although the pregnancy isn’t a concern for me, it’s still a very harsh drug. I think it also interferes with my ability to recover and get jacked since it does radically change the patients hormones.

I take about 200% of my daily value of Vitamin A through supplements alone and I eat a lot of carrots at least twice a day.

I haven’t been too good about taking my Udo’s Choice Fish Oil capsules because I wasn’t particularly impressed with the results they’ve given me. I should be taking them multiple times a day but I’ve only been doing it before bed. I’ll try taking a dose upon waking as well and once I finish off this bottle I’ll go for the more potent stuff: Flameout.

Other than that, I’m still on the most potent face creams and tetrycycline so I’ve got the drugs that are the step below Accutane. I’ve also got the Panoxyl face wash.

If it comes down to it, I may get some sort of procedure this summer instead of returning to Accutane.

Nothing revolutionary but have you tried:

Sauna

Run outside with a very loose/breathable shirt for a few miles…preferably in the sun. You’ll want to use light sunscreen though.

Do you pop large pimples to prevent permanent pore stretching?

Do you rub your face a lot? Especially when sweating? If so you should make an effort to stop.

Only other thing I can think of is getting somebody to cum on your face…worked wonders for my girlfriend…also cures/prevents breast cancer.

Usually my problem is when i touch my face. My hands are usually pretty sweaty and greasy from sports or whatever. The less i touch my face, usually the less of an outbreak i have.

I have had the great results using this guys protocol. The only thing that has worked better for me is accutane.

Mega Dose fish oil.

12 caps of Flameout a day will cure acne, cancer, AND get you laid.

i havent read any of the other replies, but accutane did wonders for me.

only side affects i had were mad dry lips and some dry skin on my arms but definatly the sides were well worth it. i took accutane 5 years ago and have been clear with the odd pimple every couple of months since…best decision i ever made.

and yeah i was the same way, i tried every fucking product on the shelf, good thing i had drug coverage so it wasent reall all that expensive. but even it you dont, its a great investment

Here’s an unorthodox idea that has worked like a fucking miracle for several people I know who had problems with boils all over their back and face…

PROPECIA… it’s a DHT blocker.

People who have excessive amounts of DHT in their system sometimes produce huge amounts of sebum that clog this shit out of their pores. Blocking excessive DHT production block the production of excessive amounts of sebum. Once the sebum problem goes away so does your acne.

THIS WORKS.

Also, remove milk products (lactose) and see if you have a lactose intolerance.

Also, sugary food cause acne as well. Follow a healthy diet.

BUT 4 caps of Flameout breakfast, lunch and dinner and in 2 weeks you’re be sweet (if you have a good diet).

You could lower your fish oil dosage afterwards and see how it goes.

Scott, I have had very bad acne from the age of 13-19 and it is almost gone now.

It cleared up considerably when I did the following;

Frequent swimming & getting fresh air & SUN - for the guy talking about excess radiation, what the fuck?

I stopped drinking milk, milk really really fucks up my skin even to this day. My skin could be perfectly clear, I drink a pint of milk and the next day I would have up to 6 white heads break up on my face, it’s horrible.

Sleeping habits also, I found if I stayed up later than 12am too often and woke up later than about 10am my acne worsened considerably.

I am also on a constant prescription of an anti-biotic (lymecycline 408mg, equivalent to tetracycline 308mg base) which has worked very well.

As for shaving, if I let any more hair grow out than I had to and hten shaved it would get quite bad, if I spent too much time shaving aswell it didn’t make things any better

So in summary:

  • Get a good prescription of anti-biotics, I recommened lymecycline wholeheartedly.

  • Swimming and plenty of sun

  • Stop drinking milk, possibly avoid other dairy products - just see how each type effects you, I personally don’t have a problem with cheese (in moderation)

  • Sleeping, try to get to bed before 12am and wake up before 10am.

  • Shaving, warm up your skin with hot water, apply a light layer of shaving cream, shave efficiently, quickly & lightly - pretend the spots are not there, and rinse off with cold water. Shave every other day, be consistant and do not let excess stubble grow out.

  • Drink lots of water.

EDIT - MISSED OUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING:
Stop using fucking face washes for the love of god!

The day I looked in the mirror and said ‘fuck you acne, I don’t care anymore’, stopped using my face wash and just went and did my own thing instead, it cleared up A TON.

You need to do what I said in the summary, but the most important thing is to stop caring about your acne, just wash your face as you would if you had perfectly clear skin (in the shower, perhaps in the morning when you wake up) but only wash it with water, fuck all that face wash shit.

Don’t moisturize either, don’t put any shit on your face that can clog up your pores - just water.
