I am 34 years old and about a year ago developed a bad case of tendonitis / tennis elbow in my right elbow from heavy lifting for several years…have had an MRI which showed small tear and have been seeing an orthopedic doctor for the past year. Two round of cortisone injections, several months of PT, and tried PRP injection about 2 months ago. Still no relief, and have been completely out of the gym with no lifting for the 8 months. Been doing acupuncture now for the past 2 weeks.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated…I want to be able to get back to the gym and into lifting routine but not sure how with the elbow pain.

U know you cant get a PRP injection after getting a cortisone injection? Two cortisone shots, yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, unreal how some physicians still use that for Tennis elbow, recurrent rate is higher then a wait and see approach… … … If all else has failed get it cleaned out ORRRR start trying some eccentrics and reduce mechanical loading with a thin strap
I’m pretty much in the same boat as you. I’ve had chronic tennis elbow for the past 3 years and it’s still with me but much better. A few things you can do to help better yourself.
Get off the cortisone injections and let it heal. Cortisone shots keep inflammation at bay and some inflammation is a good thing.
Use straps on everything you do and supinate your wrists as much as possible…especially during curls.
Message and stretch the forearm as much as possible during the day.
Ice is a waste of time…Only temporarily reduces inflammation. Heat is your best friend. Wrap your forearm with a heating pad for about an hour before bed…then stretch it.
Acupuncture may work for some, but it did absolutely nothing for me.
rest, rest, rest. nobody wants to hear that, i know, but it’s the only thing that will really heal the area. as for supplements, Elbow Revive is really good (has cissus, glucosamine, and a bunch of other good nutrients for your joints and tendons).
also, look into Voodoo Floss bands and look up a video on youtube about how to use them to work the elbows. definitely helps. if you don’t want to drop the money, just get a mountain bike tire inner tube and cut it in half… same thing.
As an update to my original post, I ended up getting surgery on my elbow last July. Been in rehab and physical therapy 2x a week for the past 10 months and recovery has been slow. Now living pain free in day to day life but haven’t been able to lift for about 1-2 years. Just started adding some light lifting back into my routine with my therapist, and was just 3 weeks ago finally able to do 25lb bicep curls in therapy without any pain. Just gets sore for 2 days afterwards.
Trying to ease back into things and really hope to be able to get back into a normal lifting routine soon. The whole recovery has been frustrating and painful.
Any additional advise or tips anyone has would be appreciated.
