Taranenko

Just curious about thoughts on this article: 15 workouts/week, 841 deep olympic style squat with a 2 second pause and raw? Anyone know if this guy still holds the clean and jerk world record with 585?

Sorry, here’s that link

Reza Zadeh broke it in the Olympics with 263.5.

Hi Guys
Taranenko’s 266kg Clean and Jerk set in 1988 has never been bettered. I think that Reza Zadeh could do it if he ever gets some decent competition.

An 841 full squat? Now that is impressive!

My bad! That was an Oly record, I assume. Leonid’s was the WR, right?

Hi Dookie
Reza Zadeh;s 263.5 is a WR; the reason being is that every time that the weight classes are changed the world records are wiped and a “world standard” is set. Eg the last time the weight classses were changed the 105+ world standard was set at 262.5, Reza Zadeh did 263 in Nov 03 thus setting the new world record, I hope this explains it.

Because of all this the lift by Taranenko is no longer recognised. A shame really.

That is one very impressive Oly lifter, and strength athlete!

supposably he was ready to jerk 275 in the 92 olympics but he was tested beforhand and would have been positive so he claimed an injury. He had done 270 in training. But you never know if these stories about these guys are true. People say Alexeyev could do 35 pullups. Suley C&Jed 200kilo in training. Pinsarinko missed a 260 squat the day before he clean and jerked it at the worlds. And the list goes on.

Hi Guys
There’s no doubt that these guys are amazingly strong, if your interested check the link below; my personal favorite is the Chakarov clip, both his speed and strength are very impressive all done wearing cycling shorts and a t-shirt.
