Surprised By My Own Progress

Hi all!

I’ve been following a diet plan, and I’ve been exercising daily (with 3xHIIT a week) for 6 weeks now.

But there’s something wrong with my progression. It’s going too fast for me to actually believe it.

Here’s my BF% for those past 6 weeks (3-site method):

Week 1: 17% (Accu-measure only)
Week 2: 17% (Accu-measure only)
Week 3: 15.40%
Week 4: 14.36%
Week 5: 13.49%
Week 6: 11.19%

Now here’s the weird thing, my weight is CONSTANT. I’m not loosing a single lb even tho I’m visibly leaner.

But according to these stats, in these past 6 weeks I lost 11lbs of fat, and gained 11 lbs of LBM.

The thing is, during 2 years (from 16 to 18) I worked out daily, 6x a week, and while I didn’t gain a lot of weight (poor nutrition) I made some awesome progress. Now I’m 21, 3 years have passed, and I am apparently gaining this all back too fast.

Any ideas? Can this be done with no AAS?

I believe the 11 lb lose, but not the 11 lb lean gain. That is absurd. Do you have pictures? Not that no one will believe you, but if its true than that is amazing process.

I know bro, I don’t believe it either. This is the reason I’m posting this, I think this is bullshit.
My back is more defined, sure.
My pecs are filling up like they never did back when I first worked out.
But I still think it’s bullshit.
Even with noobie gains, it makes no sense. Specially since I only weight 185. It’s not like I was 300lbs or something, which would make loose weight quite easy.

Does the Jackson-Pollock formula works greatly?
Should I get it checked by a professional?

Maybe you gained a few pounds of water as well.

LOL You are too funny! Seriously though, post pics so we can see a comparison.

Sometime back in the 60’s, Arthur Jones trained a young Casey Viator. He gained ~60 lbs in a month, some muscle memory.

I’ll post it as soon as I meet with my gf later tonight, so that she can take the pics with her cam.
But thanks for the benefit of the doubt, I’ve seen how you guys can basically jump someone like a pack of wolves around here.
Glad to see the relaxed side

i dont doubt it. im not sayin all 11lbs is lean body muscle mass… but yea, the hiit program does some crazy shit to your body

Here are my pics… My frontal pics were sucky, so I re-took it at home.

Here’s the back.

PS: No, I don’t think I am EVEN CLOSE to having an actual physique.
So please, refrain from posting useless replies about it because I’m already working on it.

I’m 5’10 btw, 1.8m.

And when I started I was just flabby, didn’t have a single drop of muscle. I took this pic before I started:

It didn’t show

Next time put some gym shorts on. I don’t want to see your undies. LOL

You ain’t 11% in them pics. I’d guess you around 13-14%.

What’s with all the freakin’ toothbrushes?

Ive been doing EDT training/Jump Rope Intervals/Crossfit Circuit workouts since late January. I started weighing my food and following a diet plan about 2 to 3 weeks after that. So its been about 9 weeks, and I’d thought I’d weigh less than I do. Either way, I wake up in the morning and walk into the bathroom, look in the mirror, and say to myself “are those my abs”. I don’t know if its from fat loss, or muscle gain, but I am starting to see cuts in my legs too. Its probably a little of both.

I have a Tanita scale, so I never trusted the body fat % it gave me. It also tells me I’m overweight whenever I use it, going by BMI or whatever which pisses me off. I just looked at my log and went from 19.5-20% start to 18-18.5% current. That amounts to about 6.5 lbs of fat loss. So I lost 6.5 lbs of fat and added about 1.5 lbs of muscle, according to Tanita. So, my data makes more sense than yours numerically, I guess. I went from 167 to 162, although it fluctuates all the time. Right now it gave me 167 @ 18.5% BF, although I just ate and am pretty hydrated.

What I’m trying to say is your body fat measurements are probably off. I’ve been reading these articles and a 3 site measurement isn’t accurate, especially when done by an inexperienced practitioner. Also are you weighing yourself in the morning after you pee wearing the same thing every time? Does it really matter though, you are losing fat and putting on muscle. If you do care, you should get a DEXA or at least an experienced pincher to take your measurements with the calipers. I’d say if your girlfriend sees you with your shirt off and is like “Ooh la la have you been working out”, you are on the right track.

If you’re 11% bodyfat, then I’m 8%. And I ain’t no 8%.

Your love handles definitly shrank.

Uhm. Keep lifting.

Could be you are just finally giving your body enough time to recover. Lifting 6 days a week really doesnt give your body the proper time to recover.

Today is the first day that I could actually see the hint of my upper abs.

Awesome.

Just got back from the gym and I’m completely beaten, it was the dip/chin-up day from ABBH week2.

I think you have made good progress. I definitely see the weight loss. The weight gain is a little more difficult. I’m not saying you didn’t do both (gain muscle, lose fat), it’s just difficult to measure.

I like that you’re trying to monitor your progress. It’s definitely possible to lose 11 pounds of fat and increase LBM in 6 weeks following a 3-year layoff. Especially if you’re suddenly following a diet plan, exercising every day, and doing HIIT 3X per week.

However, the 2.3% drop in Week 6 looks iffy. It’s a much bigger drop than the other weeks, not what I’d expect in a Week 6.

Calipers are great for measuring progress, but only if you use them exactly the same way every time. Sometimes the skinfold measure can be WAY different only 1 cm away. If you don’t have any identifying moles or marks in the area, have the person measuring you mark with a Sharpie so you can pinch exactly the same spot each week.

Your scale weight could also have varied on Week 6 due to water, overstating LBM. To avoid this fluctuation, weigh yourself the same way every time, in the morning, and then take the average of the last 4 days.

When you’re trying to change your body comp, what matters is reliably measuring CHANGE from week to week. It doesn’t matter if the equations produce an accurate BF% number. They probably won’t. You could actually be 16%, 14%, 11% – so what? The mirror is what tells you you’ve reached your fat loss goal, not the caliper. Keep going till you like what the mirror says.

Just aim for consistent, reliable measurement every week so you can tell if you are making progress and more importantly, that you’re not losing muscle.

With last week, here are my results:

Week 1: 17% (Accu-measure only)
Week 2: 17% (Accu-measure only)
Week 3: 15.40%
Week 4: 14.36%
Week 5: 13.49%
Week 6: 11.19%
Week 7: 10.82%

Now, I started the V-Diet yesterday. I’ll probably do it for 2 weeks at most, to get into single digit body-fat.

Here’s my reasoning:

The quicker I get to my ideal BF%, the quicker I can begin my clean bulk.
I don’t plan on going over 10% BF on my bulk, that’s why I want to get to 8-9% BF this month.
After that, I’ll begin eating 3500-4000 cal/day and start WS4SB.

I’m doing the “Destroying Fat” workout by Thibaudeau.
I’m not doing the steady state aerobic exercise because I’m already doing shitload of NEPAs during the day (walking fast, using stairs, etc).

If in the first week I loose more LBM than the 1-2lbs of water I’ll shut the diet down.

Oh, and today I’ll have my first cheat meal already lol. I’m having my 1 year anniversary with my GF, so I’ll have to eat out.
I already planned to have grilled chicken on Outback.
After this meal tonight, I’ll only touch solid food again on next week’s Sunday.

That’s it guys! Wish me luck!

I’ll keep updating this thread.
