Stupid Head Cold...

I hate being sick, there is nothing fun about it. So I have this stupid head cold, can’t breath at all through my nose, usually it’s just one nostral that gets pluged, now it’s both, and coughing all the damn time. I hate this!!! Now I know there is no magic cure for this but I was wondering if any of you folks have come across a certain food or something that seems to speed recovery and or ease symptoms?

I have been trying to increase my intake of fruits and veggies, and I always drink about 5 cups of green tea per day. Also have been popping an extra vitimin C tab, along with getting plenty of the sleep only ZMA can bring. I think I got most the stuff covered but I was just wondering if there is anything else I can do? Thanks to any and all!

You could try getting more sun. I heard it’s good for the immune system.

Sorry to hear that! The only “less than common advice” I have is to keep your blood sugar steady. You don’t need it greatly elevated, but don’t let it drop too low.

Be sure to have some complex CHO’s before bed (although you should already be in bed LOL).

Cheers

Ok, brain fart, what the hell is a CHO?

If this is a recurring problem…chronic, rather than the once or twice a year viral cold… you may actually have sinusitis resulting from allergies. You mention: one nostril, then both, then post-nasal drip cough.

Go to your doc. If the sinusitis is persisting more than 2-3 weeks, get a scrip for Amoxicillin course (7 days). Then, for ongoing relief of the chronic sinusitis, get on Flixonase (or may be called Flonase in the USA) for about 3-6 months.

The key is to differentially diagnose whether it is recurring infection due to incipient allergies or if it is primarily due to the common rhinovirus invasion. Again, see your doc.

I suffered from this very problem in the past two years and it was discovered that allergies were the culprit. The above therapy has worked wonders.

Dude I got the same thing, only thing that ever works for me is two big gatoraides and tons of sleep.

I may do this. I have gotten sick like 5 times over this past spring. I used to never get sick nor have seasonal allergies, now it seems to never go away. Thanks for the input.

Nah, summer finnaly showed up around these parts. Sunny, 80ish, I’m happy…and sunburned.

I agree you should go see your Doctor.

I rarely get sick (knocks on wood), however I am finally getting over a sinus infection. Started out like a bad cold that I just could not kick without the help of some good prescription drugs.

Getting sick five times during the Spring season is a lot and sounds like your body really has not had a chance to fully recover. Go see that Doctor and hopefully they will give you something which will get rid of it for good!

You definitely sound like you never recovered completely.

Try echinacea & goldenseal tincture (health food store) and take colostrum capsules (also health food store). I double the dosage when I’m feeling run down.

You can also look for a homeopathic tincture called Head Cold. I don’t know the brand, but the label is white w/ ‘Head Cold’ in big orange letters.

I wouldn’t do a round of antibiotics until you’ve totally exhausted all natural means first. And if you do choose to take the abx route, DEFINITELY dose yourself with acidophilus - it will rebalance your intestinal flora, thereby assisting in the healing process.

Carbohydrates (carbon, hydrogen, oxygen)

Even though fats could fit into this catogory as well but we’ll let it slide since they are based off a triglyceride backbone.

Echinecea does the trick every single time. I take it right when I very first feel the hint of a cold…If I wait too long, it doesn’t work.

Other things to help not get sick…

Sleep, good amounts of good sleep can do wonders.

Water, it’s amazing what getting enough water can do for all sorts of ailments.

Take two tablespoons of baking soda (you don’t have to measure out an actual tablespoon, just use a big one from the kitchen) in a glass of warm water. Do this once in the morning and once in the afternoon or night for three days.

Oh, you know what else I thought of? For any sinus issues, use a Neti pot. It’s nasal irrigation. Salt water runs through your nostrils and breaks up mucous.

You can add colloidal silver to it, as well, as it speeds the healing process and destroys infection.

For a head cold? I’ve done it to relieve indigestion. It worked! (Visited the bathroom every 15-20 minutes for 3 1/2 hrs!)

Why does it work for a head cold?

I’m not sure why it works. It doesn’t work for everyone, though. ;]

actually i think its the ‘new cold’ thats going around… incapacitated me for a about a week. (Right after i had already taken a week off that fucking bastard).

Anyway I’m still a little sick, but I’m still training now :stuck_out_tongue: I just have to take recovery WAAAAY more seriously.

BTW, whenever a girl says she’s not contagious… she’s LYING.
