I have a mother of a cold. Only my 3rd day in but my head is going to explode and even my teeth hurt.
I’ve been eating chicken soup, lots of water, tea, bread, and scrambled eggs.
I am taking zinc and vitamin C.
I am washing my hands, washing my face, all of that. Is there other suggestions anyone might have?
I have not been to the gym since Wednesday. I know it may be a wussy thing, but first - I hate when sick people come to work and get me sick, or I am shopping and they sneeze on me, I try not to do that to others, and second - I can’t breathe! and I just feel terrible.
I like to take a long hot bath in lots of epsom salt. If nothing else it helps the aching joints feel better, and maybe brings a little peace to the mind.
Hope your felling better.
There are some prety good over the counter medicines to help relieve the sinus pressure.
I like vit. D3 when i’m sick. also, fruit and veg if you’re up to it. make sure you’re eating plenty, fighting off a sickness is pretty taxing on the body. as far as breathing better goes, once you shower, point the shower head directly down or somehow get out of the way of the water and turn it up to full heat. the steam should clear you up temporarily.
I am in the process off heading of a cold before it hits me bad, i have a little chest congestion, and a scratchy throat. I am taking Airborne 3 times a day, as well as a lot of vit C. Today will be my first day back training since the cold started. But i would suggest Airborne, Coldeez, lots of fluids, lots of sleep. It will pass in time.
Look at “Laroyal’s Return to Powerlifting” He has a poliquin recommendation for cols to get them out within a day or two. Can’t htink of what it says off of the top of my head.
Ground-n-Pound, I can’t stop looking at your avatar.
Besides what already has been mentioned you might look into Echinacea, olive leaf, and rhodiola rosea. These are adaptogens and are suppose to help your body deal with stress and supports immune function. Other than this I find it helpful to take hot baths and showers as they act sort of like an artificial fever which is good for getting rid of a cold.
Sambucol, black elderberry extract. Excellent as a preventative but it might still help. Also, take unprocessed extra virgin coconut oil. The monolaurins in EV coconut oil are believed to be anti-viral agents.
fighting one off right now. my go to regimen (almost always beats it in a day or two) is the following:
1 gram of vitamin c every waking hour (about 15 a day)
at least 6,000 IU of vitamin D
as much garlic as possible (bad breath/body odor is an issue, but you should be staying home anyway)
oil of oregano (strong immunostimulator)
at least a gallon of water a day
shiitake mushrooms/ginger (immunostimulators)
REST. stay home. rest up. what would normally take a week or more for people that stupidly and selfishly “fight through it”, can be taken care of completely in a day or two if you rest and do the above.
I upped my water and got a lot of rest. I feel much better. I don’t know what did it or if it was the vitamin C or the chicken soup. I did a spin class tonight without hacking or sneezing on anyone and I was able to breathe through the whole class.
