Strength After a Pec Tear

It has been 5 years since I tore my bicep tendon were it ties into the Pec in the shoulder girdle. I have read a couple of old and new post about pec tears and it just made me relive what happened to me 5 years ago. I too tore my pec by being stupid doing 1 rep max. I wanted to get some feedback on pec tears, and strength recovery from you guys.

Like I said it has been 5 years since I tore my muscle. I went from benching 120 pound dumbells to 15 pounds after 8 week of a layoff. 15 pounds hurt like hell. I did what I shouldn’t have done for 1 year after the injury I severly overtrained, luckily though I never got re injured I just overtrained were it effected me from gaining strength back. Now I use 80 pound dumbells but that is about has heavy as I will go. I never go below my 5 rep max?I feel it is too much risk.

If I cant bench it 5 reps with great form then I consider it too heavy to lift or too much of a risk to lift. I know I am stronger than I allow myself but I rather hold back and be injury free then let my ego get in the way and re injured.

Have any of you guys been througth this. How was your strength after the injury? How long did it take you to get back to normal? How does your muscle (cosmetically look) now after the tear? Do you think I am going about this the right way by never going below my 5 rep max? Thanks guys in advance.

I am confused. Did you tear the muscle or the tendon?

Did you have surgical intervention?

What does the muscle look like now? (Is it bunched up?)

Do you have any pain when training?

I have torn my right pec twice, but they were muscle tears. Answer the questions above and I will give you some thoughts.

Sorry for any confusion. I actually tore my Bicep Tendon where it inserts into the Shoulder Girdle on the outer pec. I hurt it doing bench press…so in reality it is not a true torn pec, but a torn bicep tendon, but it only effects by benching. Bicep curling has never been a problem from day 1.

There is not pain now, maybe once or twice a year a little arhirtis…but no pain. Since i started doing TBT and not overtraining about 3 years I have got some of my strength back…but I am still nervous. Any input guys would be great.
