I’ve been working on chin ups with dip belt with explosive reps it swings like hell. I’m not changing my rep method but any ideas to stop it. I’d really preer not to use my feet so know a good type of dip belt/harness?
Personally, I stopped swinging when I started putting more effort into doing controlled reps, rather than just reps… That doesnt mean you cant be explosive, I certainly am still explosive, but instead of just dropping from the top, try lowering yourself under control (again, under control does not necessarily mean quickly)
If that isnt your issue, then try pinning the weights in between your calves
edit
just to clarify, I am by no means an expert, however, I had the same issue with chinups, pullups and dips, and those are the two things (in combination) that worked for me
maybe a weighted vest?
I run the chain across the belt and then down thru the plate and then back up…this brings the plate up between my knees/thighs and then I just squeeze it with my knees. Or you can just add more weight and it wont swing as much
I slightly bend my knees and use my knees and lower leg to hold the weights in place.
Quit doing “explosive reps!” chinups, that sounds god damn retarded.
Problem solved.
i’m not sure what you mean by explosive reps. are you saying that you are coming down fast and then back up fast?? if so, just explode on the concentric portion and then lower under control and come to a dead stop before you explode again.
i recently started doing pullups after not doing them for about 15 years. the main reason i started doing them was because so many people say that guys “my size” can’t do pullups:) anyway, i’ve been doing them for a little over a month now and have moved up to using weight. tonight i used a 45lb plate for my working sets. i believe that pullups should be done under complete control and through a full ROM.
here’s a vid from tonight. i don’t have any problems with the weight swinging:)
If the chain is long enough you can tuck the weight behind both legs which will secure it pretty good. The only bad thing is it gets really tight on your balls.
DBs are much easier for me, especially when you are using more than 45lbs.
Do them from a dead stop, either from a dead hang or standing.
though i dont really understand the “explosive rep” thing, i think you can just do regular pull ups/ chins wiht added weight first off in your workout and then later on after you a little fatigued do the “explosive rep” pulls/ chins just with BW, or like said before just go get a vest
I don’t really have this problem to a large degree ( I think it’s impossible to avoid it totally) but I have minimal swing just by controlling the negative and lowering to a dead hang, slight pause then explode up and repeat.
I think its easier not to swing with lighter weight too, so maybe try a little less weight and increase the reps a bit.
That’s why I use rack chins, basically.
Just squeeze the plates between your knees to keep them stable. I do the same thing to prevent the weights swinging on weighted dips.
Use a belt with plate(s) - then throw a db or small plates in a backpack and wear that. Makes me go stright up and down-can’t swing even if I wanted to. Plus, a backpack allows you to toss in small plates as you progess vs adding them to the 2 45’s already between your legs. I’m not kidding, you go straight up and down like a piston.
Then, walk over to the dip station and rep out for a prime tri blast - you go straight up and down there too.
^ Why is the dude in your avatar wearing a bathing suit top?
As a guess: because this is a “female” bodybuilder that used more than a little too much juice?

You guessed right. That is not a man.
I am also not sure you can just blame anabolics either because I have seen some freaks in women’s bodybuilding who could pass for men if it weren’t for the breast implants, makeup, and the deep voice with a slight feminine sound to it…and not many can reach this level of cross gender appearance.
A bit late since I have posted this. But I’ve read the replies. Thanks for them. It happens on heavier weights as I ramp them up so it could be sloppyness. So I’ll see about fixing that. Also great ideas about putting weight between knees and the backpack thanks. Those are simple and should definetly work. thanks for the help/tips guys. And good stuff maurader meet awesome sto see a huige guy killing it on the pullups.
lol @ chicks with dicks
@op, Try doing em dead-stop, you can still explode up if not better.
