I want to get one of those belts that you can add a plate to - eg for weighted dips and pull-ups. But I don’t know what they are called.
Let me know if you know the name for them and/or where I could get one.
Thanks

Buy a cheap backpack. Save yourself some money.
It’s called a “Weight Harness” by the way.

They can also be called dip belts
It is called a dip belt. A cheap back pack will not allow you to put a couple 45’s in…unless you enjoy having stuff rip and the weight fall on you.
They can be purchased at a reasonable price on many of the powerlifting sites.
It is a dip belt. I got mine from www.titansupport.com many years ago and it is still in great shape and good to go, costs $29 on their site, look under “other products”.
Just a tip for the future that helped me out, once you can use more than 45 lbs use dumbbells instead of plates with the dip belt, it is much more comfortable.
i went to home depot and bought a length of chain so that i could wrap my waste, a clip that would close it off and a length of clear pipe and it works fine…if you buy a second piece of chain you can make a loop just for holding the plates and it will support a couple hundred pounds (according to the chain manufacturer)…much cheaper than buying a belt…
I just got this belt from APT a couple weeks ago:

I got the nylon version because it’s cheaper and it seems more comfortable. The company ships pretty quick. It got to my place in California in about 2-3 days and they shipped from Virgina.
So far, I like it a lot. I’m not sure what weight the chain is rated for. In the description, it just says it’s “strong”. I’ve done dips with it using an 80# dumbbell and the chain held up fine.
If it’s strictly for dips/pullups, a dip belt is a good, cost effective solution. If you’re looking for a broader range of resistance training, you may want to look into an Xvest. You can carry up to 80lbs of additional weight, in 1lb intervals, on your torso.
Weighted equally front/back, gives you a full range of motion to do everything from dips/pullups to sprints. Just another option, depending on what your training requirements are.
I got a cheap dip belt off ebay, it was Musclez brand. I had to put a new chain and carabiner on the belt part, but other than that it works fine.
Thanks for all the input.
I know the one in the link is expensive, but a dip belt “acessory” can be cheaper than a dip belt–it simply attaches to a regular lifting belt.
Elite Fitness (www.elitefts.com) has three types of them:

You’re free to shop where you want, of course, but I always make it a point to patronize EliteFTS and IronMind (www.ironmind.com), as they are not scammers out to make a quick buck but rather actually care about their products and customers.

I’ll go ahead and sound like a dork. If using a dumbbell, do you just wrap the chain under one of the heads to keep it in place? I’m doing 70 and its a pain in the ass to do it w/ plates.
that is exactly what u do

Thanks. I have gone over to that method. Much better.
I had a post like this a while ago and what I found to work great for me is using a lifting belt and attaching weight to it with the chain from my neck harness. Back pack with straps around your waist and chest work but limits the motoion a bit.

I bought a dip belt for $24 bucks. Backpacks cost damn near the same and they wont hold an 1/8th of the weight without tearing at the seams.
