And about the squat suit and form thing. I have seen 30000 kids my age squat with a close stance with knees going realy far fwards and you know what they all have in common? I out squat them “with a form that shouldnt work without a squat suit” Thats all I realy have to say about that.
Cool, good stuff. I’m not saying it’s not gonna work like. I jsut think that everyone’s completly over reacting to what they see in the WPO and taking their stance out way too wide.
Even at the NERB the majority of the lifters took their stance in somewhat. That tells me that squatting super wide doesn’t work without signifcant gear. Do ya not think?
I’ve actually started doing ultra wide stance squats (think sumo) and have found hte shorter ROM crazy. It’s like I barely have to move to hit depth, but I’m no where near as strong that way. Maybe it will come on, maybe not. I’m doing it to help my sumo pulls and to that end it’s working VERY well.[/quote]
yeah, I dont think super wide squats would be good for raw lifters. The form Im talking about would be Ed coans. Wideish stance knees more or less straight up and goodmorning as much as he has to to keep his knees up. Very powerfull controlled form with not much ROM.
By the way I have always admired your squating form, you werent going that wide but it looked like it is very controlled. Couldnt be much knee drift, and knees not to far fward.
It just looks like the OP was muscleing up the weight and could move alot more with different form.
My brother squated exactly like the OP up until two weeks ago he maxed at about 365-385 with knee wraps and a belt. I got him on a box at the same depth he squats and changed his form and I saw him hit 455 without wraps like he could have tripled it yesterday. In 2 weeks a 100lb gain on his squat without wraps just from changeing his form and doing some low rep workouts.
lol i dunno if you got it last time but…
NeWb, what is your regular max squat? I know you do a lot of box squats and I just wanted to know if you think regular squats for a max or box squats for a max are harder? I wanna start incorporating box squats but I’m not sure, hit me back man.
So yeah I just copied and pasted my question. I just wanna know if box squats for a max or regular squats for a max are harder.
I WILL take your advice newb and try some box squats with different form and see how it goes. This way for me feels very comfortable, and I’ve experiment quite a bit, but I’ll try it out on box squats and see how it goes.
Please answer the question above i sent thoiugh haha, it’d be much appreciated bro. peace
this got me pumped up for my leg workout yesterday, I was wondering how much you weigh and how tall you are? Also do you dl much and how much do you dl? Good strength good form keep it up.

Yeah, sorry about that I didnt see the question. With regular squats I go lower so I would say regular would be harder. If you did both with the exact same depth I think regular would be about the same or easier. I havent been training real low rep latley so my max vs reps might not be that good either
But Il tell you what, next time I squat Il do it without a box and PM you the results. The only thing I can realy tell you right now is when I could do 455 x 2 regular squat I could hit 450 x 2 box squat. So take that for what its worth.
Watch some Ed Coan squat videos, thats the form Im talkin about. make sure your first working set is with a weight you can only do for 3-5 reps and every week or how ever often you squat, twice a week or what ever go for 1-2 more reps with that weight. And make sure you dont tire yourself out on the warm up. Its gotta be either you get the extra rep or you die type squating.
And when you sit down on the box and lean back make sure you lean all the way fward before you try to get off the box.
Give it 3 weeks if you dont see a improvement in weight go back to your regular form. My bro still prefers your form over the form I taught him, he can just move more weight this way.

haha it says in the beginningw of the vid…17 yrs old, 198lbs. - thats my weight. but it’s all good lol. Not sure of how tall I am…perhaps bout 5’9 now? - I’ve only done 500 deadlift sumo…only been practicing deads for 4 months lol. There’s a thread in this section on my deadlifts if you wanna see/more info. Lookin for form help.
Glad the vid got you pumped man!
you don’t look 17 … i bet you can buy beer without any suspicion lol
there are a few guys in our town, who tell stories about power lifting when our country was still occupied by soviets. even tho there was little food, no protein powders, no fancy equipment and very few weighted over 100kg, they were able to squat 180 kilos at 18yo, you were a pussy if you could not do 40 pull ups, bench over 150kilos and so forth and so on.
and, well, you look like one of those guys to me ha ha. well done
haha yeah i get it a lot (that I dont look my age). I can grow a beard already in a week. When I shave my face, the next day I have stubbles everywhere…just like my dad does.
When I was 16 and posted my pics in the Physique and Performance photo’s I was accused of being much older and not many ppl believed me n stuff. I still have those photo’s in my T-Nation. Eventually I think almost everyone believed me n all, which is good lol. Thanks for the compliment lol
