Something Strange with My Body Weight

you can lose 10lbs in 2 days and all of it can be muscle

Ok. :+1:

Only if they chop off my genitals, lol

I would seek immediate medical attention in the instance of the former, and apply to Xavierā€™s school for the gifted in the case of the latter. And get myself checked to see if I perhaps had that specific gene mutation wherein I do not produce enough myostatin.

My weight this year. The trend is up and down, but not nearly as volatile as daily scale weight.

These little blurbs talk about the good kind of Post Workout Inflammation. TC says that 48 hours after a workout you get a lot of inflammation and fluid retention ( plus growth hormone) in the muscles you trained. That seems to line up pretty well with your experiences.

'While long suspected, itā€™s recently become accepted that acute inflammation is essential for muscle growth.

You know those macrophages that march in after an injury occurs? They also march in after a muscle is damaged, only in two waves. The first wave comes soon after muscle fibers are injured and they begin to lyse or dissolve injured muscle fibers. They reach their highest concentration about 24 hours after a workout or muscle injury and their concentration dwindles after about 48 hours.

Then comes a second, Iraq-like ā€œsurgeā€ of non-phagocytic macrophages that bathe the injured muscle fibers in the growth hormone IGF-1, which significantly increases the rate of muscle regeneration."

If I had a client that trained as seldom as you, Iā€™d be encouraging them to get their butt in gear and get back to work to get the results theyā€™re after. Iā€™d also be concerned that they were falling out of love with the process And about to give up on training altogether. Iā€™m glad youā€™re satisfied with your progress, but I canā€™t help but feel you would almost certainly start gaining at a faster rate if you increased your frequency and exercise selection. No pressure, but I think it would work. Youā€™ll be very very sore to start off, but your body will adapt after a week or two. Muscle gain is not a comfortable process. I could probably write you out a whole program if youā€™re interested.

also, we canā€™t ignore Rhabdomyolysis, if someone truly had that much muscle tissue broken down and excreted in a day or two, they be in kidney failure and might not even live.

Yup i trained 2 days ago, i was 218 and today i am 215, after eating and didnā€™t have a bowel movement either. i am gonna guess muscle gain + fat loss. more muscle better metabolism.

To begin with, I am all for HIT, which my posting over the past years will indicate. Also, not that young anymore, more like middle aged these days (when is old?).

No offence, but how about training different modalities in order to reach a certain goal (and prevent ā€œovertrainingā€)?

The balance in between frequency, intensity and volume is in my opinion lost along the way here. Even using HIT, you would benefit from a more varied or regular approach. Itā€™s easy to get stuck in dogma (ā€œI like Mentzer and will stick to his programming ideas, no matter whatā€). Belief can move mountains, even though it may be better to shift beliefs on top of the mountain. Are you still curious and want to learn?

Check out Fortitude Training (Scott Stevenson) for an interesting blend that can be individualized (heck, I did my own two days a week tier one version on this - and made serious gains).

Or - be curious AND different (like me) - by trying out a modern day powerlifting program (each powerlifting workout focusing on one-two major lifts + less explosive work + minor plyometrics) once weekly combined with a HIT gym day and a HIIT/tabata day. It shouldnā€™t work, but it does! Lean bulk someone?

Iā€™m not intentionally trying to be an outlier of sorts. This is my take on how to be able to train more often, and still make progress, as recovery gets slower.

Wasnā€™t Mentzer an explorer (ahead) of his time? They say (John Little) he would have gravitated towards more volume if he were to continue his explorations.

Thanks @Andrewgen_Receptors

Thank you for tagging me. This thread is going to be my weekendā€™s entertainment.

Are you suggesting that in a period of 2 days, you had a 3lb fluctuation in weight that was anything other than fluid/glycogen?

ā€œGain Pounds of Muscle and Lose Pounds of Fat in Just Days!ā€ would be a sweet advertisement for a program/diet/supplement, especially if you include a Furious Pete Style insane before and after comparison photo

Are you saying Arhur Jones didnā€™t know what he was talking about?

scott guy looks gross and is also full of dirty steroids. You are shilling Fortitude Training (Scott Stevenson)
im not even going to waste one minute with your nonsense lies. John little did not say that either. The direction of progress has been lower volume, higher intensity. Stop the lies.

What am I lying about? Mike Mentzer was also on ā€œdirty steroidsā€, so thatā€™s a truly useless argument in this discussion.

Also, Iā€™m not shilling Fortitude Training, it just worked well for me. As has 5/3/1 and Mountain Dog Training. Hell, Heavy Duty worked for me for a while and taught me the value of training to failure and progressive overload.
