Thanks gents!
If only I hadn’t built the house I just sold less than a year ago…
We couldn’t even find builders though. None of them are willing to even break ground until next spring.

We couldn’t even find builders though. None of them are willing to even break ground until next spring.
We’ve had plans for an extension for over a year without any builders wanting to do it. Crazy market at the moment.
So how’s the training going?
Eh. It’s going. I’ve been a turd but been back on the last few days
By way of some update, I’m getting the workouts in; I’m just not really having a ton of fun with it right now.
Good news: I’m crazy sore!
Relatable. I’m thinking about later on and going “If I do, it’s going to be a slugfest.”.
But who doesn’t love one of those!?!
Everything is just a slog right now.
How are you feeling?
Ups and downs. Really happy about finding a new protein that I like. Casien. Maybe it’s individual physiology, but whey has always been just meh. Getting stronger and the wife even noticed some differences.
But there are still bouts of exhaustion after any given exercise session.
I thought that thread on diuretics was interesting. Now there’s something I’m all too familiar with.
Have you seen TC’s new article on the front page? Very interesting. I don’t know if he just keeps his ear to the ground or if it’s a “great minds” thing, but that really grabbed my attention.
Same! I thought about you when I read it.
Do you find the diuretics hurt your creatinine clearance number? I’m getting worried about mine. Like what’s going to fail first at this point
Yeah! That exchange we had a few post back came to mind, and a few other conversations I’ve had in the past few months along the same lines.
I honestly don’t know. I’ve never had that checked, other than that it would be part of a metabolic panel (blood) which have all come back like startlingly perfect. As one doc. put it “Amazing. Unbelievable. I wish mine looked like that!”.
Hmm. I’ll run this past my one buddy. It might take a week or so… He’s a nephrology RN and ran a dialysis clinic for a few years among other things. Very good person all around.
I know what will fail first in my case, but that doesn’t mean I should remain uninformed of other possible complications.
That’s actually pretty good. The heart problems tend to affect kidney function from what I know. That’s awesome that you’re holding up there.
I’m honestly starting to think a large part of my poor bloodwork is from the diuretic I’m on, which was based on a high blood pressure reading at a single PCP visit. To be fair, it was a very high reading. That’s been the primary variable between my last draw and this recent one, though, and everything that could be negatively affected by dehydration (like @anna_5588 pointed out) was.
I don’t love this PCP. He’s not really an educator. It’s more if A, then B. I see my cardiologist for that follow-up in a couple weeks and then we’ll see. After that, I’m moving, but this company has already taken my medical records and has someone standing by to transfer me to a new PCP/ cardio as soon as I tell them. That’s pretty cool.
Do you think everything feels like a slog because of your bloodwork (just health in general) or because you’re just not really enjoying the routine?
It’s a good question. I think one begets the other. I don’t know if I can make this make sense, because it doesn’t even make sense in my head.
I’m definitely tired of doing Meadows stuff. Not because it’s not awesome, but because it’s been 90% of my training for years. I’m just bored.
I don’t think I “feel” any of the medical concerns. It’s just something that’s in my head so I know I have to keep my minder on that.
Because of that, I’ve been doing boring stuff - like purposefully underrating protein, lots of steady state cardio, nothing heavy (basically if it’s heavy enough I have to hold my air hard, I stop). I’m further frustrated because none of that has made any difference in the labs.
Because I’m doing the boring stuff, my focus isn’t in the lifting. So then I’m further bored with something that is already boring.
I basically keep doing it because I’ve lost the ability to think for myself and going to the gym > not going to the gym. Really I just need to switch things up and get on with my life and probably stop stressing about the bloodwork too - so long as I’m doing cardio and not eating/ drinking like a fool, the doing all the things that make you lose muscle don’t seem to have helped.
Anyway, I promise I’m not as whiny and entitled as all this reads. I’m just not having the time of my life when I walk into the gym. I still get to go to a gym everyday and use all my limbs.
Well I’m sorry that you’re having these issues with your health and that it seems to be mentally taking a toll on you and your training. I hope you’re able to find peace and enjoyment in your training again, whether that be through a new routine or just a renewed mindset! I don’t think any program is immune to boredom after a long enough time, it’s probably just time soon to mix things up, maybe drastically!
But you’re jacked as hell so I have no doubt you’ll figure everything out and get back to a point of enjoyment and push beyond what you thought possible. You didn’t get where you are without some form of self-regulation and knowing what you’re doing, so I’m sure I’m not saying anything here you don’t already know! But I’m in your corner brother.
Thanks man. I really appreciate it.
To your point - I’m just bored. I’ll pick something new to do eventually. For now… at least I’m going!
You’re going through a really tough time- give yourself a break!
I appreciate it, but I’m really not. Life is fine. I’m just being a little whiny. I promise I’m not sitting around being depressed all day. Mostly I just don’t feel like doing my workouts - I know we’ve all been there
Hey just check out how excited you were about the program back in Bigger, Stronger, Leaner! Maybe you’ll be able to look back and think shot the things that got you excited about it and rekindle that same excitement for this very program and could help restore motivation at least long enough to keep you excited until you’ve completed it! Your passionate post sure made me want to do it!
Good point! I’ll at least get through it
I get that, you’re not whiny IMO though
yep…
Sorry for the long pause. Kid stuff & whatnot.
I’d be dubious about that too then. I’ve seen my own swing pretty widely in single instance and return its historical baseline shortly after, like between the start & finish of a rehab session. Even simple things like box breathing have brought it and hr down right before the nurses eyes.
I hear that. The practice I go to has been a revolving door of people that don’t seem to enjoy the practice of medicine. Sounds harsh, but other MDs I’ve seen seemed more enthusiastic. The cardiologist is awesome. Doesn’t let me high five him on the o.r. table, but I don’t blame him. ![]()
