Been doing my cardio and did my “pump” days. I’m just not good on logging this.
Had a follow-up Friday and some of my blood work is worse than it was 6 months ago, though I’ve been following directions. My blood pressure was in better check, but nothing else was.
I’m starting to wonder if there’s something inherently cardiovascular-unfriendly about bodybuilding training? I know the popular answer for their health woes is they’re on drugs and compete, but I don’t have that scenario. Or maybe I’m just getting older and want there to be another answer.
Anyway, we’re changing med doses a little and doubling down on diet a little and we’ll see what the bloods look like in 90 days.
Thanks man. I hope so too. We’re not at tragic numbers yet, but the trends are in the wrong direction and we don’t have a smoking gun. I’m sure we’ll figure it out. Thanks!
Sorry to hear that dude. Does more traditional cardio help things? I usually do most isolation work with only 1 minute or less rest which helps on the cardio side of things but its nothing compared to a session of sprints of something like that.
It’s a good question. I’ve been doing at least half an hour of steady state daily since October. My blood pressure has come down, but I also started medicine then so that’s likely the key variable. I just have some thick blood! Maybe something a little higher intensity could help; I really don’t know.
Thanks. I don’t mean to imply I’m in crisis mode; I just need to get it under control.
Ironically, in Meadows’ Facebook group, someone published an out-of-range hemoglobin number. A lot or folks told him “don’t worry about it.” I can’t stand that. How would you know? Your doctor is your doctor.
I’ve wondered some times about that same possibility of cause or correlation.
It’s probably pretty common, but I never even looked until something very bad happened, so my reference point began at the e.r. during a stemi. But my lipids were still better then according to the ratios and stuff than they are now after it’s all been said & done.
I start repatha today after I pick it up at the pharmacy though, so I can let you know how that goes if you’re interested.
I’m sorry - what other variables do you mean? I made the conversation confusing because I threw out twelve things.
I’m definitely interested; please do.
My lipids and creatinine clearance got worse since last blood draw, although my diet is lower-fat and I’m drinking ~twice as much water. I believe my blood pressure medication may be a contributor, as part of it is a diuretic.
Did you train hard or were really stressed before the blood draw? Intense exercise or stress + fasting before blood draw can screw with creatinine, blood glucose, cholesterol levels and inflammatory markers
I was certainly fasted longer than normal - we did this in the afternoon and typically they’re in the morning.
My training has pretty much been Meadows’ stuff for years, so that’s been a constant. I don’t train the morning of blood draws, so I don’t know that I can blame it.
I don’t want to over-justify, though. I’m going to try what he says and then we’ll check again in 90 days. At that point I’ll have moved and be finding a new PCP for another opinion anyway.
Again, it’s not like it’s straight to the ER or anything. I do seem to have a bit of a trend with blood numbers and echo that’s not ideal so I want to clean it up if I can.
That something about weight training might be cardiovascularly unfriendly.
I’m on one diuretic, Lasix, and one that also triggers a diuretic effect through different mechanisms - Diovan.
I’m actually a bit nervous. I got a prescription for Repatha filled today for self administration. Once in, it isn’t coming back out, side effects or bad reactions be damned.
Got it! It definitely seems like there’s something going on. Maybe even certain styles of lifting? There’s certainly enough data to support resistance training for longevity, though. Maybe the poison is in the dose.
Good luck! I wasn’t familiar with that drug. I had to read up. It seems like it has a good profile, but I can definitely understand being a little nervous.
Congrats on the new house! Even though it’s not so great a market to buy in, imagine building a hoise a couple months ago in peak lumber prices only to have them almost back to normal now now that would be a hard pill to swallow.
