Exactly. My intake so far has been 10 whole eggs and 2 protein shakes. I will be getting a pound of beef and rice down in about 20 minutes (give or take).
How does this sound like “eat all meals at Micky D’s”?
People can’t be this dumb.
My goal is to gain as much muscle as possible. It is NOT to worry so much about body fat that I diet down if I lose an ab. If I gain a little fat, FINE. Who the fuck cares if my waist went up a little if my arms, back, chest, shoulders and legs all grew much more?
Why does this sound like “get fat”?
Because my goal is to gain the most muscle possible, if I feel like eating a fucking hamburger and I am gaining muscle well and not just getting fat, then I will eat the damned hamburger when trying to gain more size.
If you actually need this to be more complicated than that, this may not be for you.
Some of us have faster metabolisms than others and/or need more food to make progress…so much so that trying to get all of that from chicken breasts and nuts would be unlikely unless eating was our only job.
Something else that hasn’t been brought up but I think is important is the fact that after a gaining a large amount of muscle and maintaining it (i.e. don’t try to cut right after a bulk), dieting down is going to be a lot easier because of the increased muscle/metabolism. This especially should be a major point for the people who used to be fat and dieted down and are afraid to bulk - yes you will carry more bodyfat during a bulk, but when the time comes to diet again it will be easier to loose the fat assuming you did gain muscle and weren’t stupid about the bulk.

Yes X, people can be and are this dumb. That’s why you see all these freakin’ diet and exercise gimmicks being sold on infomercials.
Too many people take the term ‘bulk’ far too literally. They don’t bother to do any research on nutrition, and have no idea of what they should be eating at their own level of training.
It’s like they wake up one morning, decide to go on a bulk and proceed to stuff their faces for the next few months. At the end of it all they wonder what went wrong.
Bulking isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ kind of deal. It is highly individualized - a ‘bulk’ for an underfed teenager might be just eating like a normal human being.
A ‘proper’ bulk is really just a matter of research and common sense. Even that seems to be beyond some people…

…just to add to that, if you are the type who needs a fucking formula or a math problem to understand what is meant here, this is NOT for you.
If you can’t think for yourself how to act if you are NOT gaining muscle and are simply gaining fat, this is NOT for you.
If you are trying to gain muscle mass to a large degree but think everyone can do this at 6% body fat…thus causing you to never gain any muscle because you won’t listen to your own body, this IS NOT FUCKING FOR YOU.
Common sense isn’t dead. They just didn’t pass any out to most of these people.

Agreed-- certainly not the goal. However, I would add that as far as trying to gain mass, I’d rather be wrong on the ‘bit too heavy’ side than the ‘minimal or no real gains’ side of the results…

ME TOO.
I’ll take a little extra body fat every single time if it comes with “an inch on my biceps”. I can diet down later. It takes YEARS to gain 5" on your arms and I don’t see the “must keep abs” crowd doing anything like that.

Very cool. When you posted info. on Leroy just now I cruised around his website and found priceless photos of him and Arnold and the gang. He seems to be doing well now but I feel sorry for him that his career was cut. Still a badass.
Shugart would have you believe you’re a worthless human being and an object of ridicule if you get above 10% bodyfat, but his psychological issues on the matter are on full display every time he opens his mouth - his articles reveal a lot about his fat phobia and other self-esteem issues.
That said, this can’t be ignored - “Want to know the fastest way to walk around at 250 ripped–THE ABSOLUTELY G’DAMN FASTEST WAY TO GET THERE? TAKE 2 YEARS AND EAT HUGE AMOUNTS OF FOOD, AND TRAIN WITH BRUTALLY HEAVY WEIGHTS, AND BECOME A BIG FAT OFFENSIVE LINEMAN LOOKING GUY AT 330LBS…AND NO IT WONT BE PRETTY…AT ALL. MOST OF ALL DONT DO ANYTHING THAT COULD POSSIBLY EVEN IMPEDE THE SLIGHTEST IN MUSCLE MASS GAIN.”
Do you really equate a lifelong couch potato at 25% bodyfat with a hard training BB at 25% bf? Do you really? Because they are two very fucking different things.
The point is that eating a burger is not an issue, eating real food in sizeable portions is not an issue. When the time comes to lean out, then by all means have a shake instead of a big whole food meal, and cut back your calories & carbs - no doubt. But, do not try to walk around at 6% bf your entire life living on dry tuna and chemicals. Don’t be afraid to eat real food and don’t be afraid to gain some BF when you’re looking to gain large amounts of LBM…

With all due respect, you guys care far too much about what other people think. Convincing others that what you’re doing is “right” is just a waste of energy and time.
When 170 lb guy pipes up and says he doesn’t do it because he’s afraid he’ll get too fat then that’s his business. He might be perfectly happy being average size with ripped abz. Or he might wake up 10 years from now and weigh 175 lbs and think he wasted a decade of time and effort. Either way, it doesn’t (and shouldn’t) affect you personally.
Throw the information out there and people who get it will listen. Some will get it. Some won’t. Move on.
Regarding body fat, I feel everyone has to find their comfort zone. That means the minimal amount of fat needed to create the most muscle gains. And this is something I feel the body does for us . . . we just need to listen. By this I mean being sensitive to your needs (adding in new foods and seeing if the new intake justifies strength gains seen in the gym for example).
And this may be on a distant tangent but in terms of knowing how to listen to your body . . . I used to get annoyed when I read interviews in the past and the bodybuilder answers some question with “I listen to my body.” I came to the conclusion that it is not something you learn through how much you read but rather allowing the process to take you over. I came to realize that when I’m supposed to know how to listen to my body, I’ll simply be aware of that. And I did when I no longer had to ask myself “Can I listen to my body now”? Whenever the question is posed to yourself, the answer to me is always no until you just find yourself not asking that question anymore. God I hope that makes sense haha. Sorry if this is on a hijack.
Also I’m somewhat impressed that a karate ninja isn’t coming out from under his bed in the past few pages to defend the “abzsss for lyfe” crowd.

Last year I bulked on the “Eat everything in site” diet. I bulked up a good bit gained a ton of fat though. So I figured that I would diet down and get real lean so, my next bulk would be more effective.
I will never make this mistake again so, now i am doing a clean bulk and it is working great. I am not as lean as before but I am keeping a lot of definition and striations being up 15lbs over two months. I hate when people try to say its impossible to clean bulk and be effective. If your eating 4,000cals a day wouldn’t it be better if it was from quality foods instead of crap. Why dont people try eating nuts, nut butter, avocados, various oils (i just pour them in protein shakes) that is an extremely easy way to increase cals. IF people are afraid of gaining weight back why dont they start with a clean bulk. A caloric surplus is a caloric surplus no matter how you dice it, I would just rather have my surplus come from relatively clean foods…
Who the fuck said anything about eating taco bell 6 meals a day?
I just don’t understand the mental state someone has to be in to think “eat with gaining muscle as the main priority” equals the same as “get fat as fuck”.
NO ONE has written that the goal is to get fat.
NO ONE has written that they eat fucking Taco Bell 6 times a day.
So why the hell are these comments popping up like someone actually did write that?[/quote]
Well before everyone has a heart attack I felt misinformed. I never said that any of your goals or mine were to get “fat as F$ck”. I see people running around the forums coming up with excuses for eating like Sh!t. And some people claim its impossoble to get the right amount of calories in without eating complete crap all day, and i was just stating that, that is false.

It’s been quieter for some reason since that last Shugart thread.

This is exactly what i was trying to convey, it came our wrong however!!!

Even that needs to be put into context. If some 17 year old kid who is involved in sports after school, is extremely active and has a fast metabolism is trying to gain the most muscle possible, could you list for me the reasons why he should avoid a fucking taco or 12.

Actually, I couldn’t give a shit what anyone else thinks. I’m enjoying a discussion with like minded people - that’s it.
If anyone wants to take something useful from the thread, great. Other than that I don’t give a fuck…
