Shoulder Strength?

hey, I don’t actually take part in any type of martial art although I’d like to take part in some kind of grappling or wrestling.

I feel my question would be best answered here seing as there are so many fighters and martial artists on this board who seem to know there stuff.

Whenever I grapple or wrestle or just plain old rough house for fun, I always twinge my shoulder and it always happens if I get into this position >>>

I think its a strength and weight thing, cause I’m a pretty light guy and whenever I rough house it’s always with bigger and heavier people .

I don’t know if there is any specific exercises but what exercises would you suggest to strenghten my shoulders to be able to take and produce force in that kind of position? its alost like I have no leverage.

Thanks

Not quite sure what you’re asking here. Getting stronger shoulders is one thing that’s easily remedied - do military presses until you’re fuckin dead, and you’ll have some strong ass shoulders.

But when you say “twinge,” you’re going to have to elaborate, because that’s going to become more prehab-ish.

In a nut shell…

  1. rough house more. lifting weights is lifting weights. But if you want to get better at something, do that particular task and you will get stronger at what you do. Theres a reason why modern UFC fighters don’t look like body builders anymore.

  2. Do compound lifts, you need to learn to handle heavy loads and coordinate your muscles together.

when did ufc fighters ever look like bodybuilders? if anything, they are even more jacked than they were just 5 years ago.

anyways TS, its probably your rotator cuff. get off the bench and start doing some push ups
finding a trainer would help
