If anybody has any pearls of wisdom please let me know. About a 1.5 years ago I dislocated my shoulder in two places and since then have had problems with horizontal pushing motions (bench), but my vertical pushing strength was not affected as much. Does anyone know of any exercises specific to strengthening this area? My bench went from 425 to 285 and is stuck. Thanks fellas.
I’m in the same boat as you my friend.

My situation was different but yet similar. I had a dick head athletic trainer that said to strengthen my shoulder after I complained of sublaxation. Well, no one helped me strengthen them so I did it on my own except I did nothing but presses and only lat pulldown for back if that. It got a little better but I experienced subluxation on a regular basis. Being an athlete I fought my through it like an idiot.
But I learned more in college and my ex phys degree helped me understand the shoulder a lot more. Now I do a wesisde type workout, I have my ME upper body days but that is mostly board pressing and mostly back work. I do have anterior raising exercise and triceps stuff but I focus more on the upper back with lots of different pulling motions, and I also do the buchberger program before I workout. The other upperbody day is more a repetition type bench workout folled by again, more back stuff and more rotator cuff stuff. My shoulders are weak so I also do a lot of raises.
ART. Find an Active Release Therapy practicioner in your area. You can probably find information on ART if you search this site. I dislocated my shoulder playing football and then trashed it benching. I hurt for over 8 years. Couldn’t swim, couldn’t bench without feeling like a hot poker was being stuck in my shoulder. I spent
about 3-4 visits with and ART practicioner and I am good as new. I go every 6 months for a tune up. I will tell you this it was one of the most painful experiences of my life, but after all the scar tissue was ripped out I was like a new man. I bench more now that I ever did and I can knock out 1000yds. in the pool pain free.
Thanks for the help. I’ll see if i can find any ART practitioners in my area.
