Shoulder Issues

I am experiencing pain in my real delt, trap, underarm, midd back area near my left shoulder. My pressing numbers have gone to shit and this has got me completely depressed. I cant even do declines without pain. I dont press like an idiot. Shoulder blades retracted, tightness is their, etc, etc.

Another thing Ive noticed while pressing is that the plates slide away from the bar on my left side. While not lifting I also have slight numbness/pain in the same area. My trap on my left side is bigger even though I am right handed. It seems like my shoulder is just hanging off. Any help please? Will provide more detail if need be but dont want to type a whole page if no one is even going to read it lol…

Maybe try going with DBs for a while until you can get it resolved? Might help iron out any strength imbalance that could be causing the problem and you can experiment with different grips for less stress on your shoulders like keeping them more neutral as opposed to full pronation as with BB bench.

I have had a similar issue. I tried to work through it at first and made the situation worse. Eventually my neck on the left side was involved. It was determined that it was a scapula injury. The inflammation was compressing nerves; causing the numbness and loss of strength. IF you have this injury, it is frequently a warning sign that something else is going on in the shoulder region.

You should see a doctor. I went to a physiatrist.

So extra facepulls, rear delt work etc wouldnt balance things out huh? Ive also noticed that my left lat is smaller then my right?

sounds like it could be an acromion issue or some kind of impingment. what type of pushing movements cause the pain? a lot of people with this problem are relatively pain free when pressing on an incline. dont know why.

I’m having the same issues. I can do everything but pressing movements. I went to the doctor and he said that I might have either torn or somewhat injured rotator cuff. He said to cease all movements that aggravate it, ice it two - three times/day, and take naprosyn (he gave me a perscription for Naproxen but you don’t need it, just get some Aleve).

Well, I have been doing that but unfortunately had to move this past weekend which aggravated it, but I will continue to do what he said and hope for the best.

I’ve had the shoulder impingment before and am having it again. The first time around it totally depressed me not being able to be the beast I know I could be. I eventually saw a chiropractor who made an adjustment and this helped solved the problem in a couple of visits. One year later I’m having a similar problem, but with the experience I am attacking the pain.

First off my injury was the result of many overhead throwing sports. I was lifting, but didn’t have the pain until I was playing a lot of basketball, volleyball, swimming, and football. These sports aggravated the pain and would prevent me from lifting, so I am laying off the pick-up games for now. Icing the area 3 times a day plus taking a lot of Curcummin. In the past I took Cissus Quadrangularis also, which I believed helped. I’m back to doing Power Cleans, pull-ups, the only exercise that has given me issues is the barbell bench, which I switched to a much narrower grip to help alleviate the pain. I agree with using dumbbells and going neutral on some presses.

I would go see a doctor to rule out structural damage. I think I am dealing with inflammation at this point mainly so ice it after your workouts and increase your intake of fatty acids. I’ve also purposely been using my healthy side to get canned goods off of top shelfs and move items I would usually use my right side for, the idea is to give the right a little break from everyday activities to combat the inflammation.

Good luck

thanks for the advice. unfortunetly the doctor and extra supplement thing is out of the question. i do agree that over head throwing sports might be a big part of it. im a pitcher. i think strengthening my rear delts should solve the issue and i dont think i will be going more then an inch or two wider then shoulder width on any pressing movements anymore. and im pressing with a thumbless grip which has helped a ton. fuck injuries !
