Shogun vs. Bones

Shogun is good no question, and has beaten a lot of really good fighters. But he has his problems. I watched as he barely won a decision against an ancient overly tired one dimensional Mark Coleman. Then I watched once again as Forrest Griffin choked him out. Do any of you realize what Jones would do to Griffin or Coleman? He lost a 5 round decision to Machida (yeah it was a bad decision)but it still took him 5 rounds. To his credit he did come back with a KO against Machida. I do respect Shogun but he’s out of his league against John Bones Jones!

Shogun represents the old guard, not because of age, but because of fighting style and how he trains. Jones is the new breed of fighter. He brings an athleticism to the game that is practically unequalled. He is one of the first mma fighters who could have been involved in other sports at a high level. I think his training is superior to Shoguns as well. Jones is faster, smarter, has far better grappling, is much larger, in far better condition. And he can transition better than any fighter that I’ve ever seen at his weight class. I think that most people will be surprised at how easily he defeats Shogun. I predict a Jones win by referee stoppage. Certainly if Shogun is to win it must happen early as he will fade unable to keep up with Jones pace.

Everybody knows where I stand, as usual. Those of you who are sitting on the fence I’d love to see you come down on one side or the other, it makes it more interesting that way.

Hey thanks man.

After my brilliant call on the Lesnar/Velesquez fight I think I was due. Funny how a few guys shoved that one in my face but not too many are quick to give credit around here.

Well since nobody else is about to give me any credit. Fuckers.

LOL, kudos to you my friend, great call.

Did it look like Jones backed off after he had Shogun hurt in the first round? Or, am I off on that observation?

Hell, yes! I think the Barbosa vs. Njokuani fight will more exciting than the main event. This will probably be the closest to a muay thai fight in UFC than any other fight I can remember.

In fact…I will give my bet to this being Fight of the Night. [/quote]

I at least call this one…was a great fight. I thought Njokuani had the edge to get the decision…but oh well…I am pleased. Hopefully a rematch happens in near future.

I know it this is off topic but I was really impressed with Miller. He looked awesome.

Alright ZEB, you get full credit on the pick, Khaine also. I was wrong. I thought Shogun would be the one to derail Jones.

Fuckin right.

I interpreted that as him ‘resetting’, as in conciously choosing to continue following his game plan instead of getting caught up in the moment and starting to headhunt as soon as he saw Shogun was on wobbly legs. I thought it showed maturity and probably assisted him in winning in such a convincing fashion.

To follow up what Khaine stated, I think he was fighting the adrenaline dump…he got a little excited when he knew he had Shogun hurt. He didn’t want to fall victim to lactic acidosis…lol. I think it did hit him a little bit towards end of Round 1.

He’s looked good and been fun to watch his last couple of fights.

Make that two adrenaline dumps! Have you guys ever fought a tournament event? Having more than one fight in a night is draining. Bones subued a theif hours before his fight outside in the park. He was meditating and heard a lady scream for her bag and he gave chase to the guy, leg kicked him got him down and leg locked him until police came. Irrespective of your experience in fighting, that drains you as adrenaline is dumped into your body for a real life dangerous situation. Then against shogun I think this is what affected him more.
SHoguns conditioning has nothing to do with it and I am sure he was fit but are you guys serious? Look at the leverage bones got with the first knee to the right side of his ribs… I reckon he broke something as well as sucked the life out of him then the big kick to the head following it was enough to rattle him good. From then on he was a sitting duck and good on him for having the heart to continue.

I thought the bardosa fight could have gone either way. 1st round bardosa easy, second to Njokuani and third was close and perhaps that spinning kick at the end coupled with a the couple of take downs through the fight might have put him over as he displayed a little more mma than just stand up.

I would have loved to see bardosa continue the same into round 2 and 3 as he did in 1 but oh well.

Yeah, he is one of the most game fighters out there right now, IMO. High octane for sure.

They (Jones, Jackson, and another Coach) saw a guy breaking into a car, so they chased him down. Jones was about to meditate, and it did not involve a lady.

That’s not what Dana said live, but hell who knows.

According to this, Jones caught him and Jackson held him down.

Jones vs Silva anyone?
