Shogun is good no question, and has beaten a lot of really good fighters. But he has his problems. I watched as he barely won a decision against an ancient overly tired one dimensional Mark Coleman. Then I watched once again as Forrest Griffin choked him out. Do any of you realize what Jones would do to Griffin or Coleman? He lost a 5 round decision to Machida (yeah it was a bad decision)but it still took him 5 rounds. To his credit he did come back with a KO against Machida. I do respect Shogun but he’s out of his league against John Bones Jones!

Shogun represents the old guard, not because of age, but because of fighting style and how he trains. Jones is the new breed of fighter. He brings an athleticism to the game that is practically unequalled. He is one of the first mma fighters who could have been involved in other sports at a high level. I think his training is superior to Shoguns as well. Jones is faster, smarter, has far better grappling, is much larger, in far better condition. And he can transition better than any fighter that I’ve ever seen at his weight class. I think that most people will be surprised at how easily he defeats Shogun. I predict a Jones win by referee stoppage. Certainly if Shogun is to win it must happen early as he will fade unable to keep up with Jones pace.

Everybody knows where I stand, as usual. Those of you who are sitting on the fence I’d love to see you come down on one side or the other, it makes it more interesting that way.

Honestly, the whole argument that “this fighter beat this fighter so this fighter should definitely come out on top” is kind of pointless. Jon Fitch stopped Thiago Silva twice while GSP only got a decision, but GSP still manhandled Fitch. Rampage lost to Griffin, but Griffin got destroyed by Silva. Twenty bucks says that Rampage would put up a much better fight against Silva. Chael Sonnen lost to Damien Mia, but Sonnen beat up on Silva while Mia just decided to lay on his back against Silva. Damn dude when did Fitch and GSP fight at LHW? ALVES ALVES THIAGO ALVES PITBULL ALVES

Anybody know who this guy he is picking up at around 38 seconds? That guy looks like a monster

Looks like Jair Sorriso, the most impressive is that he is a LHW at this size.[/quote]

Thanks! I googled him and Jair “Sorriso” Goncalves came up. I can honestly say I have never heard of him.

Hell, yes! I think the Barbosa vs. Njokuani fight will more exciting than the main event. This will probably be the closest to a muay thai fight in UFC than any other fight I can remember.

In fact…I will give my bet to this being Fight of the Night.

Oh…and as much as I like Barbosa…gotta go with Saekson and TX guy in Njokuani.

he definitely is devasating. Will be good to see if Bardosa can meet him in the middle as Njokuani has the ability to be just as devastating.

Expect a big upset tonight…

Jones to win…

Jones win by spinning elbow to suplex to ground and pound to referee stoppage. lol

I got Jones in an upset, and FABER to take it.

Actually that’s not an upset he is the odds on favorite to beat Shogun.

Well, now I feel stupid.

That fight was sad.

I really wasn’t pulling for either fighter: I wanted a good fight.

But man, Shogun got demolished.

Cro-Crop got demolished too… and Fedor not long ago… it seems the hold-overs from PRIDE days are really on their way out…

I’m unsure what fight you watched, but CroCop did not get “demolished.” He was winning, until he got caught. It was Schaub who was getting tooled. I’ll agree that CC should probably go ahead and retire, as he is definitely not the same fighter he was in Pride.

I knew Bones was going to embarrass Shogun. Rashad will get some, as well. While he’s a bit slicker than Bader, they are pretty similar. Same for Hamill. I loved the way Bones handled the question of Rashad as well. That is going to be an entertaining fight.

Who else enjoyed the preview/montage for GSP vs. Shields!?! That was extremely well done.

Easy mistake, especially with all the Thiagos and Silvas in the UFC.

The Rashad fight is super interesting, especially because they were training partners not too long ago, really only a matter of months. I think a quick pressure fighter with a solid wrestling base gives Jones the most problems, how else do you deal with the length and strength? Rashad has all the attributes needed quick, solid hands, good wrestling (apparently better bjj than people think as well)

will he train at Grudge for this one?

DRAMA!!!

Well done Bones. Made me 300 bucks richer. Ha!

And wtf with Shogun’s conditionning?? It sucked. So painful to watch…he looked so out of shape, gased within the first round… Jones’ punishing Knees and elbows slowed him down but come on! Was he even ready for that fight?

What is there left to say. Guess my preview failed more than ever. Shogun didn’t look like he was in the best shape of his life the way he just gassed the fuck out, but you can’t take anything away from Jones because of that because we knew for sure that taking the fight on that short notice he wasn’t going to be 100% either. I’m just sad as ever that a great fighter’s carrier is getting fucked up like that by a bloody series of knee injuries.

I would’ve loved to see how Bones would’ve handled eating some of Shogun’s leg kicks early on, don’t know if the knees played a role in it and thats why he wasn’t throwing as much low kicks or if he was just afraid to get taken down (like he did when he threw the 1st one) but later the fight went on I guess it got pretty certain that trying to win Bones in a boxing match wasn’t going to do it… Still, Bones came out and tooled the fuck out of Shogun, made him look like any of the previous opponents he murdered and deserves to walk around with that belt. Honestly, I can’t see anyone taking that belt away from him in a while, only advantage I see Evans having is the fact that he has sparred and rolled with Jones, so he has some inside information about his weaknesses and openings, but Bones is evolving so fast, getting better with every fight, that I don’t think its going to matter for a shit. Bones is going to demolish Rashad, and after that fuck up who ever decides to sign up for a slaughter. I hope Jackson ain’t going to turn him into another GSP but let him play his game, because if he did it would totally destroy my interest in LHW…

It was nice to see CC put up a fight, but it still was a pretty even fight against a fighter who doesn’t even make top 10 and the outcome really highlights that his time has come to retire. He just isn’t the same fighter anymore, if he wants to continue I hope he at least tries to mix shit up and maybe go down to 205, don’t know how his body would react to it at this age and if he would have any more success that way either but if he wants to actually get his carrier going again he should try something. If he doesn’t, well I hope Joe Silva and DFW can at least put up some legend vs. legend matchups just for the sake of good old times, CC vs. Nog, CC vs. Fedor (if they can get him on board) etc…

Jim Miller should get himself a nr 1 contender fight already. Man has been putting people to pieces and put up yet another entertaining fight, even though I was a bit disappointed with the amount of punches not landed in that fight.

Was a solid card, but left me really sad anyways… Hope Shogun can get back on track and on another title run.

Reminded me of the last time he came back from long layoff because of knee surgery…

Also…Bones kind of reverted back to some of his early fights when he seemed to gas real quick himself. He was dead in the last half of Round 1…but I think a lot of that was adrenaline, pressure. Just wasn’t as obvious because Shogun had an empty gas tank.
