Fight of the year!
Yep…that was some Spartacus vs Crixus shit…lol.
Was a damn good fight! People give GSP a lot of shit for not finishing fights, but I don’t think he can be blamed in this one. Condit was just damn tough. GSP roughed him up and controlled him pretty impressively though.
But given the brief trouble Condit did put him in with that head kick, I couldn’t help but think that an even taller, rangier, FAR better striker in Anderson Silva might just put a whoopin’ on Georges. Georges would of course have to follow Chael Sonnen’s blueprint and try to wrestle-fuck Anderson, and he does have better BJJ than Chael, but . . . I don’t know if he can handle Anderson.
I was right about the hands dropping in the other GSP thread. If you watch the replay of the kick, GSP is in the process of dropping his hands when Condit throws that kick and hits him in the head. After every combo, GSP would drop his hands, sometimes down to his solar plexus and he’d usually raise them up before attacking, which lets you know when he’s attacking and when he’s not ready to attack. Condit would sometimes connect with punches as GSP was dropping his hands after throwing a combo.
That’s probably the key to beating GSP in the standup. Throw a 2 or 3 punch combination, wait till his hands drop and throw a head kick, or take a small step back before the kick so he drops his hands thinking the attack is over. After he throws a combo immediately counterattack as he’ll be dropping his hands afterwards. Probably wouldn’t work in the early rounds when he’s fresh but it was more noticeable in the late rounds when he was a bit tired.
Have no doubts Anderson would destroy GSP in a fight.

Sure, one can’t finish one’s opponent all the time. Sheilds was not a low level opponent, and what is left is Diaz at 170lbs who wouldn’t likely be an easy blow over either. I agree GSP largely dominated Condit, even though that head kick was scary.
If it makes sense to say one fighter at the same weight as the other is bigger, then it is true with Silva, assuming Georges bulks up to at least 180lbs.
Im not a GSP fan, but i give him more respect after a gutsy performance like that. However as long as the guy continues to be a point fighter (and he certainly is) ill have a hard time rooting for him.
And holy shit did anyone see them at the post-fight presser? If you were scoring the fight solely on who took more damage then condit would have won in a landslide. GSP had cuts under both eyes, on the bridge of his nose, his lip was busted and swollen and his entire forehead was swollen and black and blue, he looked like an alien. Condit looked relatively fresh other than the cut near his right eye. Just an observation.
Thank god that fight was good cause the rest of the card sucked IMO. GSP and Condit saved it.
Still think Silva blows GSP out.

GSP is walking around at damn near 190lbs, if not 200. I dont think any bulking up would be required at all.

I agree, just as Bones Jones would destroy Anderson Silva. In fact, we’re not saying much are we? A heavier fighter whose skills are even close will usually beat a smaller man. Anderson Silva would be foolish to fight Jones (and he says he wants no part of him). Just as GSP would be foolish to fight Silva.
Now let’s talk about something else.

He’s said in recent interviews that he is open to that fight but he wants GSP first. It would make sense because he only has two fights left on his contract.

Lets not compare apples to oranges.
If Jones tried to play the standup game with AS, he gets rocked.

It’s MMA…so everything goes. And Silva would get destroyed against Jones. And Jones would destroy GSP.
The heavier…ah never mind kiddies
YAWN
Silva vs. GSP is gonna happen sooner or later… neither man has proper challengers in their weight division. Other than that kick that was lucky as fuck, GSP dominated and man handled Condit on the ground which was supposed to be his strength.
GSP all the way baby dude’s a machine!

Theres too many variables and stylistically the two hold advantages in different areas, its just ignorant to make such a generalized statement. Theres is no silly equation that determines who beats who.

Lucky?
Condit must have landed “lucky” strikes over and over then, judging by this picture.
Its not luck when you hit a guy in the face over and over and occasionally it actually hurts him.
Silva could definitely beat Jones. It would be an interesting fight. I think Silva can beat Jones on the stand up, but Jones might try to take Silva down and ground and pound. The question is whether or not Silva can stop him from doing that and keep it standing. Jones stand up isn’t close to Silva’s. He just has such a reach advantage that it makes it up for him.
I don’t think GSP could take Silva down and if he did, Silva would pop back up. Silva would destroy GSP in the stand up department. Silva vs GSP wouldn’t be close. I see Jones vs Silva being a close fight that is hard to call.
The kick did a lot less damage than Condit’s shots off his back.
Say what you will about that fight. Condit got outclassed in ground positioning, outclassed in ring generalship, and, I believe FightMetric had him outlanded on the feet. By my God he was scrappy. The guy made GSP work for that win, every second of the fight.
The Diaz fight left a bad taste in my mouth, but damn it, respect.

Theres no doubt that GSP won that fight, no matter which way you spin it. Its just funny to me that when you hear about the performance online it sounded like a typical easy GSP domination, but he looked like he got hit by a truck. No matter what you thought about condit after the Diaz fight, you gotta give him respect for that gutsy performance.
Couldn’t resist.

Jones would destroy Silva? Based on your reasons it doesn’t appear so as Silva is probably not that lighter than Jones (Silva has fought at 205 before). And the gap in skills is not that small.
GSP has a good chance at defeating Silva.
The cards are -obviously- stacked in favour of the brazilian genius, but GSP’s [his camp’s] ability to devise and play a good strategy is a big chunk of why he should be considered a legitimate threat.
As for physicality, they will be on even level. (Seriously, how beefily perfect is GSP’s working tool right now? Speaking strictly technically; {masturbatically, his absurdly muscular abdominals and his disdain for beach muscles is probably the stuff of Prof. X’s nightmares} )
Silva -again very obviously- will enjoy an even more luxurious range advantage then usual, while being 3-4 inches shorter and bulkier will play favourably into George’s takedown-heavy approach.
Or will it be clinching and fencework?
I’m having a hard time imagining GSP being imprezzed by Silva’s fencegame.
COuld play out a bit like Thiago Silva vs Nedkov, with the difference that GSP will stay sharp till the end and not basically collapse from poking a needle in his ass too often.
The stylistic clash of Jonny Bones vs Silva is way harder to predict then this bout.
I don’t see the point of comparing this to a hypothetical GSP-Silva, even though it is a very beautiful strawman.
In the end, it will come to whatever the marketing machine might spit out, as fans will grasp for all abomina- er superfights the UFC might provide.
GSP will not say no, as will Jones, and Silva will probably take the excellent money for a catchweight escapade if his metabolism will not abandon him for the next 12 months.
If he pulls a Rampage (or gods of war beware- a Maradonna!) we might only see him executing another middleweight, even losing to one.
But if he’s in shape, his nose fairly clean and the money hasn’t taken all his masculine anger out of him…superfights will be nigh…
So I see a GSP-Silva at 50%, Jones-Silva @15%
