What kind of shoes do you compete in? I have read that the best ones are flat which makes sense. The ones I find that best fit the description are wrestling shoes. As for singlets, I have seen some really crazy ones on the wrestling sites but only solid colors on the lifting sites.
What do you guys and ladies wear? Is it ok to have colored singlets with designs?
I wear chucks and a plain black singlet. I also wear weightlifting shoes for benching - the heel helps with my arch and leg drive.
Most people wear the plain singlets, or ones with a powerlifting company logo. You can wear other singlets, but remember, your federation may have rules about leg length and fabric content.
Olympic shoes for squatting and benching, ramps for pulling. If you compete in a fed that requires you to break parallel, the raised heel helps. I agree with pmpm in regards to the hell on the OS helping with arch and leg drive but know some big benchers that just use tennis shoes. The important thing is they are not so tight as to amplify and foot movement/tilting of the foot.
I have a Bolt singlet that I like. It doesn’t really matter that much although black base is always a good choice because it makes it more difficult to see things like your ass coming off the bench. You can also ‘accidentally’ put some chalk marks on it to facilitate the refs seeing depth, if need be.
Dunno about coloured singlets. If they have logo’s there might be a problem too.
I wear indoor soccer shoes (they have a slight heel and were cheap) for squatting, chucks for benching since they’re flat (the refs are happier if they can see no space at all with feet placement), and thin reef shoes for deadlifting since all my slippers end up falling apart.
I’d wear oly lifting shoes for squat and bench if I could get try on a pair before ordering and if they were flat where they have contact with the ground.

I got them from a department store in Australia for like $10, but they’re similar to the stuff here: http://www.swimoutlet.com/Men_s_Water_Shoes_s/680.htm
Just something with as little lift as possible and lots of grip, really. Once I took the inner sole out of mine they were the same height as my deadlift slippers and felt similar to barefoot. I ended up a size smaller than usual though.

I like high-top Vans- flat solid sole, touch construction, gummy rubber on sole. I don’t think about singlets too much.[/quote]
Man those shoes are sharp. They look comfortable and even if I don’t lift in them I think I’ll get a pr anyway. The best thing about them is they aren’t Nike! Nothing personal I am just sick of Nike that’s all.
