I have been watching this site since last year and have found it both interesting and informative. I read about the V-Diet around that time and have finally decided to try it out. I ordered all my supplies last week and they arrived today! I am very excited! I introduced my brother and a cousin to the site and they both want to do the diet with me. (yay moral support!!). Hopefully we will start in about a week or so when both their orders arrive.
This is my first post and blog in general, so not really sure what to say…so…
The thing that attracted me to the diet the most was the change in food preference. I don’t eat too unhealthy, but I really want to start my 20’s eating clean and exercising properly/regularly. This diet will be the kickstart to that.
About me:
I am 19 years old and a student working 2 jobs. I find it difficult to eat healthy due to my schedule (which unfortunately changes from week to week).
My stats:
Height: 67inches
Weight: 143lbs
BF: ~23% (not completely accurate, but the average of two different tests I took at the gym)
Largest part of belly:35
Hips: 41
Upper leg: 24.5
Lower leg: 15
Upper arm: 11.5
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Good luck, I started the V-Diet yesterday. My only advice to give so far is to make sure you drink your shakes on schedule, I found this to be the best way to reduce cravings.

Thanks! What would you suggest when I am not sure of my schedule from day to day? Some of my shifts start at 11am and I never know when I will be done (anywhere from 1pm to 3am…depending on customers and/or if I do a split shift)
Good Luck w/ your diet…let me know how it goes.
I would make sure to bring extra shakes in some form. You’ll thank me when your stomach starts growling. The diet works mainly because it eliminates choice, once you start having to make choices, i.e. what to do when your hungry and don’t have a shake, you’re in trouble.
Thanks, I will definitely do that. I work at a restaurant/bar so there will be tons of temptation. I wouldn’t want even the slightest bit of hunger. (although i’m kinda expecting some)
We (my brother, cousin, and I) have decided to start the V-Diet together on Monday, February 4th. I have already tested out some of the shakes and absolutely love them. I have added hazelnut flavoured instant coffee to both the vanilla and chocolate flavours and they are amazing. I would prefer it to anything from starbucks, second cup, and tim hortons (my fav). and as a bonus, the shakes are cheaper too
I used to wait tables. I always found that watching fat people eat large amounts of unhealthy food to be very motivating. It just reminds you that sometimes you need to do things 180 degrees differently than everyone else in order to succeed.
You’re lucky you’ve got two other people doing the diet with you, it should definitely help your motivation. Just stay away from Tim Bits.
Hi Samantha, Good luck on the diet. You should be an instant success with all the moral support you’re going to receive. The V-Diet is tough but doable, as you’ve read here. I’m seeing someone who recently started the diet and is doing great for her first 2 days.
Thanks! I think this thread will keep me accountable…won’t want to fail if people are watching. Also, my brother would never let me forget if I quit and he doesn’t, but that won’t happen…haha. I hope.
No she isn’t. This is more of a personal journey for her at this time. She’s being accountable to me and 2 other people on T-Nation. She’s very focused and driven and I have no doubt will do a great job.
I shouldn’t say too much. She’s looking over my shoulder right now and I don’t want her to get a big head! ha

What’s your training look like? That’s a pretty important part.
I leave my workout routine on file at the gym. I meant to bring it home so I could post it, but forgot. I will definitely do so on monday. I can’t remember the exact routine, but basically I have 3 different workouts. They include deadlifts, squats, lunges, assisted chin-ups (my goal is to be able to do one unassisted by summer), inclined rows, and ab stuff. Most follow the A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, etc pattern.
An example of my fav. circuit is:
A1: deadliftx8 (only about 80lbs so far)
A2: inverted row (not sure of the exact name but kinda like a upside down pushup using the barbell) x 8
A3: lunges x14 with a barbell on my shoulders
A4: inchworm (i just started this one…not sure if I like it)
When I start the v-diet I plan on posting what I eat daily and my workouts. Anyone is welcome to critique them(hopefully I don’t regret that statement haha). I need all the help I can get.
A2: inverted row, that’s the right name, also called supinated rows or body rows. Great exercise.
A4: inchworm, I don’t know what this is but if you don’t like an exercise it’s usually because it hits an area you’re weak in and you need to do more of it. Can you give a brief description of the exercise?
I sound like a broken record. Dieting is for short term cutting for contests, etc. It’s not for long term. Find out how to eat for the long term and do it for life.

For the inchworm, you stretch to touch your toes and “walk” your hands out as far as possible until your in a kind of pushup position except with your hands further out. You then hold for 3 seconds and walk back, then repeat. I think it is supposed to work your core, but I really feel it in my arms, which have always been fairly week. I plan on sticking with it for a while as it adds a bit of variety to this circuit and I would like stronger arms. (Work would be much easier if I was stronger. you’d be surprised how much plates way haha)
I am hoping that this will kick start a long term healthy eating routine that will stick with me for the rest of my life. I have tried eating healthy in the past, but find I slowly incorporate unhealthy foods back into my diet. Both diabetes and heart disease run in my immediate family and I need to do something before it is too late.
Welcome to T-Nation first & foremost. I’ve been doing the light version for a cpl of days and have already dropped 3lbs.
Tomorrow I start the real diet!!
Ill defenitely drop in to say hello and make sure you’re kick’n azz!!!
You can do this girl…Can’t wait to see your progress. Do you have a goal as to how much weight or inches you would like to lose?
B-3
Thanks! We’ll be starting on the same day, so we can go through this “ordeal” together haha. I’m not sure really how much weight I want to lose. I’m thinking I’ll be at the lower end (possible 10lbs??, but that may just be wishful thinking). Even if I don’t lose a single pound I will be happy with the taste preference changes alone. Also, I want to prove to myself that I can do something this challenging if that makes any sense.
I glanced at your blog and you mentioned your thinking of not posting your progress as you go. Have you decided? It was hard for me to have someone take those pics of me let alone post them online, but thinking about how much better my after pictures will be makes it worthwhile.
At this point I am not going to post my V-Diet. I will probably mention it on my Shut Up thread, but doubt I will create a seperate post. I say that now…by the end of the day I may start a thread titled, “V-Diet…WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING???” LOL
So dont hold me to my blog!!!
I most certainly understand what you mean regarding wanting to prove something to yourself. That’s the same exact boat I am in!! Im not worried about the scale, the numbers, or even the pictures. I just want to do and prove to myself that Im a bad ass and can hang with the tough crowd!!!
Did you buy all the sups? Im dreading the BCAA’s…omg…they look like horse pills! LOL
