Wow! I can’t even imagine what 1036lbs feels like in my hands, such an enormous amount of weight. Congrats Ryan just incredible!!!
I was wondering how long it would take for this to pop up. Simply unreal.
Did anyone see his opener and 2nd attempt?? TOTAL smoke show.
It dosnt even look like he touches his chest though, but ya its a ridiculous amount of weight so damn nice. Wish there were some better angles though on the lift, its hard to see much.
Yes, but can he put his arms down to his sides in that shirt?

Probably not, it is after all…a bench shirt. I hope you’re not one of “those” people…
His ass is a good 5 inches off the bench the whole time.
I am no powerlifting expert, but isn’t that illegal?
It certainly would shorten the ROM.

I’ve never competed in a powerlifting meet, but the rules over in Ukraine might be different than the rules here.
It’s not our job to judge the lift, the federation he competed in should have judges watching to make sure the lift is completed properly. I’m sure if it were an issue the lift wouldn’t of counted.
Either way, thats 1000+ pounds the guy just pressed, instead of ripping on him for using a shirt or what not give him props for how hard he must have trained to lift that.
Funny. Gene’s world record attempt and the first time anyone hit it was in Harrisburg, PA, which is my home town. Now the world record was made in my home land.
I tried 300 a few weeks ago and it was so heavy just holding it. I can’t even imagine 3x+ that weight.

If his ass was up, yes that would be a bad lift.
You cannot tell if a lifters ass is up unless you look from the side, even more apparent when you are judging extremely large lifters like Ryan, 350+. I am sure the side judges were watching carefully for daylight.
Ryan Kennelly is a beast.
Good lift.

your right his ass is off the bench its pretty noticeable at that. Also how do you know its 1036 some guy just could have made that number up on youtube-dosnt look like that many plates- the guys last big attempt was what around 900, hard to believe he made such a huge improvement so quick.

I can see at least 6 plates a side. They are measured in kg so are differently than the weight used in the states.
It is also fairly common for shirts these days to increase your bench by 50-70 pounds. Depending on what federation he competed in, the shirt he is wearing could be a single ply, double ply, or triple ply.

Jesus fucking christ. Yet again this place astounds me.
BEn, you’re right, you are no powerlifting expert, his ass is DEFINATELY not 5 inches off the bench. They’re be out cry if there was.
Shizen, Ryan has been the most consistent bencher for the last year or 2 and this has been coming for a long time. I don’t think anyone who actually follows powerlifting was all that surprised.
Oh yeah, and get a colour chart and count the plates. You’ll have to convert from kg back to lbs tho. Think you can manage that??
xb100, I hate to interject here, but you aren’t serious, are you? Guys like Ryan, Gene, and Scott get around 300 lbs out of their shirts, not 50-70. I believe the raw record is 715 (not held by Ryan) while the shirted record is now apparently 1036.
Not to start a raw versus geared debate, but I believe any piece of equipment that increases one’s performance by 50% can no longer be considered only an aid. Did he really bench press over a grand, or did he bench press 700 and have a piece of fabric (albeit a very stiff one) make up the balance?
Either way, I applaud his accomplishmet and can’t imagine holding half that weight in my hands, let alone bench pressing it.
While I am not the biggest fan of this style of equipped benching it was the cleanist 1000lb bench I have seen on vid out of the 3/4 that have been done.
Further if people want to lift equipped in this fashion then fair enough. I am certanly one unequipped powerlifter who’ll not loose any sleep over people lifting in a different maner to myself.

We need a strength forum moderator that completely guts posts likes this.
This kid has been a member since Feb 2007, but still hasn’t learned much.
It seems that the deadlift is getting left behind in the world records…
As a powerlifter, I feel it is my duty to interject. 1000 lbs is 1000 lbs. I don’t care what you have on your body or in your body, it’s still 1000 lbs. Louie Simmons used to say that he could put his bench shirt in the corner with a bottle of test and it wouldn’t lift shit.
Yes, a shirt will help you lift more weight. But there still has to be a guy (or gal) with enough muslce mass to lift the heavy ass object trying to crush your chest.
Now, a single ply bench shirt is a lot different then a double or triple ply bench shirt. Not to mention that the open back model allows for a tighter fit around the chest and arms. But, again, he still lifted the freaking weight.
Furthermore, undeadlift, there is not a drop off in the deadlift as far as world records go. Andrew Bolton will continue to set new marks with the deadlift. However, the deadlift always comes last in a competition, when you have already attempted three max squats and three max benches. How tired would you be?
Also, the suits for the deadlift don’t help nearly as much as the suits for squatting and benching do.
I happen to agree with IanK, and I think he has a pretty accurate idea of what we should all be thinking.
Oh, and I think it was 1012, not 1036. There’s a better angle of the video on ironscene…
I don’t think the DL is getting left behind, didn’t Andy Bolton just pull 1000lbs not to long ago.
And how did I know that this would turn into another argument about raw vs geared? i don’t care if he got 250-300lbs out of that shirt that is still as someone else already said the best 1000+ bench I’ve seen, it was down and back up, looked like my 315 bench only way more impressive!
There is also video on youtube of Ryan doing 600 x2 without any supportive gear at all so unless you can do that shut up. Also this is an official record not something some douche bag just posted on youtube, i do check my facts before i post and make a fool of myself. www.powerliftingwatch.com/node/5590

How do you know the guy in the video is even Ryan Kennelley? could be an imposter! Chew on that for a second.
