Road to NAS Nationals 14' (LW <231/105k)

6/16/14 - had a wondrous overhead day today. things went pretty…good?

Push Jerks
220x5
270x3
290x7 PR
220x15 would have went to 20 but I literally could not take in any more air.

Seated overhead pin press (barbell set on pins at crown/forehead)
135x5
225x3
275x6
315x5
315x3
315x4 these are great for overloading your lockout

Lying rolling DB tri ext. (these are fucking godly, bar none. the stretch in the lat/tri tie plus the elbow extension at the top really nukes the entire tricep. highly recommended for people yearning to put more weight overhead!)

bandx15/15
25x10
40x8
40x6
40x6
40x6

saving upper back accesory for FS day.

Ridiculous…Awesome Job Brother!

thanks.

I’ll be competing Sept. 27th at the second annual NC Strength Challenge. Only thing I can actually say is Lynn is really pushing the envelope here. This is a very heavy show. I am being forced to get stronger and I like it. The main focus for me in this contest is getting my deadlift higher and working on conditioning.

Do you know the events? And are you not going to nationals?

EDIT: Scratch that, I just googled it…def looks like a tough comp. I still cannot find the weights and events for nationals this year

There’s no way I could qualify if I wanted to. When I injured myself in March, I basically took 2 months off of any event training and dialed down. On top of that, I’ve still got fine tuning to do. I have gotten so much stronger but on a leveled playing field I’m still a bit behind. My deadlift is just a lift that has always pulled me over the fence just when I thought I was about to pave my way. It’s inexcusable but now I am forcing myself to get better. I WILL be at nats, just not this time.

Hell yea you will man! Im am working pretty hard on my deadlift as well. Hoping to hit 7 in the next few months. If you need tips, help or anything else brother, jut let me know.

6/17/14

deads
135
225
315
405
500
565 came off the ground like 4 inches.

I have been so content with my training this past year and today reminded me why. I had deadlifted so rarely that I was never reminded about how weak I am. Today was the ultimate bring down. I can overhead 400 and it will never fulfill me. I have no good memories with deadlifts. I have never gleaned any pride from deadlifts and they’ve been the only thing to injure me.

I have never ever day dreamed about overhead pressing 400lbs, or squatting 600lbs, or loading a 400lb stone. I have only ever day dreamed about being a strong deadlifter. If I could I’d remove 80lbs off of my overhead and add it to my deadlift.

Ended the workout here and I’m probably not going to train for the remainder of this week or the entirety of next week.

My deads always been shit, the real issue here is that i’ve hit all these stone PR’s sandbag prs and front squat PR’s and my deadlift is just…noooope.

I would also be happy to remove 80lbs from your overhead and add it to my deadlift.

Keep your chin up though man, some day we’ll be 600lb deadlift bros.

6/22/14

DL’s
135x3
225x3
315x3
405x3
belt on
500x4
405x13

Short term goal with deads is 500 for 5. I’m going to stick with that weight for reps for a while with a long term goal of 6-7 by show time.

Hip thrusts
135x10
225x10,10,10,10

I have learned I am a really shitty puller with weights ~ or above 90% of max. I am far better at reps. I can easily pull 405 for 15 fresh.

------------NC Strength Challenge 2014------------

Date: September 27th, 2014. 10 am

Events (for <231 LW’s):
Yoke/Tire Medley- 700 for 50 feet ONE drop aloud. 700 tire x5.
Press Medley- 275 axle, 275 log, 225 keg, 175 circus DB.
Loading race - 240 sandbag, 260 sandbag, 250 keg, 275 keg.
Deadlift Ladder- 495 axle, 565 BB, 620 frame, 670 18".
Stone Series- 200-375lb stones to 48".

6/30/14 - came in wanting 225x10 but it was an off day. I’ll get this weight x reps soon though for sure. strength is there.

SOHP
135x5
185x3
205x1 felt a little off but i carried on with high expecations
225x7 had no strength today :frowning:

Seated overhead pin lockouts (height at crown)
135x10
225x5
275x3
315x1 hit a wall so hard. the pins obviously remove any rebound so once you hit a wall, you can’t really come back from it.
275x8

Rolling tri. extensions
10x10
20x10
40x8,8,6
25x8,8

Diamond push ups/bent over rear delt flye (banded) superset
x8/x10
x8/x10
x8/x10
x8/x10

Likely going to work up to a heavy front squat single thursday since i have off from work. A minimum for a PR would be 425 but I feel with all the beltless and pause work recently I am probably good for 440 or so. We shall see.

Not enough deadlifts

[quote]Ass Banana wrote:

Deadlifts don’t like my body. I can only train them heavy at most once every two weeks. On top of that, it’s my only lift that is subpar, and nobody wants to see me being a weakling.

7/3/14 - good day today, had 440 FS in mind but i simply didn’t have it today.

Front Squats (second time front squatting in oly shoes i think)
135x5
185x5
225x3
275x3
belt on
335x1
365x1 got lighted headed
385x1 light headed again, and i tunnel visioned and nearly passed out DURING the rep. due to this, i couldn’t really gauge how this or the former set felt because…i was hardly conscious for it :frowning:
425x1 5lb PR.

A note for how fronts feel in oly shoes is that they cause my hips to shoot up making it harder to maintain composure but they also give me a bit more leg drive which might be better or worse because i tend to be a glute/hip dominant squatter. buuuuuut, better or for worse, i still hit a PR.

Zerchers
135x8
225x5
315x5 slipping in my forearms and the barbell pushed my belt into my bladder (l0l?) and it kind of felt bad…
275x8

Sandbag loading race (60 feet distance to bar)
204x60" load very easy
260x60’ swift run but my hand was on the tape around the top of the bag so the load was just a MESS.

Then did a medley run with the 204 and 260. The 204 was such a breeze but by the time I got to the 260 I was just depleted. I had to relap midway which I really did not want to do, and to add insult to injury my hand slipped on the tape again on the relap AND load. The load was very close but I was too far from the bar hence the mishap.

Hanging leg raises
x6,6,6,6 (banged these out with like 30 second rests, calluses were getting squeezed hard on a 3 inch handle)

Cross leg crunches (shoulder to knee)
x15/15

Russian twists
25x20,20

Side planks
x30s
x45s

425 front squa loading race

7/6/14 - first time pulling from above the knee ever.

18" deads
135x8
225x8
315x5
405x5
500x5
570x3
635x2
685x1
700x1 honestly not even that hard. breaking inertia is difficult but the lockout is just such an easy movement for me.
635x4 had 5 but the bar rolled off the platform lol

Yoke (No belt)/Tire flip medley
270x60’
450x60’
540x60’
610x60 feet, 650 tire x 10 uphill and a wet tire…sucks :l

Sled drags
280x60’,60’,60’ did these with only 30 second rest so it SUCKED so much oh my god!!! managed to only stop a few times, but it was only because my legs were literally stopping, totally out of gas.

700lb 18" pull and more
