Road to NAS Nationals 14' (LW <231/105k)

6/5/14

Upper back (anddddd no bicep)

DB rows
25x10
40x10
90x10,10,10
100x10,8,8

Head supported BB rows (pulled to chest)
45x10
95x8,8
65x10,10,10

Pull ups
bw x 5,5
20x5,3
20x5,5 (close grip double overhand)

6/8/14- first heavy stone session since the injury in march. lapping seems only slightly bothersome.

Stones over 48" (low height to be tentative)
180x5,3
253x3,3 lapped all of them and they felt easy and didn’t bother my leg too much
320x2 tacky was useless today. it was nearly impossible to apply because of how humid it was and constant sweating.
320x2 laps feel impossible for some reason. never had any issues lapping this stone until today. I feel like I can’t actually lift the stone because of some kind of thing blocking. i feel as if i’m forced to roll the stone as soon as it breaks the floor, which is really shitty. no trouble with the load.
320x2

Stones over 54" (no tacky, in fact, the residual tacky was so caked with dirt sweating made it almost harder than if i had no tacky at all)
253x6 really pissed about this. I had thought this took all i had, but…i had to redeem myself.
253x8 took everything I had and I wasn’t sure if I was going to come out of this session alive or not lol. I just needed to do better than the previous set.

To sum this morning up, I can say the one thing that brings me fear is regression. I can lose sleep over the thought of getting weaker. I’ve had horrible workouts, but always, no matter what, had days of improvement. The problem is, the stronger I get, the worse I feel when I have bad days. Right now, my body can’t keep up with my emotions. Basically killed myself with two brutal sets with the lighter stone, but just did not feel fulfilled.

Considering training my deadlift for once. As much as my post chain has gotten stronger from stones/sandbags, I think I can bump it up a bit further if I train the deadlift with a better approach. Hmm…

stupid stones 253x8 to 54"

I’ve only been training WITH a belt for 8-10 months lol. So many 500+ deads, 400+ front squats and 300+ overheads totally without. Just never had access to them. I know for a fact training for periods of time beltless helps belted training, but I avoid doing it too much nowadays since I’m rather injury prone.

Yeah ive used one a few times but never felt like I got anything out of it.

I may have asked you this before, but what is your strict press grip, and do you take a wider grip when you’re doing push press/push jerks?

My strict is about an inch outside the knurling. When I push jerk, my grip’s marginally wider.

A tip for overhead I can give you is to hold your breath before the unracking and keeping it held for the press. Works best for 1-3 rep range and it kind of preserves your power as opposed to just breathing, unracking, exhaling, and reinhaling. Makes sense? Hope so, because it helps me out alot!

Holding breath before unracking and keeping it held I feel like is half the reason for my strict press PR’s. Works so nicely.

Events

Yoke (all sets BELTLESS)
270x50’
450x50’
540x50’
700x50’ no drops, PR for no belt. Best with this previously is 50 feet with 2 drops WITH a belt.

280x50’ no drops on any of them, that was kind of the goal.

shut it down, wanted to work up to a heavy beltless just for a confidence booster. for the next 2 weeks im going to do some lighter timed runs.
