Road To a 400lb Squat

345x1 going for 405 by dec.3

Ive done 180kgs which is 396lbs so technically ive never done 400. I am however going for 460+ with a belt this year. Squatting is the shit!

Put 405 on, chickened out, dropped a plate and replaced it with a 35 and 5 on each side. Took one difficult rep with it, but I had some left.

Soon. Very soon.

im going to stop squatting for a while, going to find something else to switch it out with for a month or so then move back to it.

why?

Finally hit 400 on Tuesday. To parallel, with a belt. Goal is 405, but I only have 6 45’s at my house so it wouldn’t have looked as cool anyway.

By the way, I’m 5’7 180.

Now onto 450!

feels about that time.

i do the same with most my other big compound lifts too, but mainly deadlifts which im also not working right now, doing rack pulls instead.

idk, I used to do that, but 5/3/1 has prevented me from needing to do that. I would rather stagger my weights each week for a long period of time, then fuck around changing movements.

Am I really the only one that’s not scared to add 5-10lbs to last weeks max, on your third attempt of the day, and attempt to squat that shit? I unrack my 100% of max+a few extra pounds and attempt to squat that, sometimes in a completely empty room with the music turned up nice and loud. I usually fail but I put up a helluva fight and the safety racks haven’t failed me once. Reminds me of a time when I squatted so low, failed, and the safety balls were so low that I got stuck in the bottom of the squat position with my max weight. The safeties were supporting the majority of the weight I think but this was back when I was fat and I couldn’t “fall forward” because of how low I was and the depth. Stayed under there for a while was kinda hard to breath.I was lifting with a friend though and he came and rescued me once he got with his set. He had to sort of me out kick push me out from under there I was stuck pretty tight.

Good times…

Yep - you’re the only one. U r so soooper awesomez!!!

400 is a big goal for me at the moment. Not that far from it, squatted 162.5kg for 4 yesterday with a belt. Bodyweight is 83kg.

Fuck yeah, thats what I want: competition, someone to beat. Congrats bro, I look forward to breaking that ceiling.

You got it big man. You’ll be there before you know it, so keep those sights looking ahead…450 and on.

405x2, 415x1.

Had tight knee wraps due to left knee hurting, made a huge difference.

Props Dixie. Feels good huh?

I hit 405 x 5 yesterday, gonna back it off for a week then probably go for 455…which I’m already eager as all hell for.

I’m sure you’re good for 425 so knock that out then chase 455 with me.

Hit 425x1 today. [/quote]

Hell yeahh Dixie. I’ve been playing with multiple sets of singles and doubles at 405-425 to getting used to the weight and really exploding up. I’ll try that 455 within a week or 2.

If you get it before me I’ll be pissed. (note sarcasm)

But in a good kinda way, a ‘ahh hell I’ve gotta get this 455 squat now’ kinda way.

Maybe I’m just a dumb youngin’ but I feel like if I take more than a week or 2 off from a big(ger) lift then my strength on that lift will plummet. Obviously not the case, but still.

Though I understand why you’re doing it. How well do you do coming back after taking a month or so off from the squat/dead/etc?

i’ve never come back weaker on any lift.

i hate going to the gym and not beating the log book, it really gets to me. so when i feel like im kind of at the point where i probably wont be hitting PRs anymore, i stop the lift for a short amount of time.

it’s not like im not going to be training legs anymore, i just wont be squatting. when i come back i garuantee ill be hitting the same weight for more reps.

295x10 today. calculator puts me at a 393 max. Calculators aren’t accurate but considering what my 10rep max was when I did 375 it makes sense. I’m deloading after this 5/3/1 cycle doing one more cycle, then attempting 4 wheels.

Guess i’ll join in on this little journey… Pretty sure I’m getting close!

Last week I hit 320 for 6 reps beltless… I’d probably squeeze out a couple more if I had a belt on.

Either just below or just above 400 according to the calcs… Definitely not confident enough for an attempt yet though!

Yeah I hear ya. I’ll probably give it a shot soon here once I max out again. Or at the very least, drop the intensity a bit. Thanks for the .02

i got 405x1 tonight! 365 felt good, so i decided to go for it. next stop, 505! haha it might be a while…

295x10 and you maxout over 375 ?!
Crap, I hate the way it works for me ! My 10rm is around 285 and the more I ever squatted is 350…and it was a f*ckin’ grinder !

I’m giving a go at a wider stance to see if I am stronger that way. A shorter stroke seems like a good way to increase a max, and I think I’ll get better leverage that way.

I’m weak on rep maxes, and very good at singles. I spent the last year+ doing 3 reps or less on squats/pulls. In fact 3 reps was pretty rare. Singles where the most common.
