Thanks for reading this. I LOVE this website and the articles, so I am putting my faith in my fellow lifters. Here’s my situation. 37 yr old powerlifter. 180lb. Raw SQ and dead of 500, previous bench of 395. Tore Left pec (full on major blow out) 4 yrs ago. Came back to compete, but never was as strong in the bench. Some days had pain in the repaired tendon area. Christmas Eve 2007, tore Right pec. Smaller injury, but still needed surgery to repair tendon at arm.
So, it’s been 3 months since that last repair and my right pec is progressing. But, my left pec is killing me!! I laid on a bench today and did DB presses with 8 lb dumbbells and it about killed my left (good) pec.
I need to find the reason for the declining situation. Could it be related to the atrophy? Should I go through the pain and try to build it back up a bit to add some size, thinking that may keep the repair off of a nerve? Any suggestions would be great. As you can guess, no pec activation means no squats, no deads…it’s killing me.
