Dude, I LOVE this shit and helping people out with it (nutrition and dietetics is my profession) and I’m god terms with you here. I think you need some tough love, because if (IF–I might be wrong) I recall correctly, you’ve done this same sort of stuff with training.
Design a fuckin’ diet and program and start them. STOP thinking!
Seriously, what are you trying, or what do you think you’ll gain from all this questioning?
lol I like to ask a lot of questions, about both nutrition and training, but believe me, there’s no “paralysis by analysis” or constant switching back and forth between things. I’m consistent with what I do, I just find a lot of stuff interesting and wonder about it (for instance I often ask people about their results on a given diet, even if I already have my opinion on it and/or have tried it myself).
Regarding that last question, I don’t really hope to “gain” anything from it, other than an understanding of where these common 400-800 calorie diet set ups are coming from. Even for you I would think around 180lb LBM so as a cat 2 I get close to 1350, I guess that’s more in line with bigger guys rather than an overweight unactive female or something. For me as a cat 2 it would come to about 1250, along with refeeds and whatnot that’s basically 2-2.5lb of fat loss per week IF things go how they should (which often isn’t the case). Obviously though I’ll find out when I try it (hopefully won’t have to for awhile lol).
I gave 1200 as an estimate because I didn’t count calories, only protein because all my protein came from the leanest sources possible, as is recommended. I was off by 150 cals, which to me is NOT worth thinking about on this diet and most others! So there was no need to bother with calculating shit with a calculator. I also didn’t count veggie servings much. I just had two big-ass salads per day and some veggies in my omelet in the morning.
If you like asking a lot of questions, I guess that’s OK. At this point of life, I’m DONE with constant questioning and OVER THINKING. Those two things ALWAYS, and i mean ALWAYS, did more harm than good for me; NOTHING or little got started or finished!
Well, back on it today. This sucks my weight was 177 last night at the gym. I’m almost tempted to compete at 165 instead of 181 for my first meet. It’s either cut down more (no fun and really already damn lean) and try and set a USAPL raw total record in the 165 or get up to about 190 (then cut using RFD to 181). Either way I’ll stick with it this round due to a few things I want to look freakishly good for and then I can always start the bulk later this month. Hope everyone is going strong.
Hey pumped. Off topic but… when we going to get some progress shots of you. Yes, i realise that we’ve never seen you but one day would be nice. From what ive heard you seem to be progressing. Just asking…

Is this directed towards me? If so, I’ll try and get some video up soon which I need to do anyways to have my squat depth critiqued to make sure I’m going to be okay for my first PL meet. I don’t have a camera but I’ll do a terrible pose routine (there’s one already in my training log somewhere in there from 2-3 years ago and I promise I haven’t improved at posing). That’ll have to do unless someone wants to come and take pictures heh.
Weight down from 250-218
Waist down from 43-36.5
Awesome Chim, keep up the work bud! What’s your ultimate numbers goal? Obviously how you look should take precedence over the numbers but anything in your mind you’ve got that you’re aiming for?

Thanks Liquid!
If possible I’d like to remain above 200 pounds, waist at around 32 inches.
Aggression: I don’t know of any more studies off hand. Check for low calorie diets and PSMFs in Pub Med. I just happen to like that one and it stuck it my head, so I knew where it was off the top of my head.
Pumped: No, Shelby doesn’t use a PSMF for his mini-diets, but that doesn’t say that a PSMF can’t be used for someone who got a little too gung-ho with size gaining efforts. They can simply use a PSMF for 2-3 wks and go back to what they were doing.
As for “top weight leading into” a PSMF–still has nothing to do with this because someone who’s overly fat should discontinue their quest for top weight unless they want to get fatter and fatter.
I REALLY don’t give a shit what some big dude who’s has success with ULTRA-BULKING and then came down successfully. For every SINGLE guy who pulled it off, there are HUNDREDS of dudes who’ve fucked it up–not to mention that this sort of shit produced some areas in which there is less skin tautness (sometimes for life).
Who does well with ultra-bulking (if this is even necessary)? (1) People with great genetics, who don’t look like lops of shit when they get chubby, but rather just appear more bulky, albeit smoother. (2) People who are extremely calculated and apply this sort of calculation in coming down. (3) People who really take bodybuilding to the absolute limit, which is actually very few people on this board.

I’m not talking about “ultra-bulking” or whatever. I think you’re missing my point. I’m not saying to keep gaining and gaining. I’m saying some people say to hold their top weight (it could be 220lb, doesn’t matter, just whatever they reached at the end of their “bulk”), to solidify the gains before cutting down. This isn’t even completely related to RFL but somewhat in that the weight loss would be much quicker.
So even if these people would say RFL is good they would suggest holding that top weight (again, not necessarily fat or huge) for weeks/months before then doing the diet. Not trying to be a dick, but I don’t know how else to say it. I guess the question is if you believe in this. I would guess no. I’ve talked to Shelby before and he said he wasn’t aware of any reason the muscle gained would be any less “real/solidified” even without holding the top weight. I just heard the idea from PX and then a few others.

He’s correct. If muscle is built, and one continues training while on a PSMF or any sound diet, why would the muscle be lost?
And people talk as if muscle is lost at the drop of a hat. Of course someone who’s been training can get by with very low calories and sometimes VERY LITTLE training at all and maintain a lot or almost all of his muscle (within a reasonable time frame).
I know it was X who said that, and that’s probably why I mentioned some of his other stuff.
I get what you’re saying, and I never considered you a dick at all. You seem like a nice guy to me.
But as I said, being in a position to bulk up has little to do with someone underoing a PSMF.
Chim- awesome!! feels great, doesn’t it?! Have you been taking anything to curb the appetite at all?
Pumped- this is really a fool- proof diet… get your(lean) protein, have some veggies and take your fish caps…there really isn’t a need to count calories.

Thanks MIM, it does feel pretty darn good.
I’ve been doing the EC stack which seems to be working quite well at blunting hunger.
looking good Chim! Thats a shit load of weight lost.
I dont know about you LM but if I had a shot at possibly setting a PL Record that would be veeeeeeeery tempting and I dont know if I could get away from at least trying lol… Thats just me though
