lol. guys funny as shit

It has always been obvious to me that the only reason why black people don’t dominate powerlifting, strongman, oly lifting the way they do sprinting and the NFL is because there are cultural factors at work, meaning there just aren’t that many black participants.

What those cultural factors are would make a more interesting thread.

Is it lack of interest or barriers to inclusion …

Am I missing something or do most of the best white athletes not also go into the major sports?

Steve Goggins also

I reckon if cultural barriers to black involvement in powerlifting were removed the biggest squat, bench, dead ec would be held by black guys

I think this thread shows more about how closely people follow the sport rather than what’s actually happening in it. It’s the same as when people try to talk expertly about bodybuilding but can only name arnold, ronnie and jay. (I can’t name many more than that but then i don’t claim to follow it)

What cultural barriers are there to powerlifting that are specific to a race? The best athletes in every race go to more popular sports.

Big weight movers among caucations can typically trace their roots back to the colder parts of Europe - northern and eastern. Think big-ass vikings. You’ll find these guys powerlifting, olympic lifting, playing offensive line, in strongman competitions, and throwing the shotput and the discuss. They aren’t built for playing soccer, or riding horses really fast, or rowing canoes, or swimming…they are built to pick up and throw heavy objects.

This doesn’t mean that only these people are big, or that these people are only big. What it means is that a higher prportion of them are freakishly strong while not being built to do a whole lot of other things, “like sprinting and jumping.” In addition, decending from colder climates, they don’t shed fat very well.

In activities regarding strength, there’s not a whole lot of competition. Asians, indians, middle easterners, east africans, and latinos all tend to be way to small (on average). The main competition for strength is in west africa, or more specifically north american blacks.

While north american blacks tend to also posses high amounts of strength, they tend to shed body fat much more easily, have higher proportions of fast twitch muscles, and have the skelletal frames better suited to locomotion…on average.

What this gives you are two main groups of people who have a propensity to build strength. One of those groups sheds fat more easily and is better at moving, the other is not. Genetics alone would tend to push one group into power lifting over the other available options. Once interest is picked up in a sport, it then becomes a cultural expectation/barrier issue. A black guy who could be successful at powerlifting might never try it simply because there’s not a lot of interest in it among his peers/family/etc.

That’s my 2 cents.

CSEagles1694 it all boils down to culture. The percentage of black people that see powerlifting as fun sport is much lower than white.
