Question for Bill Roberts

You mentioned salicylic acid was good for treating back acne, well I found this at the ScienceAlliance and am wondering if it’s the stuff you were talking about: Salicylic Acid, Powder, 500g [69-72-7] 2-Hydroxybenzoic Acid, CO2HC6H4OH, FW 138.12, mp 158-161. Also, how many grams should I add to a bottle of Androsol to get good results?

That is the right stuff.

I am not sure I’d want to add it to the Androsol itself. In fact, I know I wouldn’t
do it if I were doing it for myself.

In an Androsol bottle (or other 240 mL
bottle that has a suitable sprayer – most
sprayers are not suitable) dissolve 5 grams
of salicylic acid. This is sprayed on very
heavily, almost to the point of dripping.

If you don’t have a balance to measure the
5 grams, a teaspoon should get you close enough for government work.

is Science Alliance on the web?

Rooster…whats the cost of 500gms. i found salicylic powder for about $22. Bill is all salicylic powder the same?

All salicylic acid is the same though one
company might have a purer product than another.

And I think I forgot to mention in my previous
post, an ideal solvent probably would be 70%
isopropyl alcohol. That is just a guess. I don’t know the composition of the Noxzema
Astringent formula, or other formulas, but
I think they all have some water as well as
alcohol. If you used pure ethanol, it would
probably evaporate too fast for this purpose.

Thanks Bill! ScienceAlliance is on the web and sells 500 grams for $20.

My big question is when do you spray this stuff on if you are spraying androsol and nandrosol in the A.M. after showering and in the evening after showering and before going to bed, then when can you spray this Salicylic Acid so that it does not conflict with the Androsol and Nandrosol?

It’s not necessary to spray Androsol on
the acne-afflicted areas. The rest of the
body provides sufficient area. Most users
don’t spray their back with Androsol anyway
(though it works perfectly fine there if
you can get a good even light “misted” coverage.)

So I would just apply the salicyclic acid where
needed – probably back, shoulders, and maybe
triceps or some of chest – and Androsol in other places.

If for some reason the two have to be combined, I’d spray the salicylic acid first,
let it dry, then spray the Androsol. For all
I know this may work as well as Androsol alone but it’s also possible it might not bond quite as well as Androsol alone does. Almost surely
would not be bad though.
