Program for Beginner Gains?

I’m sure I need coaching on form and programming. And yes I’ve read both the original 5/3/1 book and the Beyond 5/3/1 book both of which I own.

you’re only 15 man relax, you’re strong for 15. You don’t know your body that well yet… big difference between being hurt and being injured, no idea which one you are but let it heal and ease your way back into lifting. I have hurt myself a few times squatting and deadlifting, and every time it was my own fault, poor form or not warmed up properly. analyze what you’re doing. Don’t worry about it, it’s part of the game but you don’t wanna rush back in and really hurt yourself, then it becomes a mental handicap.

It took me several months to deadlift heavy again after hurting myself because in the back of my mind i was worried about it happening again. Use it as a learning experience and move on. Like i said, you’re 15 so go ahead and experiment with different programs and lifting strategies. You have plenty of time to get big and strong man you are not even close to fully grown yet barely getting started.

And thanks for breaking down what a farmer carry is for us.

You can definitely hurt your back doing farmer carries. For one thing you need to pick them up and put them down. And if the weight is too heavy and you’re posture is poor most definitely that can be potentially dangerous to the back, although I agree that would be kind of a rare injury.

So what type of program should I do then? I’m so lost.

A program that let’s you shoot a video of your lifts so you can post it on here. There are some seriously strong and smart guys basically begging you to let them help you. I would have killed to have that when I was your age., and you are two or three posts away from fucking it all up. I’m not being mean, I promise, I’m just trying to get it through your head what you are passing on.

Forget the program, at your age, DickBobs 5x27 will work (I miss StormTheBeach). These guys want to help you from the ground up, but they need to see it!

I understand, I will try to post a video of my lifts as soon as my back heals. However I have a video of me squatting which was recorded with my phone by a friend I will try to upload it right now.

Ok here’s a video of me squatting 315 lbs it was from a few weeks ago before I hurt my back.

Hmm I don’t know why Its not showing up I attached the video file. Ill try to upload it to my profile.

Ok I uploaded it to my Hub it says it will take a little while to process though.

Yea take advantage of the coaching, your squat form is leaps and bounds better than mine was when I was that age but not near what it could be with the help thats being offered. As far as your back goes this might help tho… Fuck Your Elbow - YouTube

well this thread has been a big disappointment lol

hope your back gets beter soon guy, and all that.

saw your squat vid on your hub. depth looks decent.

Ok thanks guys and I love that video, I have seen it before and it’s really motivational.

Your form looks ok. That is strong for a 15 year old, you should feel good about where you’re at. Maybe you can just ease back on the squatting and focus on the bench since it is your weak point. You’re 15 years old putting really heavy weight on your back, perhaps the injury is just telling you to ease up on that for a while. You’re over thinking programming. keep it simple just lift man. Have fun, see how your body responds to different rep schemes, etc… thats just my 2 cents.

What was the reason you were doing a 1 rep max in this video?

I don’t have time to read all of the thread just yet as I am studying and stopped by to check my log real quick.

I will tell you I just rehabbed a back strain. Took me a month of my own PT. You are to read my log for details. I think it was around page 23 where it began. BAD FORM WAS THE CAUSE.

I came back two months later and pulled a PR. (A cheap one mind you, but it went up.)

I can try to help coach you around it.

OR YOU CAN POST A BENCH PRESS VIDEO. SINCE I HURT MY BACK MY BENCH WENT FROM 225 FOR 9 TO 245 FOR 10 A FEW WEEKS AGO. IT WAS LIKE MAGIC. TAKE THIS TIME WHILE YOU CAN BECAUSE YOU WON’T GET A CHANCE TO LOGICALLY NEGLECT YOUR LEGS FOR A WHILE IF YOU ARE A SERIOUS STRENGTH ATHLETE. This is just my opinion, but I see it happen every now and then.

ALSO MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE HACK SQUAT MACHINE IF YOU HAVE ONE. START DOING SHRUGS AND BACK EXTENSIONS WITH NO WEIGHT FOR HIGH REPS. DO NOT STOP TRAINING YOUR LEGS IN SOME FORM. HIT EVERYTHING. GO DO LEG EXTENSIONS, LEG CURLS, AND SOME FORM OF GLUTE BRIDGE IF YOU HAVE TO. TRAIN AROUND THE INJURY NOT THROUGH IT.

You should be mentally tougher than this. Brandon Lilly just did a meet about 4 months after having both of his knees reconstructed.

T-Nation as a whole is literally willing to help you get stronger. I have very rarely seen the site function like this for one person. You need to take advantage of this opportunity while you have so many people interested.

Now, I have to get back to studying. I’ll stop by again in a few days.

EDITED FOR CLARITY

ALSO IF YOU ARE NOT DEADLIFTING YOU NEED TO BE TRAINING YOUR GRIP SOMEHOW. PICK SOMETHING UP AND HOLD IT UNTIL YOUR FOREARMS CRAMP. THIS IS PART OF THE REASON I RECOMMEND SHRUGS IF YOU CAN MANAGE THEM.

I find when loading video’s it is easier to upload to YouTube than copy the share info and paste into T-Nation. It is super quick to upload to YouTube and even faster to put the video into your log this way. Just make sure when you upload make the settings Public.

I’m just worried about straining my back again when I get back to squatting and deadlifting. I will read your log and start the physical therapy. I will post a bench press video next week when I start training again. Thank you for your help.

It was a joker set after I had hit a PR I could have gone much heavier because this felt easy but the gym was going to close soon and I had to do Boring But Big.
