I have a friend with some bulding herniated discs in his back ART fixed him right up.
the fun stuff in my neck started as herniated discs and moved on to more fun things.
p.s. the word for low back rehab is spinal flossing go wander over the mobility thread or google
spinal flossing catcamels and the like.
I had a bulging disc in the spring. My guy just pushed in back in and prescribed a few exercises. Taking time of deads or squats was never prescribed. I hope it’s as easy for you.

Julie did you have the pain down the leg thing? It sounds like you got treated by a chiro, is that right? I’ve got to get a referal from a doc before I can go to a chiro so I’m hoping they won’t fight me on it.
Honestly I wouldn’t taking a couple of weeks off pulling but I’d really, really like to know that I’m not going to have to stop forever.

I had an on-going pain in my lower back that was made worse by sitting down. It was also brought about over time by having a desk job. I was treated by a chiro/ART. Treating strength athletes is his specialty so there was no big deal.

I hope I can find somebody like that, we don’t have an ART practitioner in Birmingham so I’m expanding my search. I’d hate to have to go to Atlanta for appointments.

Injuries of any kind really suck. Wendler’s article this week is pretty timely on that issue, though. I trust you will find some work-arounds while you give your low back some rest.
If its nothing else I’ll focus on getting lean and ready fora rebound effect when i can pull again.

hey Kev, thanks. I’m going to check out that spinal flossing right now.
In theory though this sort of thing sometimes heals pretty quickly.
If its a “mild” bulged disk, then it may be possible to work it back in. I wouldn’t be surprised if the kind of things you are doing, assuming good form, would help it move back.
I went through this ordeal with my wife.
Mine was a stretched spinal ligament. Took forever to heal up. Could move my L3 disk in and out pretty freely but the disk never slipped.
Best wishes on whatever it is.
Thanks OP, I’m going to treat it cautiously since I’m a bit beat up as well. Hopefully I’ll heal up all around.
Sorry to hear about your trials and tribulations Joe.
Dan John wrote an article a while back where he said he got knocked out by an errant (flying) discus, was forced to take six (?) months off from training, but then came back and shocked himself by proceeding to set a personal record in the discus shortly after. You should look that one up -you’re definitely the type of guy he refers to, the one that could actually benefit from an extended “rest”, but would never take one willingly.
When things get sorted out, and depending on the diagnosis for your back, you might try a modified 5/3/1 using front squats and sumo deads. Great back friendly, strength and size movements.

I’m going to look for that article. Honestly I can’t imagine doing anything for 6 months but if I have to I can see switching gears and doing lots of isolation work maybe even take my weight down to 165 and see if I could build a base for competing there. Thanks a lot dude.

I really think its the deads more than the squats that are causing the most trouble. I might have to bite teh bullet and the pride and learn Sumo. So far I have been terrible with it but I’ve only tired once or twice.
See how far the mighty have fallen. One thing I did note, I bench with my hands inside my shoulders so that wide ass grip on the chest press stretched the hell out of my pecs.
