A few things I have noted this morning.
I have no idea what size plates I need for my farmers walk bars. Any ideas on how to figure out how much I can carry?
Yesterday a moron tore a hole in my Tyvek suit and managed to knock off my N95 respirator while I was in a hot room. So far my organs are not liquifying so keep a good thought.
Back feels better than it has in a few weeks, so of course I DL today. Lets see how it does. I’m going to try and part the hordes of brotards and take a video from the side.
So happy football is here.
Are you taking the bars into the gym with you or buying your own plates? I’d try the gym first to get an idea. The last time I did farmers walks, a couple of years ago, I did 120/side at 125 body weight. Of course it’s easier to pick up if you have 45s on. How much do the bars weigh? What are the handles like? That will affect how much you can carry. The thicker the handle, the faster your grip will go.
I hope you don’t die of bubonic plague or something like that. At least not before you figure out your new bars.
Thats a good idea, I’ll take them up to the gym and see. I’ll see if I can get pics of the bars tonight and post them up.
If I die from anything it will be Eastern Equine Encephalitis.

Okay. What’s the connection between you two (Joe and Ronda)?
I’ve known Ronda for years. I have a couple of really close female friends and she’s one of them. Of course it might have something to do with the fact they’ll lie and tell me I’m handsome.
Also I saw your squat video and I really envy your depth.
Well, maybe they really think you’re handsome! Ever consider that?
I’m not sure you should envy my depth. That vid was of corrected depth. In other words, I naturally squat deeper than that. It’s a lot of wasted effort. Especially when competing. At my last meet, my coach said I was practically to the floor on my first attempt.

You’ve never gotten a good look at me, trust me they are being kind.
Somehow the battery waas dead on my video camera so dead vids will have to wait until after my deload. its just as well because I got way out over the bar somehow and my hips flew up way before anything else. It was a clusterfuck all the way round.

I have an appointment in six weeks with the Spine clinic about my back. however talking to some of the docs around here they are all pretty sure I have a mildly herniated disc. Since I have no way of knowing anything for certain I’m not doing any squats or deads for the rest of this week and there is a good chance I’m going to have to stop doing 5/3/1 so that I can avoid anything that stress by low back for a bit.
I’m not sure what i’m going to be doing while I wait for this thing to settle down, maybe I’ll try some body recomp. Whatever I do not being able to do anything that requires lumbar flexion is going to be troublesome.
In theory though this sort of thing sometimes heals pretty quickly.

If its a “mild” bulged disk, then it may be possible to work it back in. I wouldn’t be surprised if the kind of things you are doing, assuming good form, would help it move back.
I went through this ordeal with my wife.
Mine was a stretched spinal ligament. Took forever to heal up. Could move my L3 disk in and out pretty freely but the disk never slipped.

I’m so sorry to hear that. I certainly know how difficult it is to be sidelined. What kind of fix do you think is required?

Thanks, I suspect some rest and avoiding lumber stress will take care of it.

Honestly I’m betting that if I stop pulling or loading my low back for a couple of weeks that my back will be fine by the time I get to the appointment at the Spine clinic. Of course I’m not a doctor but it felt pretty good Wednesday before I DL’d and I think I let form slip on that last pull.
Injuries of any kind really suck. Wendler’s article this week is pretty timely on that issue, though. I trust you will find some work-arounds while you give your low back some rest.
