She new around the gym. She said she had “read” a lot about squatting.
Ah…so you did more than just observe!? Excellent work! lol

Well she was in the rack next to me and started out doing 65lbs. she mentioned that it felt really light to her friends and I suggested that she bump up the weight because her form was perfect. So she kept upping it. When she left she stopped by where I was doing leg presses and she said she did 135x10. I laughed and told her not to sandbag next time.
I’ve got to get chalk, my hands were slipping like hell on 425.
Hey Joe (love that song)…nice numbers. Just a few observations on the 425.
lock out your elbows before the pull and keep them locked…you’ll notice that your arms are flexing a bit which can set you up for a bicep strain or tear. It will also contribute to being “tight” so all the energy goes into the pull.
start the pull by taking the slack out of the bar before the pull…you have a bit of a jerk at the start. As you load up, think of it as having one foot on the gas and the other on the brake. Take out the slack, load up the torque converter, release the brake and rip it.
as the pull starts your hips are rising before your shoulders which is tough on the low back. Drive with the legs first. You see it a bit on the 315 as well. On the lower weights work on being picture perfect. Tough to be perfect on 1RMs.

What is the thinking behind the height of the rack pulls? I ask because I’m wondering whether I should try them.
From everything I can tell lower rack pulls have the most over all carry over to deadlifts. I’m still getting my foot placement down becase it isn’t exactly the same as DL’s from the floor.
Plus it will help with my freaking bicep issue, in which I can’t seem to keep my arm straight when I pull. It feels straight but some how its flexing.
I should also admit that I like to do rack pulls because it is an easy way to add back work into 5/3/1 because all pulls hit the back hard.
I’ve gotten a lot thicker in large part thanks to rack pulls. There is a pic of me in my first log at 155lbs right before I had surgery. I’m attaching a pic of me at 198lbs I took for comparison a few days ago. A lot of what muscle I’ve gained is thanks to pulls.

Joe you have changed so much since I first met you back in 2007. You have lost so much fat and refined your work out so well gaining muscle. You have done a great job

I think she was lying to impress you.

Its possible for certain but I can’t imagine why she’d want to impress me. I mean we just met.

Wow, Joe, looking very lean at 198. Great work. I wish I had your body comp. I’m hovering over 205 now, but looking a bit different!
Well in all honesty I’n carrying a fair bit of fat in my torso but I’m hoping I can keep putting on size until I hit 225-235 and then I’m going to try and get really lean.

Umm . . . maybe she likes you?
Oh no no no, maybe I wasn’t really clear. The person in question was in the 19-22 range. I’m literally old enough to be her dad.
