Deads

7x355 (+1 rep PR)
3x315
3x275

3x10x230

SLDL’s

5x10x140

Standing EZ Curls

5x13x90

I got about a block and a half away from the gym and it started pouring down rain. got there and dried off, since I didn’t get much sleep again last night I wasn’t really paying attention and left my wedding ring on while pulling and on the money set it cut me open. Stopped and took it off and finished the set. I’ve got to get my mind right.

Bad sleep really does a number on mood and attitude. But apparently it didn’t hurt your deadlifts any. Congrats on the PR.

Now I’m really hungry for burritos. How do you make them low carb?

I’d advise you to go watch meets. You can see how the different feds run the meets and judge the lifts. Then there will be no surprises, regardless of where you choose to compete.

I watched meets for more than a year before I even started seriously powerlifting. I would sit on the floor behind the head judge and found one at a USAPL meet whom I could pester with questions during breaks. He eventually dragged my ass to the gym to see what I could do (not much then!). He’s now my coach.

I like USAPL because of its stringent judging and drug testing.

Flat Out makes low carb wraps that make great burritos, several flavors too.

I’m going to see if there are any meets near by soon and go take a look.

Bench

3x175
3x200
6x225 (+1 rep PR)
3x200
3x175

3x10x190

T-bar Rows

10x150
10x155
10x160
10x165
10x170

V-bar Pulldowns

10x180
10x185
10x190
10x195
10x200

If I had a spotter today I could have gotten an extra rep on the money set but still I’m okay with the result.

Bench is looking strong. Good balance with push/pulling. Keep the shoulders healthy.

I’d rather be like you and own my lifts when I do compete.

Thanks Steve, I really, really want to avoid shoulder issues.

well my first meet may have gone a lot smoother without the bobbles caused by unfamiliarity with powerlifting meets. so go be a spectator and talk to people

If I ever compete at a meet, I will certainly go watch one first. Great idea.

Wave 2-Cycle 2-Week 2-Day 4

Squats

3x185
3x210
5x235
1x245
1x255
1x265
3x210
3x185

3x10x185

24" Bow Squats

10x185
10x195
10x205
10x215
10x225

I don’t think the box squats are helpipng so they are going to be replaced. I might finally use this spot to learn to front squat. I’m really not happy with my squats after the reset, today I was off balance on the money set and it cost me at least two reps.

Joe I’ve never tried box squats but I’ve had good luck from paused squats to the pins, easy to tell you’ve hit depth. If you don’t go too heavy I think they’d make a great assistance exercise, and I also need to try front squats again, it’s been too long.

I am not a box squatter either, but I am coming to the firm conclusion that front squats need to be a priority. They help with depth and mobility, expose form weaknesses, and complement back squats by working different muscles. But they are uncomfortable and they suck at first. Also, the amount of weight that you can’t move compared to back squats is humbling. My 2 cents is hit them hard and don’t look back.

Yeah jack thats my thinking too.

Sat: Rack Pulls

5x135
3x185
3x225
1x275
1x315
1x365
1x405
1x455*miss
3x365
3x315
5x275
5x225

So I’m thinking lifting 5 days a week is a little bit much, plus I need to up my conditioning/cardio work. What this means is that the Sat rack pulls might have to go. I might try to put higher rack pulls in the day before squats but that seems counter productive.

3x365

What’s your ultimate goal Joe, how long have you been lifting, I’m just curious because you incorporate alot of accessory work that seems to be aimed at weak spots. 5 days a week would kill me if I tried to do it.

I half ass lifted for a long time, then I an an inguinal hernia operation almost 2 years ago and got more serious about it. I had to not squat or DL for 6 months after the surgery so that wasn’t helpful.

My ultimate goal? To be a lot stronger and along the way I think I’d like to compete. That said though I also want to keep in good enough shape to keep playing football and doing my medievil combat sports along with keeping my bodfat somewhat in check. I"m around 16.7% bf and thats about as high as I ever want to get.

I got fat as I got older and so now when I gain weight most of it tends to just reinflate fat, so I have to gain weight slowly and take time periodically to drop fat.

So inconclusion it seems like I want it all, yeah I know good luck with that.
