From my perspective the whole thing is about hating to see my wife in pain and not being able do anything other than hold her and let her cry.
Sometimes that’s the thing they need the most.

So sorry to hear about your family’s loss, Joe.
My condolences.
Thanks guys, it’s just going to take her some time.

Joe, sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your wife. As has been said, some things you are never prepared for. I am glad that she has you to lean on.
Joe, I’m sorry for your family’s loss. I happen to know that losing your dad sucks whatever age you are, and cancer is the worst.
P.S. Did you begin back at Wave 1 when you reset your maxes?
P.P.S. Nice squats.
^^^ x3 Had to deal with cancer last year with my wife.

That really moved me.
I’m sorry for your loss.
Joe, I’m sorry for both you and your wife. I hope that time makes things a bit easier for her.

Thanks, I’m not 100% sure on the 5/3/1 nominclature so I though wave was teh number of times you’ve run 5/3/1 before you had to reset. Since I’m only reset once then this would be Wave 2. Of course I could be horibly wrong.
I want to thank everyone for their well wishes. My wife was very brave throughout the entire ordeal and I think the long illness prepared her for it to some degree.I’m back in Birmingham and will resume my regularly scheduled activities for the week. My wife is still in Huntsville this week wrapping some thing up.
Oh anyone in the Huntsville area theres a German restaurant called Hildegard’s that is fantastic. The Jaeger Schintzel was wonderful.
I also inherited several firearms as is customary here in the Deep South including a .357 with a 2" barrel. I’ve got to get out and test drive the thing at some point.
Moving furniture and boxes yesterday will have to take the place of the normal Rack Pulls.
I am considering both the USAPL and the SPF for competition. Any suggestions, ideas or comments?

I don’t know anything about SPF but USAPL is know as the strictest federation around. I had a choice of USAPL or NASA and while I have strong ties to NASA, they are not in the weight lifting arena. Something about the NASA federation just didn’t appeal. I heard it said that if you can lift in the USAPL you can lift anywhere. BUT I’ve also heard it said that the USAPL goes way overboard on their lifting rules.
I don’t think that helped you at all. OK how about this: go with the federation that has the most events in you immediate area. That way you always have a selection of dates to work around.
^^ I consider NASA as more fun but if I want to be serious USAPL.I view NASA as a warm up for USAPL meets.I guess Id go with SPF if you havent competed before because USAPL are hard asses when it comes to rules .
It sounds like I need to give the federation thing mroe thought.

I rushed through my first sets and it cost my a sixth rep on the money set which would have been a rep PR. I didn’t have my head screwed on straight the entire session and I barely scraped through. Sleep was f’ed up last night and have been eatting like crap for a few days. Hopefully I can get it squared away tomorrow for deads.
Go on powerliftingwatch.com and see what meets are local and the timing that works best for you. We don’t have a ton of federations here and the preponderance of meets are CPU which is the Canadian IPF similar to USAPL.
If you find one local, see if there is anyone you know (like from T-Nation) that will be there. Meets are best done with a coach or someone to help if possible. You may find someone from here to go with you. There always seems to be a few of us around. For instance, there are 3 of us (that I know of) at my next meet and this is Canada with 1/10th the population ![]()
you managed to pull one PR despite all those issues. good for you, but be safe. being spaced at the gym is when accidents occure. backing off a bit is not lazy, it’s plain common sense.
Sorry I’ve been MIA for a few days, Joe. Belated condolences on you and your wife’s loss.
If you decide to compete and it’s near enough I may be able to make a road trip. BTW, the ladies who started Hildegard’s use to run a cantina at Redstone Aresenal and then moved off Post. Good friends of my mother.

Thanks for the help guys, I might take you up on that offer hel if I ever do a meet up your way. I’m looking at a meet in Lower Alabama on Oct. 23, I figure since I’m going to probably eff up the first time anyway I might as well get it over with.
Now to figure out what the hell I’m doing.
Slept like crap again tonight, here’s hoping it doens’t foul up my DL’s.
Now for something completely different. Here’s dinner last night low carb burrito’s covered in more ground beef, cheese adn sour cream. I really can’t believe I ate it all.
What fed are you looking at? The only one I have done was USAPL and it was a well run meet.

I’m thinking of doing both SPF and USAPL, with SPF being first as people seem to think it would be good to get my feet wet before doing USAPL.
