Aren’t ya in the Army tubby?
Here’s a great alternative: where I used to live on the West Coast of Florida, there was a group of really hot women doing yoga every night before sunset on the beach. Not only would this be good for your flexibility, you’d get a much better chance to meet a few and you’d know they could get themselves into some really interesting positions. Best of all, the ratio of women to men is about 10-to-1. I’ll bet you could find one of these groups on the beach in your area. Just don’t eat burritos for lunch.

I just started using the treadmill (doing Joel Marion’s cheaters diet and he advised to do 3/4 20min sessions/week) and i’m 296lbs. I’ve got up to 1.5 miles in 20mins - which is poor in the grand scheme of fitness but not only will it get better i’ll continue to take my small victories over my fat boy nature :).
I do look ridiculous though…

I agree. I weigh only 150, and jogging on concrete pulverizes my leg bones. Run on grass.

Good call, there is grass right next to it, guess more absorbant.

Many treadmills lately have shock absorbers. That doesn’t stop me from sounding like dinosaurs are attacking if I ever run on one. I personally prefer either the elliptical or walking on an incline for cardio.
Real powerlifters know running is pointless…
… the ice cream truck has to stop eventually!

Agreed, I would just sign up for some group fitness class at the local college and hang out with all the coeds and their spandex doodads.

LOL - i broke one on Tuesday - it did sound like an animal dying (if i knew the face text for embarassed i’d use it ![]()
The elliptical gives me serious DOMS but hopefully the treadmill will improve as weight comes off.
combine the dog and rollerblade suggestions. Get a good sized dog and strap on some skate and let him pull you along the boardwalk. It’s great exercise for the dog and you can do it even on post squat days when your legs are too sore to stand on.

I tried the treadmill last night and NO pain, I only did 1 mile but it was EASY as hell.
If I try to run 1 mile on the road, it winds the shit out of me.
The puppy suggestion wont work, I dont like dogs and have a 9’ BOA that I let roam around my house- a puppy would be a snack, he normally eats rabbits and large rats.
I also just got new running shoes, 2 pairs, very comfortable, I cant believe that I paid $300 for 2 pair of sneakers, I normally wear Converse All Stars.
This is why I workout, scoring hotties and cranking in big fish.
I haven’t seen this posted elsehwere in the thread (I think) - Have you had your running analyzed?
It might sound lame, but you might be running in poor form and that’s what puts extra stress on your knees, as your joints are absorbing impact more than they should.
Too much heel-slam-toe is bad. This is why most running shoes are so padded, but it’s a bad form to re-enforce. Hence the NikeFree to make your shoed walking/running mimic your barefoot style.

Perfect advice, especially #3. When you’re a heavy, running is a LOT of mechanical work. You WILL get fatigued quickly, your mechanics will fall apart, and you’ll hurt.
I’m guessing you also haven’t run much if at all since you were a smaller person. Running mechanics do change when you gain weight, regardless of whether it’s pure muscle or pure flab. Make the appropriate stride changes. If you’re not sure how, check with a biomechanic.

Maybe I dont run correctly. I run a 4.8 40 and have never “learned to run” I will check on this, never actually came to mind, do I contact a University or what? who teaches you how to run?
Thanks for all the advice, hope one day I cn help you all.

I’m 5’8" @ 215lbs and I would NEVER run unless I was running away from my wife who is pestering me for some loving, again. Anyway, I’d have to agree with getting a bike for CV work. I cycle to work twice a week (eight miles each way) and to the gym, where it also serves as an excellent warmup! IIRC cycling also protects your knees, because the joint is moving but without being put under pressure and that increases lubrication of the knees?
