Today I was dling and upon lowering the weight on the last rep I felt a pop in my back akin to your knuckles cracking. The effect radiated towards the point where the glutes attach to the ‘tail-bone’ and resulted in some weakness more like a knot. I was unable to go ATG (but parallel!) on squats due to said weakness (and I also have a tendency to butt-tuck).
A) Is it fucking possible I fucking fucked up my fucking back through a fucking disc herniation? I am (fucking) not in (fucking) excruciating (fucking) pain
B) Or is it fucking possible that I didn’t fucking fuck up my fucking back and fucking instead, fucking pulled a fucking muscle? Or I fucking need to do some fucking myofascial fucking fucker FUCKING release.
Yes, those are both possibilities, and as much as we all like to diagnose injuries of the internet, it is impossible for anyone to give you a diagnosis without an examination.
Hopefully it is not serious. However, you really should get it checked out if you think it is. If the pain resides fairly quickly, odds are that it’s not that serious. But if it persists, or keeps you from doing normal activities, get it checked by someone knowledgable.

Ok it doesn’t hurt that much on day 2 just a knot in my tail bone. I posted this in beginner’s forum because I felt like such a n00b afterwards.

Fucking A…you probably fucking bulged a fucking disc. The fucking knot would be the fucking muscles tightening around the fucking disc to fucking give it some fucking more support. Stretch, and lay off a week or 2.

Lay off a week or two after you have no more pain or knots or anything. Ice the area. After a week, if there’s no pain, start doing some stretching. Stop lifting for now.
I have no idea if you damaged something or not. What is concerning is the “pop” and the radiating pain. You probably need to have it looked at, especially if it is still painful. You probably also need an x-ray to look for fracture, although MRI or CT may also be indicated. Good luck.

When I ruptured my disc at 22, I was bending down to tie my shoes…heard a pop, then radiating and increasing pain down the glute and hamstrings for 30 minutes and then leveled off at a 8.5 out of 10 on the pain scale.
His story sounds to me like he’s on the way if he does not take it easy. People don’t know how debilitating disc injuries are until you get one yourself. I would not wish it even on my worse enemy…it’s that bad.
Many people have had muscular strains and those heal…discs DO NOT repair themselves.
I really don’t know what the pop was a result of. It doesn’t hurt at all, so I am at a loss of where it came from. There is no more knot in the glute area and I am walking fine. I better be more careful though. I started picking up everything golfer style.

I also wish I had health insurance.
HOLY CRAP! This is more important than paying for food dude.
Yes sir it is. An MRI costs $10k uninsured. I SHIT YOU NOT. I get full health insurance on July 16 (I start my full time job now that I graduated college). I have to schedule a CAT scan and get some bloodwork done anyways (for a worse problem) so if this annoyance doesn’t go away I’ll get an MRI done at the same time.
As of now it feels like I strained the fuck out of the sacrum musculature- this is why every gym needs a reverse hyper. I can squat (barely) but def no deads or cleans. I will just have to take a week off and catch up on Moby Dick.

are you kidding? Siemens didnt give you health insurance???
anyway
get well soon
Not until I start full time in July. I am a contractor right now. Did you know its cheaper to die in the US than to get treatment. This country sucks sometimes.

oh wait i just read your last post… what numbers are you pulling nowday?
Squat - 290 (I still suck at this)
Bench- 270
Deadlift - 405 (I was pulling 360x3 when I did this)
Clean - 180 (I have to squat clean but it still looks ok)
I am supposed to get to at least a 335 squat , 465 dead, and 315 bench by July 16 but that looks hard now.

You might be smart to forget about any major goals and deadlines for a short while.
They really aren’t worth the risk…
My plan was to finish Bill Starr’s 5x5 (thats where those expected numbers came from) and them to stop conventional DLing altogether. It sounds ridiculous, but I would rather not have surgery. I was going to do clean pulls, high pulls, RDL , and some snatch grip DLs. As of today, that muscle strain is almost gone, so I might be able to squat tmrw. I feel really fat when I don’t lift.
