LOL, nice article.
Um… Who cares?
Great article.
What’s weird is that Rippetoe promotes this system, yet it contradicts some of the very same principles he promotes in SS and PP. In his SS protocol, the power clean is done on a different day than the DL, whereas it is often done after the DL during a CrossFit workout.
Also, in PP, he mentions how building maximal strength one of the best things you can do to increase performance at anything. CrossFit does not build maximal strength.
That is a pretty great article…
Crossfit always struck me as something for people who want to be mediocre at everything. It’s a housewives workout- will keep you in decent shape just to live.
But I doubt you’d find any elite athletes benefitting from doing that random garbage. You certainly won’t find anyone with a decent amount of size, with the exceptions of genetically gifted weirdos that fall through the door a gym and get huge.

Lol…Honesty Rocks!
I’m with CaLaw on this one. I really could not care any less than I do at the moment. Crossfit is not endangering my world in anyway nor is my gym charging me fee to be a crossfit affiliate so I don’t give a shit.
No one’s forcing you to do it. I’ve honestly never had any crossfit person tout their system to me as superior or the only way to workout.
It’s doing waaaaaay too much for me at once but fuck if thats what gets someone of their ass then don’t let me be the one to stop you. When you’re interested in fighting better then come talk to me… I’ll point you to some websites.
I know a lot of people who do crossfit or at least crossfit type workouts (even 2 people who run their own crossfit gyms)… as far as I can tell about crossfit…
** its better than nothing for the majority of people who’d end up on machines at any other gym.
** it’s not specific enough for athletes but SOME of the principles are pretty sound (i still don’t agree with kipping pullups no matter what) and fairly easy/intuitive to adapt to a “rounds” type circuit. Either way pretty decent GPP.
** It gives people GOALS and a defined focus to their workouts rather than just “i want to lose some weight, at some point in time.”
** the workouts are scalable so if you can DL 500lbs then 3 rounds of 225lb deadlifts probably wouldn’t be for you. Also if you need to do something without weight its pretty easy to replicate.
** For those athletes who aren’t competing in anything specific anymore “crossfit games” is a great way to stay in shape and still compete
** and there are some fucking hot girls that do it as well.
imo take what polquin says with a grain of salt. For instance the whole lawsuit with the one guy he was doing a workout designed for kids. It’s not “crossfits” fault that the guy didn’t consult a physician before realizing that his ass had NO BUSINESS WHATSOEVER doing any kind of training. Also fuck you, no one needs to TELL me that I need take a water break. The amount of exercise you need to undergo to have Rhabdo is navy seal like… and they weren’t even close to that shit.

compelling…
where the hell did you find those pics Xen?
There is something about girls with gorgeous asses doing overhead squats that I can’t come close to describing…
It’s like God’s divine hand sweeping over the planet and saying, “This is why you’re breathing.”
I have to agree who cares…
I’m 100% with Xen on this one.
As an amateur fighter, I’ve recently added Crossfit into my exercise routine twice per week. It’s actually done a LOT for me in terms of conditioning me for hard work for extended periods.
While I don’t follow their “WOD” program, the ones I do (Linda, Mary, Flithy Fifty) are very, very explosive and sound workouts that force you to work HARD in a lactic state which will help me in the ring when I’m trying to fight tired.
I use it to supplement my other workouts, and it’s been good to me, personally. Doesn’t mean it will be great for you, doesn’t mean it won’t.
Sweet baby Thor, If I am going to look like that then to Valhalla with it.
