Poliquin's Case Against CrossFit

I’m with CaLaw on this one. I really could not care any less than I do at the moment. Crossfit is not endangering my world in anyway nor is my gym charging me fee to be a crossfit affiliate so I don’t give a shit.

No one’s forcing you to do it. I’ve honestly never had any crossfit person tout their system to me as superior or the only way to workout.

It’s doing waaaaaay too much for me at once but fuck if thats what gets someone of their ass then don’t let me be the one to stop you. When you’re interested in fighting better then come talk to me… I’ll point you to some websites.

I know a lot of people who do crossfit or at least crossfit type workouts (even 2 people who run their own crossfit gyms)… as far as I can tell about crossfit…

** its better than nothing for the majority of people who’d end up on machines at any other gym.

** it’s not specific enough for athletes but SOME of the principles are pretty sound (i still don’t agree with kipping pullups no matter what) and fairly easy/intuitive to adapt to a “rounds” type circuit. Either way pretty decent GPP.

** It gives people GOALS and a defined focus to their workouts rather than just “i want to lose some weight, at some point in time.”

** the workouts are scalable so if you can DL 500lbs then 3 rounds of 225lb deadlifts probably wouldn’t be for you. Also if you need to do something without weight its pretty easy to replicate.

** For those athletes who aren’t competing in anything specific anymore “crossfit games” is a great way to stay in shape and still compete

** and there are some fucking hot girls that do it as well.

imo take what polquin says with a grain of salt. For instance the whole lawsuit with the one guy he was doing a workout designed for kids. It’s not “crossfits” fault that the guy didn’t consult a physician before realizing that his ass had NO BUSINESS WHATSOEVER doing any kind of training. Also fuck you, no one needs to TELL me that I need take a water break.

The amount of exercise you need to undergo to have Rhabdo is navy seal like… and they weren’t even close to that shit.
I agree 100%.

One more thing: everybody uses that “training to be mediocre in everything” argument, makes me wonder how many guys here are really great in what they do. Unless there is a lot of people here ripped at 230lbs or deadlifting 700lbs, i bet most of us are mediocre too. Most people will never be a world champion so let them do what they enjoy.

There are lots of thing i dont like in Crossfit as a program, and i dont like some absurd claims about its effectivenes too, but i dont understand why people feel the need for bash it just because they have different goals.

personally, i don’t care for Crossfit because it doesn’t seem to have a clear-cut goal. it almosts looks like a bunch of “smoker” routines…my issue is i don’t see how it’s progressive or working for a specific goal.

i know some people say it’s for overall conditioning, but that’s easy enough to do anyway, and it seems to me using a more set routine would make it much easier to track progress.

however, if it works for some people, and gets people interested in exercising, than by all means, have at it. it’s just not for me…

Where’s the article?

Try spending a month in a hospital, and a couple months sleeping on a couch recovering from surgery. Crossfit has a few ideas that ain’t a bad way to rebuild work capacity and strength.

Crossfit, one more tool in the box

PS
Nicole (the chick with “Nicole” written across her tits) has a video on crossfit of her doing 25 reps of overhead squats with 135lbs. Thats a bit more than being just healthy enough to get thru the day.

Great article.

What’s weird is that Rippetoe promotes this system, yet it contradicts some of the very same principles he promotes in SS and PP. In his SS protocol, the power clean is done on a different day than the DL, whereas it is often done after the DL during a CrossFit workout.
Also, in PP, he mentions how building maximal strength one of the best things you can do to increase performance at anything. CrossFit does not build maximal strength.
He still disagrees with much of what Crossfit does but he believes it is the only popular training method moving in the right direction.

Um… Who cares?
I assume that most of us are on this site because we have some interest in training and training methods…

I think what CA law means is who care’s what Poliquin’s saying…
Genius, revolutionary, but he’s not god or the final authority on fuck all.

anyway enough talk back to whats important

mm sexy.

remind me to sign my girl up for crossfit

crossfit: cause i’d hit that shit like sledgehammer tabata rounds

Crossfit: Overhead Squats make EVERYTHING tight wink

apart from the girls :open_mouth:
how many new gyms do you know that tell you to dead lift or squat heavy? or to do HIIT? have you ever tried Fran (front squat+push press, pull ups; 21-15-9)? it destroys you, both strength and condition wise. i don’t really do any crossfit, and i dislike the way WODs are written (set weights etc) but the base of crossfit is solid stuff.

how bout if i am a fat chubby 230lbs, and can deadlift “close” to 700lbs?

then you’re one of the big boy motherfuckers that train to move heavy shit and aren’t interested in “general fitness”.

deadlifting 21x to you is like discussing the use of lightsabers for the war in iraq…absurd.

So you really shouldn’t give a fuck about crossfit.

my only beef with crossfit is they call themselves crossfit ‘athletes’ when it’s really just a fitness thing. crossfit’s event is crossfit but i guess that’s just semantics.

Considering all these pictures I’m starting to think crossfit is the way to go. Just looking at crossfit is elevating my T.

T is a cute name for your dick, i call mine Mjolnir
