Just FYI:
The next two days (31st and 1st) will be off-days.
I’ll also be taking Alpha Male the next 5 days (on the 5/2 cycle).
Good night!

I’m a little confused about your workouts.
The amount of weight is so little… on dropout Bizzare’s Physique Clinic, coach CT said he had him on less workdays and his workouts seemed harder than yours. Can you really not do more weight? Have you tried getting really angry and pushing yourself more?
I’m in the middle of tweaking my workout and I was hoping that I could copy and paste your workouts, except you do such little weight… maybe I’m overtraining?

Don’t forget that:
Bizarre was bigger than USCTrojan so it’s natural that he would lift more weight.
Each program is individually designed. Thibs will have come up with a program for each person based on the way THEY respond best. So what works for one of them might not be the same for both… and it might not be the same for you either.
A “hard” workout depends on how much effort that person puts into it. YOU might not think his workout is hard, but as long as it is hard for USCTrojan, that is all that matters.
Put it this way: could you do Ronnie Coleman’s workout? Probably not. Does that mean that you aren’t training hard? No.
I think I might be using too much weight on the back work-out. I am getting arm work and no back contraction.
I don’t see how you have time to post in two threads, cook the food, eat it, sleep and work-out while going to school. I am feeling my age!
USCTrojan, you’ve gotta ask Coach Thib this question for me please?
Chad Waterbury rants and raves and praises High Frequency Training as the absolute GOD of hypertrophy training and that nothing beats it.
Does coach Thib believe this also and is gunna work up your frequency or what is his opinion on HFT compared to regular once a week frequency?
cheers
Thanks for asking about the night feedings. If I have to get up and pee, I’ll down 2 scoops of Metabolic Drive before I hit the sack. If I sleep through the night, then I’ll stick the extra protein in at lunch. Stay strong!

USCTrojan is definitely working hard enough, judging by the amount he is sore.
Cutting and pasting his workouts are a mistake. What CT has designed for him is not designed for you. If you are that much more advanced, perhaps you should think about trying CrewPierce’s workout.
If you DID cut and paste a workout, you don’t do the same weights - base your weights around the rep ranges given. How much weight can YOU do for that rep range.
I don’t believe you intended your post to come out as insulting, but I think point out that he uses “little weights” over and over is insulting.
They are not little weights, to him.

I was waiting for when a post like this would rear its ugly head.
I’ll be the first to admit I have the body of a pre-pubescent little boy. My pictures actually DO me justice, as I believe I’m even skinnier in person. My strength at this point in time pretty much mirrors my appearance. Despite my shitty ass cold that I’ve had for this week, I’m trying my best in the gym.
I know I’m probably lifting the lightest weight of all the people on this thread following the same workout. That’s fine by me. Like IBMS said in his response to your question, I’m doing the best I can, and going to failure on the “light” weight that I’m doing.
I actually don’t get your question.
bizarre had the same kind of workdays as I do, except different exercises. Even the construct of the workouts are similar to mine despite the different exercises (drops, partials, failure, etc).
So, how is his workouts harder than mine? If you’re doing the workouts prescribed to me by Coach Thibs using YOUR own weight to suit YOUR body and abilities, it should be EQUALLY as hard as you doing bizarre’s.
Finally, I don’t know what the problem is with you just copying and pasting the workouts prescribed to me by Coach Thibs so you can use them for your own. The weights I use don’t matter. That’s what “adjust” on the workout plans mean. You adjust it to YOU.

Damn Mithious! Is that you in your avatar? If so, I wish I could look something remotely close to that after this PC! I don’t think I could ever get a back like that though. . .[/quote]
Thanks for the complement. My back has always responded well to training. Every other body part is another story!

I hear you on the back workout. I think I did the same. I felt like the weight I was doing was light right away, and didn’t think about full contraction throughout the entire rep range, and used a lot of arms. I still have DOMS in the back from that workout, but still, I feel like I could’ve done better.
Believe me, updating both threads, food prep, eating, working out, and supplementation is H-A-R-D. Right now, its not too bad because my school is a mix of online/lecture. Come next month when I’ll have to go to campus 5 days a week. . .that’ll be another HUGE challenge to overcome. I’m not looking forward to it, but I’m already trying to plan for it.
I totally didn’t mean to insult you man, sorry. You can look at my own pictures and I’m not much bigger myself.
I think Mithious nailed it, however it about trying CrewPierce’s workout. I just see CP’s workout as being too hard, but maybe that’s what I need…
I’m just not seeing gains from machines/cables and dropped those. For the last 5 months I’ve gone all out on the DL and it helped me pack on another 10 lbs, but I’m not seeing the same growth anymore. That’s why I was looking for a new routine.
Again, didn’t mean to offend and I’m sure the workout is hard USCTrojan. Keep up the good work!
This is my first post to this thread and I just wanted to start by saying GREAT JOB to USCTrojan!
He is doing a fantastic job of posting as he progresses through the transformation.
I especially like the amount of detail he is providing along with his recaps - the additional insight is very helpful.
Keep up the great work!

Hey bro, no problem at all! Hell, insult away! Haha!
It just sounded like you were doing my workouts w/ my weights. That’s the last thing you want to do, especially if you’re stronger than me!
Good luck finding that right workout plan! If you’re an ecto, using bizarre’s or my program is pretty tough as long as you adjust it to the right weights and go to failure.
OK, I just read Coach Thibs comment on Ecto Training:
“Ecto variable: train at the most 3-4 days a week, which means taking at least 3 days off per week on non-consecutive days. Each individual session should last no longer than 60 minutes, preferably closer to 45. Each muscle group is to be trained once every 6-7 days.”
Here is a question that I have:
As an Ecto that has been doing cardio 4-5 days a week is it acceptable to continue to do cardio while adding the weight training as outlined with the recommended rest periods between weight lifting sessions. Or does the cardio interfere too much with the results?
I don’t really want to give up the cardio health that I’ve built up, but I do want to gain the muscle that my scrawny body has never eaten enough to gain. Is it ok to continue with cardio workouts?
ectos should keep cardio to a minimum… i do it once a week
Hey trojan… does Thib got you stretching before you workout or do light warmup reps or anything like that?
i hear that stretching before your workout decreases strength, and actually makes you more prone to injury because the muscle should be stretched only when its warm… so theres dynamic stretching where you stretch by doing the given excerrcise by doing light weight and high reps… then proceed to normal weight… then stretch after your workout is done.
Am I the only one surprised to see these workouts where every single set is taken not only to failure, but way beyond failure?!
I mean, almost every T-Nation author says it’s better to avoid muscle failure most of the time, not to mention other guys outside T-Nation like Pavel Tsatsoulin. Sometimes a more moderate author would say something like “it’s ok to do it, but only once in a while”. CNS this, CNS that…
And now this. I’m a little puzzled, but at the same time I remember my best gains came back in the days when I wasn’t so afraid to go to failure. What do you guys think? I’m sure looking forward to Thibaudeau’s article on bodybuilding for ectomorphs…
Mike84,
I believe he’s going to touch on that on his upcoming article as well. I believe he spoke a little about it on bizarre’s Physique Clinic, from what I remember.

Funny you ask this. This is what I forgot to ask him in my Physique Clinic! When I was saying I have more to ask but I forgot.
I bet part of the answer will lie in the recovery of the ‘fried’ CNS. I know my CNS is pretty sensitive; I definitely have lifting days that tax my body and I come home feeling like a burnt, useless match. A 20 min nap usually mitigates it but not by much.
That’s probably why Thibs says Ectos need so many more recovery days. We’ll see.
I’ll start taking Carnitine, Tyrosine, Taurine and BCAA every morning just to play around with how my body responds and what it responds to.
USC,
I feel your pain on the volume of food. I am slowly trying to up my appetite and it is such a challenge, and we are literally the EXACT same size and body composition. Good work and don’t give up! Happy New Year, buddy.
