hey USCTrojan619. I have a few questions.
How are you feeling about the 14 lbs you gained and that 4lbs is fat? --I’m asking b/c I had originally gained about 14 lbs by taking Muscle Milk but stopped, b/c I was gaining about 30% of it in fat. I switched protein powders and reduced my fat, so now I fluctuate 1-2% bodyfat and gain it as muscle, albeit slowly–so the fat % to my weight gain would be like ~10%?
–Do you feel you have lost mobility? How many inches did you gain in your waist?
Is Coach CT trying to get you to gain a lot of weight and then put you on a diet b/c it’s faster and visually shows better results? Hope you don’t take this as an insult, I’m just wondering how you feel. Thanks![/quote]
As I mentioned in the thread, USC is somewhat of a genetic blunder when it comes to building muscle. We selected him for that purpose as he represents the guys who will have the hardest time building a decent physique.
In his case if he is to gain a significant amount of muscle he will need to accept a slight fat gain, at least initially. But with the new diet the fat gain should now stop while his anabolic machinery is being revved up.
If you read my article ‘‘The truth about bulking’’ you KNOW that NOBODY is against pilling on fat to gain size more than I am. BUT in some instances it is a necessary evil.

I think this is why I keep failing at building. I would eat a ton and lift, then when I start to notice a lot of fat I mix in cardio. Then my muscles stop gaining. That usually results in failure when I stop noticing gains. Im just going to stick to this plan and understand I initially need this fat to gain.
I think it’s the same problem that big guys get but in reverse. Ectomorphs are used to being somewhat lean, and panic when that dissapears. I spent the last year chasing two rabbits. Fuck it, I can put on a little bit of fat.
I’ve got a suggestion for USC to help him keep track of his sets. Lately, I’ve been doing Waterbury’s 10X3 for fat loss and I kept losing track of which set I was on when I’d reach sets 6-8.
To remedy this, I took 10 playing cards from an old deck laying around, put a rubber band around them and threw them in my gym bag. I set them near my work station and after each set I flip a card over till they are all face up and I know I’ve done all the required sets…it frees up my mind for more important things like proper form. Give it a shot.

Damn, that’s a good idea. I think, for me, it was just the unfamiliarity with the new exercise program. I seems like you’re counting a lot higher than I am.
And the part I was getting “lost” at, there’s no rest in between reps, and both hands are always on the lat pulldown bar, so I wouldn’t be able to flip cards.
Its a damn good idea though that I’ll definitely remember for times when I can use it.
I can’t believe that all those items came up to such a small total price. Is this because you purchase them from the commissary? All that here at the local Stop-and-Shop would probably be over $150.

Yup, that would be it. The base commissary. One of the better perks. I should make more of a habit to go there. I never know just how much better they are until I do shop there, and look at the receipt afterward. Big difference!
I frequently visit this site, though dont post much… Ive been training on and off for the past few years, even going as far as buying ~ $400 worth of Biotest products and trying different methods like the 10x3, followed by a V-Diet.
Having said that, through different circumstances, mostly women, being young in college, and being deep in the bar scene, I became a skinny-fat guy again.
I’m a bit taller than you, 6’4", but I am skinny (195) with only my top couple abs barely showing, like in your first pic (no offense :P)
There arent many (read: ANY) transformations that I have personally seen that have inspired me more than yours. I really cant believe how much weight you’ve put on in such a short amount of time… When I bulked my first time it took me almost 2 months to get to 215, and you’ve done the equivilant in half the time.
Im poor as hell right now, but when I get the money, I plan on following in your footsteps. Im glad you’ve posted your diet and workout plans for me to read in the future.
Good luck and work hard as there are many people on this site taking their inspiration from what you are doing. Dont let us skinny guys down!
I hope all of this time and money pays off for you in the end.
I’ve been meaning to ask about this. Do you know if you are allowed to drink coffee or tea? I love coffee in the morning and after lunch but I understand it effects insulin.
The stupid question that I have to ask: What about wine or liquor? A glass of wine with dinner every once in a while or vodka and ice? I’ve read that alcohol puts a stop to muscle building while your body tries to deal with the poison.
BTW I love partials too. It feels damn good to squat and deadlift 400+ pounds, even if it is only the upper half! I can’t wait to get on the new diet! I’ve gained 10 pounds so far, 157-167.
I heated up some shrimp for dinner which cooked some of the water out of them, making them less than 200 grams. It should still haev the same nutritional value right? Maybe this is an excuse to eat more!
Lastly, does it matter if you go heavy on the spices? I like my fish with some cajun and old bay!
I have a question. I’m on the second week of the workout and I have a very bad lower back. The whole back day went well except for the Partial rack deadlift, which if you don’t recall looked like this:
B Partial rack deadlift Top half dead 3,2,1
3 sets 120 sec rest 2-0-1-0 tempo
Adjust: This is the top portion of the deadlift only (go heavy!) … start the bar on the safety pins, 1-2’’
above the knees
Is there any exercise I can do instead of the deadlift? Thanks for the help anyone!
