The definition of morbid obesity is a BMI of 40 or higher.
According to Novagreg:
“My initial weigh in was on that same scale, so I honestly believe I was probably about 270-275 during that, which also means that at one point I was over the 300 pound mark.”
At a height of 6’1" and a weight of 300 pounds (which he admits to having carried at one time) he would have a BMI of 39.6, which is basically the lower bound for morbid obesity.
I know that BMI isn’t the best of measurements, but it does define what qualifies as “morbid obesity”.

I hear what you’re saying, but considering the muscle he’s carrying, that would skew the #'s for the BMI, and peg him as morbidly obese when a good amount of his weight is muscle, something the BMI does not take into account whatsoever.

But I suppose in the strictest sense of the term…
Actually, no not even in the strictest terms, in simplest terms. The way that athletic populations are accounted for, in terms of BMI if they must be, is if they have a waist measurement of over 40 inches, which NovaGreg had, then it lends more credibility to BMI. Now, if Nova’s waist was a 32 and he weighed 300, then BMI wouldn’t mean a whole lot. Obviously, I’m not really a fan of BMI but Greg’s instance it does tell a story of a poor health status.

But i doubt it.
When or if I take pictures again? Maybe you should check my thread next time before you post a shithead response.
I’ve even finished the v-diet earlier this year exactly as laid out.
Therefore, I think I have the right and the experience to say that there is something absolutely wrong here. Sorry to the supporters, but he needs to find out if he has a medical problem, or needs to come clean.
It IS one or the other.
You have the right? Well I have the right to say that I’ll give you props for doing the V-Diet and making progress judging from your pics, but seriously, in all your posts on here, you’ve offered zero advice to me as someone who’s already been down this road, and basically just put yourself over as being better than me. Awesome, thanks for the support…
Greg, I went and looked the good pics from a couple of weeks ago and you can definitely see progress. Keep on keeping on. This morning, I finished up the first 4 weeks of the V-Diet. I’m 6’2" and I started with a crappy carb heavy diet at 224 and this morning I was 204. I’ve run the BF% numbers using the Army calc and it shows me having added 1 pound of LBM and the rest was a fat loss. Frankly, those calculations are pretty ballpark, so I just figure that I maintained LBM. So, it’s definitely possible to lose a good bit of fat.
I didn’t put myself as being better than. Why should I offer you advice when you have Shugart and CT who have both made similar transformations. My experience tells me that something is wrong if you have truly followed everything as laid out but are still where you are. I’m sorry, but thats the honest truth. I have been down the road so I know what will happen. Which is why I said, either you need to see a doctor, or there is something fishy.
I don’t fancy myself better than you, unless you are lying to T-Nation. Which barring a medical problem, I don’t see how it could not be the case. I’m sorry man, I’d love nothing more than you too prove me wrong.

Why should you offer advice? I used to think the whole concept of T-Nation was people coming together to help one another, learn from one another, etc. Clearly you’ve done what I’m doing now, but hey, you’re clearly not here to help.

I don’t even know if we can accurately judge his progress since the first couple sets of pictures he sent in were from a shit camera. Plus he didn’t do a complete set of pictures at the very start, I don’t think there was any quad/leg shots in the OP or for the first couple pages. He doesn’t LOOK much different to me, but I can’t really judge too well. He could be building muscle under a continually thinning layer of fat for all I know.
I offered my thoughts. I’m sorry if you don’t like them, again I hope you prove me wrong.
I’m all for you making progress, I just don’t see you making much progress. I could be wrong, but we’ll see won’t we.
Again, I really think you have all the help and support you need. I also have no doubt that you can take a little ribbing, and if I’m completely wrong and you are doing everything as laid out, it shouldn’t really matter what I say. Because at least YOU would know, and thats all that really matters. Theres my helpful advice: The sooner you forget about what other people say and think, the sooner your physique will become what you want.

It says “Physique Clinic discussion for novagreg” on the thread. I’m pretty sure he can discuss it without giving advice or support. Hell, at least he is doing a good job posting unlike somebody who is getting free supplements and coaching to do just that.

GetSwole, I’m with ya on this one. Your logic is correct: if he did everything that he was told and followed his diet regimen and workout plan properly (along with putting forth the necessary effort, but that’s a given, of course), we would’ve seen tremendous physical progress, much like the others. Either Greg is lying to the community or he has a serious medical condition. Neither are good things.
However, I do think that regardless of the past, we’ll be able to find out the truth here with Greg’s V-Diet. If he makes progress, then that would point to him lying in the past (which is what this whole debate is about), whereas an utter lack of progress would be evidence of either a medical condition or him continuing to lie/slack off.

Quoted for truth.
The v-diet isn’t magic. The body doesn’t magically burn fat from eating shakes instead of food. And, numerically, its not tremendously different from what you’ve been “doing” all along.

Very true. However, the V-Diet is designed to produce [positive] results when the necessary effort is put in. So, like we’ve already concluded, if no progress is made, there’s a problem, either physically or ethically.
